I put together a DIY Magnetic Stirrer
submitted over 10 years ago by fruit_saladfingers

stirring plz

Finally got around to putting this together. I grabbed this stir bar and I needed some magnets, and the rest I had. I was going to use cd jewel case for the platform but haven't found one.

I usually make 80% VG mixes so I have to warm it up before it will stir but when it gets going it keeps mixing even after the liquid cools. The next step is to find an old coffee maker with a non-metallic base to use as a heating element with this under it.

This is excellent. Coming from a chemistry background I def missed having a stirrer, but didn't want to shell out a bill for one. Thanks!

That's a great idea.

One of my buddies suggested a heatlamp instead of a heating element between the stirrer and the glass; not sure how well that'd work though.

As long as you don't heat the liquid up too much I guess it could work.

If you are looking for a heating element I'd recommend going with something like this. Wire it up and wrap it around the beaker.

I need to make one of these; way to be creative, my man. I never would have thought to try this.

Ha, I'm throwing them out by the truckload as I have been cleaning out my storage boxes.

Very cool! I have a bunch of old computer fans laying around so I would love to do this. Do you place the magnets with both poles facing the same way or opposite?

My boyfriend made mine with a computer fan and hard drive magnets and did an Instructable on how to do it

I did this a few weeks ago. Hooked it to an old usb cord. It's awesome but if you mix over 30mls for separate bottles make sure you like it mix for awhile
