I'm no lawyer and I'm dumb when it comes to reading legal jargon. What are the implications of all the legal crap going on for the DIY community? Will we still be able to buy nic and/or flavoring? Not really concerned with sourcing VG in the future.
VG/PG and flavorings are safe, no worries there.
Liquid nicotine will be our bottleneck. I'm not sure if the FDA regs actually contain provisions for limiting the sale of pure USP nicotine liquid (yet) but I don't think so based on what I've seen of them so far. However, it's likely only a matter of time before they turn their greedy eyes onto ruining things for us as well. It's basically inevitable, because once they wreck the e-liquid market, a gray market will crop up comprised of many small DIY producers making garage juice and selling it mostly online.
Then they'll publicize the menace of that, trot out a cute little kid who accidentally took a bath in it and fed it to her hamster at a misbegotten tea party playtime, and now she's horribly maimed and fuzzball is dead, as is the family dog who ate his corpse. This travesty clearly cannot be allowed to overtake our nation, so of course liquid nicotine will become a controlled substance once this misinformation campaign gets rolling in phase 2.

He welcomed the sweet embrace of death, after the hellacious torture of being captive plaything to a child's whimsical and torturous fancy. Don't expect mention of that in the news coverage though.
The tobacco industry is scared to death about the eJuice industry since they are losing out on a lot of money and there is no easy way to monopolize creating and selling eJuice like there is with cigarettes. I see this going one of two ways:
- Huge taxes on nicotine
- Banning sales of nicotine to people not "white listed"
Since they can't outlaw PG/VG/Flavoring they will create FUD campaigns stating "Think of the children" and all the other BS propaganda they use to limit our freedoms and help out their deep pocketed cronies.
I say screw it, let them throw me in jail for making my own juice. I'll blow vape in the officer's face before they hand cuff me just so he can smell how tasty my juice is.
It's going to mean a lot of new 30% flavor club newbs hitting here soon. Which is why I tried to slug people to read the sidebar.

Personally I'm glad for it -- voters have to get what they want, and they want to be taxed and restricted obviously. Nicotine will always be available from sources and flavorings for the food industry will always be available as well.

The FDA deeming regulations really accelerated my desire to get into DiY. All we need now is a Mr. Fusion that can extract nicotine from eggplant.

Something I worry about too, but I'm guessing if they decide to regulate concentrated nicotine, it might not happen in the first round. After all, those who are willing to DiY are not the bulk of the customer-hemorrhage for tobaccopharma and aren't harming "the children" with delicious flavors.
You should try living in Australia- we can't buy nicotine locally, have to sell "doublers" which are bottles of juice, half full, which need to be diluted with imported nicotine before vaping.

My question is, how can the suggest banning flavors because it appeals to children, when alcohol comes in a wide range of flavors, from 99 bananas to whipped cream.
For some reason, I'm not so sure we would have that much of a problem. Nicotine solutions are (from what I can gather) already FDA regulated (BigP uses them a lot in NRT).
Also, for those that have read Wizard Labs homepage;

So I think nicotine will always be available. Taxes on buying it may make it more expensive, though.

Yeah, this is what ruined RYO for me. I was rolling much better cigarettes than I could buy, then taxes on loose cigarette tobacco went from something like 50 cents a pound to $24 a pound overnight. And that put me back on the camel. This time, I'll be ready though. A frozen liter of 100mg nicotine will last a 3mg vaper a long time :)
Clearly you didn't notice that a lot of RYO is being sold as "loose pipe tobacco" ;) . I RYO'd for a few years, and even just a little over a year ago, a pound of tobacco was only about $25. The only difference was that, instead of saying "cigarette rolling tobacco" or something like that, it said "loose pipe tobacco" on the bag (although it clearly wasn't if you compared it to actual pipe tobacco.) Some of the companies got clever and figured out that work-around before the RYO taxes went into effect.
There are articles online which will explain how to extract nicotine from tobacco.
I wouldn't recommend taking them seriously unless you know what you're doing - they are a questionable - this one uses pondwater to test for nic concentration.
