I was making up a revision to one of my recipes and dozy me forgot to shake the nic base bottle. 100%VG appears to separate somewhat more than a PG base. This supposedly 6mg/ml is kicking my arse sideways! I now have a 6 pack of Coke sitting next to me at the desk as I try to shake off the cold white sweats...
Did you dump it or are you continuing to vape it?
I'm still going to vape it. I might make a very low nicotine version of the same recipe and mix the two together.
You sure its not like 30+ mg of nic? Or were you exaggerating how sick it made you? Maybe mix it with a no nic version
Oh no, I blasted through an RDA loaded up until the cotton was virtually dry, then realized that I didn't feel so good. Full on cold sweats and dizzy. Last time I managed that feeling I was still vaping 12mg and I foolishly put that in a dripper. I just slugged down a couple of Cokes and went for a dump. Much better.
I'll try this batch in a tank and see if it's a bit more bearable.
I prefer to stir my nicotine than shake it.
Shaking nicotine can actually put a lot more air into the solution and accelerate oxidation.
Good thinking. I'm going to make up about 4x the amount of what I made in 0mg and blend them all together. Even in a tank at just over double resistance it still hits me right between the eyes. Strange that there's no harshness or peppery flavors going on. It's just damn strong.
And if you've developed the habit of not shaking your nic base, and have half a vial left, test it with the nicotine test kit you shoud already have!!
I split my base into 30ml vials, and store the ones I'm not using in my 40 degree basement, all packed in a small amazon box to keep out the light.
Whether I forget to shake it or not, I periodically do the standard HCl and bromothymol blue titration test on a sample to check the potency.
If you don't have a kit, get a Pyrex graduated cylinder or beaker, a stir rod, the bromothymol blue, and 0.1C(?) Hydrochloric acid solution from wizard labs! It's less than $30 IIRC, and may save your ass!
I just bought 100ml of 50/50 11mg/ml base liquid to try out this DIY stuff.
Should I give it a good shake when it arrives?
You can if you want, but considering you could straight up drip 11mg/mL, I wouldn't worry too much.
It really becomes a concern when your base has more nicotine than any premade juice does, with the risks increasing with concentration.
In my case, I'm working with either 60mg/mL VG base, or 100mg/mL PG base, both of which are concentrated enough to be a fume risk as well. So if you're dealing with nasty doses of nicotine per milliliter (i.e. a drop probably contains 20mg) you really have to step up your safety and treat it like you would in a chem lab.
TL;DR: you're not at much risk with 11mg/mL, but you should be as safe as possible if you start using concentrates. Safety first!
I use 100%PG base and I don't know that I ever shake it before using it. I've never noticed a difference in strength or anything and I've gone through almost half of the 1 liter bottle (100mg strength). Is this something that is really only an issue with VG bases, or what?
No one else thinks this is stupid?
I think this comment you decided to post is stupid?
Good for you, but maybe "hey bros! I might be poisoning myself! For reals, yo!" Is also stupid?
