So, Long story short, I've been trying watermelon flavors since I started DIY, and found no one true watermelon to rule them all. I know /u/Botboy141 posted previously about blending Lorann and TFA- honestly I lost his suggested percentages. My latest effort is...getting close to what I wanted. I wanted to share it while asking for any input, or anyone else who is willing to share their own efforts if they've tried something similar.
I am going to try using this in a tigersblood recipe, and probably a few other sweeter strawberry candy mixes.
Thanks!
- 15% Cantaloupe (TPA)
- 15%LorAnn Watermelon
- 30% Watermelon (FA)
- 40% Watermelon (TFA)
Use as flavor base ~ 8 to 10% standalone. I'm considering next mix upping the cantaloupe and lowering the TFA watermelon 5 or 10%. edit - Forgot the flavor profile- Much more wattery- watermelon, closer to a natural non-candy flavor with a slight rind crisp.
If you want the rind taste with it I would try a touch of FA cucumber. It gives the perception of rind if you used in low percentages.
Yep! I do have FA cucumber.I tried adding it initially- but ended up replacing it with cantaloupe. I was counting on FA Watermelon and the cantaloupe to give it non-sweet flavor. I might try adding the cucumber in very small additions to certain recipes instead of this base flavor- I can totally see it working well with some recipes.
Have you tried capellas watermelon? Its very much a candy flavor but not so much as loranns. Tfa always reminded me of over chewed watermelon bubble gum.
Honestly, no I have not. I've been a bit put off by Capella blueberry and sweet mango. I have a ton of Capella flavors and only a handful see regular use, things like vanilla custard v2, sweet strawberry, and ocassionally tangerine. Harvest berry is another one, good standalone flavor but (just my opinion) miserable to try to blend with other stuff. Could you see it replacing the Lorann colorless watermelon in this blend? How would you incorporate it?
I think we have similar tastes from the sound of it. Honestly I use the capellas watermelon on its own a lot of the time. It is an improvement over other watermelon flavors similar to have good the sweet strawberry is to TPA and loranns strawberry. It seems to be a bit sweeter tasting with more body to it than TPA and less candy tasting than loranns.
My favorite mix with cap watermelon is mixing it with sweet strawberry and coconut for a tigers blood type of thing.
