Flavorah (FLV) Flavor Reviews by /u/botboy141
submitted over 10 years ago by Botboy141Gunner's Gold Gourmet E-Juice

So I've been meaning to get this up for awhile but have been pretty busy/lazy lately...

  • Vanilla Custard - 10/10 - Simply put, the most well rounded custard/vanilla custard flavor I have tried. I've gone through CAP, TFA, FA, FW, you name it, and every variation of this type of flavor they have released and nothing comes close to FLV. It's a slightly sweet vanilla with the true custard, ZERO chemical trace flavors to it. Adds the beautiful buttery custard notes we all love, without diacetyl. Definitely contains acetoin/acetyl propionyl, but no diacetyl. If you like Vanilla Custard in any way, shape or form, this is a must have flavor. Recommend using between 0.5% and 3% in a mix depending if you're just trying to add background notes or make it the prominent flavor, 4% standalone seemed about right to me (I tend to like my flavors a little weak though).

  • Pink Guava - 9.5/10 - I love this stuff. Sadly, I can't give it a 10/10 just because it's not really a guava flavor to me. It resembles a beautiful ripe grapefruit though with just a hint of sweetness behind it so that the sour edge doesn't knock you on your ass. Once again, an ultra clean flavor with no hints of chemical/alcohol. Recommend @ 4-5% standalone.

  • Creme De Menthe - 9/10 - I haven't tried too many other Creme de Menthe flavors as it's not my type of flavor profile but this stuff is dead on the money. It also doesn't burn like many other chocolate flavors I have tried. Worked excellent for me even @ .15 ohms, very clean/crisp flavor once again. 2% standalone was plenty for me, 0.5% nearly overpowered a citrus/custard/mint mix I've working on.

  • Banana - 7.5/10 - Don't really notice any difference between FLV's banana and TFA Ripe Banana. Same runts like smell and taste to it and very similar in terms of strength. Start @ 0.05% in a mix or 1-2% standalone and adjust as needed.

  • Blueberry Muffin - 7/10 - Pretty awesome for a pre-mix flavor concentrate, still off the mark from an ideal Blueberry Muffin vape that I've been working on for god knows how long. This will definitely play a major roll in my continued effort to perfect a blueberry muffin vape though. 5% standalone was plenty strong, predominately blueberry with hints of muffin likeness in the background. Could go as low as 3% standalone and probably get the same result.

  • Coconut - 10/10 - HOLY SHIT. Let me preface this by saying that I hate coconut vapes and I absolutely despise the use of TFA Coconut Extra/Coconut. I have tried FA Coconut and FW Coconut as well and was pretty dissapointed. Remember, I'm not a coconut fan here but this shit when used in a mix adds an absolutely amazing creaminess and background flavor (see some of the recipes below to get an idea).

  • Strawberry - 9/10 - Once again, this flavor really really works for me. Not great standalone but this will be replacing TFA Strawberry Ripe for me in most creamy mixes. This stuff is just dead on perfect, not candy like sweet, but just a perfect ripe strawberry. Once whiff of it and you'll understand. Don't recommend for standalone use however, could probably use 1/3rd or so of what you'd use of TFA Strawberry Ripe. A bit more jammy/jelly than other Strawberries I've tried.

  • Orange Citrus - 7/10 - A good old fashioned orange that almost adds a little tangerine like quality to it (per my tastebuds anyways). I'm not into orange much but this stuff is pretty good. 6% was about right for me standalone.

  • Green Apple - 2/10 - Maybe I just don't like green apple or something, but this thing sure misses the boat for me. I'd take FA Fuji Apple or TFA Green Apple in my mixes all day over this stuff, something about it is just off for me. I might just need to try going lower on the percentage, this stuff is insanely strong. I've only had the chance to try it @ 4% and it was just plain bad. Reserving the right to adjust my ranking once I try it a bit lower. .

  • Peach - 10/10 - Think TFA Juicy Peach but about 5x stronger. Once again like with the other fruity flavors for the most part, this stuff to me is just excellent, clean tasting, and wonderfully strong allowing me to mix even higher VG blends without worrying about the fact I'm using PG based flavors. Recommend 3% for standalone.

Well, that'll wind things down for right now, I still have about 12 more flavors to try that I received in my initial sample pack. Simply speaking, if you are looking to try out some more flavors, or just looking for that diamond in the rough of flavor companies, ignore the price tag and buy this stuff. It's worth every penny.

A few early stages of recipes that I've been playing with and enjoying. All are mixed between 90% VG and Max VG (usually with 2-3% distilled water to help with wicking):

Amazing Mish Mash

  • 1% FLV Banana
  • 3% FLV Pink Guava
  • 0.5% FLV Coconut
  • 0.5% FLV Vanilla Custard

Peachy Grapefruit

  • 4% FLV Pink Guava
  • 1% FLV Peach

Strawberry Blue

  • 3% FLV Strawberry
  • 1% FLV Blueberry Muffin
  • 1.5% FLV Vanilla Custard

How did you first learn about this company?

by Botboy141over 10 years ago

They reached out to us mods here about running some promos giveaways and were looking for permission to post a contest thread here. We allowed them to do a one time introduction of their company in the sub but requested all future stuff be posted to /r/ecigvendors and be cross posted here instead.

/u/kirkt and i were then offered sample packs to try em out. I was expecting 3-5 5ml bottles or something but instead received I think it was 21 flavors (15ml x 2)...so like 42 15ml bottles of 21 different flavors.

I've always been pretty vocal about the vendors I support, obv this is not a post as a mod, just as my personal opinion here. I support quality products and understand the challenge that FLV is facing bringing an old product to a new market.

I like what FLV is aiming to do: bring more clarity on what happens with flavor blends and vaping. I know their hands are tied in being able to be completely transparent, but the flavor industry has no IP laws protecting their recipes, so they have to generally remain opaque there.

Mother Murphy's is world renowned for making tobacco flavors, and I believe they've been supplying eliquid flavors since 2011. Their tobacco lab is considered top notch and their flavorist engineers are well respected in the flavoring community.

I believe they handle all of BLU's eliquid flavors, and since they took over the reviews on BLU flavoring have been pretty good.

Thanks for the detailed response. I was more curious about how to find new flavoring companies that are lesser known than anything else. I'd love to try some new flavorings. Will have to give these a try, thanks.

PAID PROMOTION>...........>>>>>>>> kidding

I like the fact that they only have a handful of flavors to concentrate on instead of just slapping labels on anything they can get their hands on. Although it would appear they need to concentrate on that green apple some more

Is there a reseller in Europe who sells this stuff? It sounds like something I should be buying! :D

EDIT: They don't accept payment from outside USA, so I doubt they ship out either :(

You should input their 21 flavors on your site now, before there are 50 variations :) Strike while the iron is hot!

Done ;) http://e-liquid-recipes.com/flavors?q=%28flv%29

That doesn't prevent duplicates/variations though :( Not yet at least!

If you want it, let me know and ill do it.

I live 59 minutes south to be exact from them, and will gladly send these out for you.

Received my first order today. Stuff is very, very good. Just PM me and let me know :)

Thanks man, I appreciate it! I'll get back to you! :)
I've contacted them - maybe I can work something out with them :)

They explained to me because their flavors are non-diluted, they're subject to higher shipping restrictions than TFA/CAP, and for them to ship you flavoring it costs like $100 for handling due to those restrictions. I'd definitely let /u/WickAndWire help you out.

They just opened so I doubt it. Shoot them an email and ask though, I'm sure they can do a one off order for ya somehow.

Cool, thanks /u/Botboy141 - I've sent them an email :) The flavors sound amazing, and super concentrated!

They did! And there is a discount code on ELR :)

Love the low flavor percentages -- they must really max out their PG's solubility to end up this potent.

Have you done any minimum floor tests for singular flavor percentages?

2 points

by Botboy141over 10 years ago

I started with most everything @ 1% except the green apple and increased in 1% increments. When mixing 90-95% VG I found most of their flavors were in the hot spot around the 4-5% mark. I'm still very early on in my experimentation with their flavors but am thoroughly pleased thus far.

by abdadaover 10 years ago

That's really awesome. Just bought some from them, always interested in finding more potent flavors. I don't mix PG flavors at all but I buy most of them to see what flavors are out there.

Thanks for posting. Received mine today so ill be giving everything a whirl tonight.....Do you stick to the 1g/1ml rule for distilled water as well?

2 points

by Botboy141over 10 years ago

Yeah and that is it's true specific gravity so it works out ;-)

1 points

by jahnbodahover 10 years ago

What is the 1g/1ml thing?

1 gram = 1ml ?

It's an easy way of sharing mixing by weight recipes for everyone to use. Otherwise you have to specify what weights you assume your flavors actually are.

You sold me on the Vanilla custard. I refuse to pay 29 dollars for a 4oz bottle from Capellas even though its my top flavor and im all out. Its not THAT good lol

EDIT: lol ok 6 for a 15ml and no larger size? Nevermind, fuck outta here

1 points

by returnityover 10 years agoArmchair Flavorist

Comes out to $2.50 for 15mL in a 7-pack with the free bonus 7-pack reddit+ code. You can ask them to substitute all of the flavors for VC lol.

1 points

by raskolnikov206over 10 years agoPâtissier

Hmm, interesting thats not nearly as bad as my ridiculous initial reaction made it seem like lol. Whats the reddit code? Oh its "reddit+" lol

1 points

by returnityover 10 years agoArmchair Flavorist

Yeah it comes out to $20 for 4oz of something that's 2-3X as strong as CAP lol. $35 gets you 14 15-mL bottles shipped with the reddit+ code. not counting freebies. They said they're intentionally trying to discourage single-flavor purchases and getting people to try a few, which is totally understandable. If you do buy just one from them on ebay they'll usually send a second bottle free so even then it's like $3/15mL.

Thanks a ton for doing this! I'm super happy to have more Flavorah info out there. I've been playing around with mine as well, will be posting a review thread hopefully this week.

Thanks for the reviews BB. I had read about them from others on the sub but i was still hesitant. I think ill grab the 7 pack and ask for all VC. About all i vape are custards and have always used VC V1 CAP, i love the stuff. Ive tried others but meh..

Looking forward to giving this stuff a try, custard, MMmmMM!

Thanks for the recipes as well!

I'm going to have to say man, I just ordered all of FLV's flavors, minus the tobacco and coffee flavors. Your reviews are pretty much spot on. The most interesting to me is the Pink Guava which right off the bat smells like a ripe pink grapefruit with sugar on it. I'm pretty excited to use the custard in one of my juices in my line. Capella was the best I had used, however still was not where I wanted it.

Just an fyi I bought their Vanilla custard off their ebay store and they sent me a free 15ml of blueberry muffin as well. Good people, digging their service thus far.

Interesting - They have a Blueberry listed in their gravity list - But no blueberry to buy... :)

Swagger jacking to post my shitty mini review of their vanilla custard. I don't think it's worth it's own post due to review quality.

A fellow random in a local vape shop and I start talking about diy and he asked if i've tried any of the flavorah stuff. I say nope and he passes me some vanilla custard (single flavor, only vaporah, unknown %age). the flavor is vanilla CUSTARD where i normally go for VANILLA custard. It's definitely a rich eggy homemade old fashioned pudding custard. If that's the note you're going for this is PERFECT! I've never tasted anything like it, especially as a single flavor mix.

Again, this is a shitty review, sampled over about 0.5ml of juice at an unknown percantage from a total stranger

Lol was it in a hobo atty on a sigelei box? If so it was vanilla custard at 6%, 80vg/20pg.

Kinda hoping it was, lol. I got called out on Facebook the other day. "You must be clinodev, then!"

I'm still working on getting through their line. So far it's been nice. I should be posting one soon when I have tried them all.

Thanks for your review.

kinda pricey, But I will give the strawberry a try. @ 1.0930 and $5.49/15ml it might work if it is really Highly Concentrated Flavoring for mixing at 2-5% solution vs the 10% plus I run with TFA Straw-ripe

by lirrupingover 10 years ago

Did you have any significant wait time (or use a particular steep/maturation method) for the Vanilla Custard? How about for the other flavors tested?

I got the 14 pack and haven't really started testing, but I did mix Tropical Punch at 3.5% two days ago in a VG & DW base. Right now it's tasting a bit weak, floral and with a slight tinge of bitterness/acidity in the background. I was expecting more of a super-sweet Hawaiian Punch thing, and this will never be that, but am hoping it will improve with time.

1 points

by Botboy141over 10 years ago

Most were excellent right out of the gate. The VC definitely benefits from some steep time but was solid immediately. I received the Hawaiian punch as well, but I started by mixing the best smelling ones and this wasn't one of em.

Thanks for posting this. I just got in their VC, strawberry, coconut, guava, peach, and creme de menthe. Can't wait to try them.
