Well, I saw this was requested in one of /u/abdada's Deeper DIY threads (thanks for letting me borrow the catchy name), but he didn't have much to offer thanks to the evils of academic paywalls. Luckily, I can help.
I threw some of my textbook resources up onto my google drive, so those of you who are interested can grab them and read up at will. I'd appreciate it if someone else could mirror them, so my drive doesn't get raped, and also in case I move them or take it down, there will be an alternative link available. If you're willing to do so, please post a link in your comments and I'll edit the OP with a mirror link and credit to you.
Edit: Added "The Flavor Bible" to the collection! (thanks /u/BooksofMagic)
Edit 2: Big deal! We just added Fenaroli's Handbook of Flavor Ingredients! Trust me, you want this one!
Here's the collection. I may add more later, but I wanted to get this up for you guys now.
Dropbox Mirror (Thanks /u/BooksofMagic!)
Torrent Magnet link (v2): magnet:?xt=urn:btih:OV7G6Z4EEZN3YICJRCOSF5Z4JGFCR6GV&dn=FlavorTextbooks.7z&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.coppersurfer.tk%3a6969&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.leechers-paradise.org%3a6969&tr=udp%3a%2f%2fopen.demonii.com%3a1337 (thanks /u/sli!)
Hell yeah! I'll take a peek when I find a desktop. awesome!
You contribute so much, I wanted to at least offer what I could to help.
I've setup a dropbox folder with these files
edit: Just added an epub doc - "The Flavor Bible" To view, pick a free reader app
edit2: Added "Fenaroli's Handbook of Flavor Ingredients"
I just added /u/abdada's Improving Fruit Flavors with Acidulant's PDF to my archive, so if you could add it to yours that'd be cool.
If you have anything else I can put up there, let me know /u/abdada?
Newbie Dropbox user question others may benefit from:
If you modify that dropbox archive does it reflect in my dropbox-saved archive?
edit: that is, I understand that if the files change dropbox will sync the changes but if you add a document to that dropbox folder, will I get it automagically? What happens if you delete a document?

Opened the magnet in my client to help seed but I'm not getting a connection w/ peer.
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!
Glad to be of service! You can thank me by sending some NN flavor concentrates my way! =P Really need to pick up some more Pachouli Vanilla & Blueberry Mojito, once you guys get your new nic batch in!
Seriously, though, like you guys I'm a major science geek. As a laboratory-trained neuroscientist, I'm very much into furthering the organic chemistry side of the art of flavoring and brining vaping to a higher position of legitimacy using the power of science. It ain't all about chucking tits, brah. This is legitimate research.
You and /u/abdada are a serious asset to us here :-) this is an extremely important field of progression we should be putting more time into it and we already have. Really glad to see you both push this information to the forefront of this subreddit!
Biochemist here, but my real passions lie in your field :-)
Let's get on the phone at some point this week if you have a moment! I would love to hear more about your research and what's going on on your end.
It is good for DIYers and consumers and even retail vendors.
- retail vendors will be capable of creating difficult to clone yet unique blends
- consumers will learn more about the chemicals they're inhaling and be able to understand better the realities of vape safety
- DIYers will be more able to discern flavor components and how they work synergistically or antagonistically
I have made ~20 deeper DIY concentrates already and ALL OF THEM are vapable. None are great, but I am blown away that I made them myself.
Thank you!!!
My pleasure. Thank you for the juice & LA Banana Cream -- I loved nearly all of the juices, and the free samples were awesome =). I'll write you a review this week for sure.
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed them!! Be sure to shoot me a link if you do :) You should help me work on a project I wanted to do. I want to release a vaping rabbit white rabbit clone recipe I'm working on to the DIY community. I have something that smells just like it, but the taste isn't there yet. Perhaps we could make it a DIY subreddit wide effort! It's one of my favorite vapes right now, and I know for certain it isn't PG Free.
Ooh you have "Food Flavor Technology" by Jackson and Linforth. This is one of my favorite books, and it's a newer edition, too.
The little tidbit early on about gamma-dodecalactone and gamma-declactone is how I've started on my PG-free yogurt flavor!
Thank you! 30% flavor club thanks you as well!
I tried a local's DIY yesterday. Bottle of roses. ~27% flavor. Can't believe he was vaping it. Now that his taste buds are shot for months he may as well join our 30% club.
Just added Fenaroli (thanks to an anonymous benefactor! now I have one of my own! =P)
Wow that one is a Bible. I bought my copy haha. Ouch.
Thank you!!!! Also curious how you got these?
Edit: I just opened up one of them and read for 30 seconds and have already learned so much...
> 1.3.1 Primary characters > Primary characters are essential to the recognition of the target food. They constitute the basic skeleton of the flavour. Good examples are ‘violet’ (-ionone) in raspberries and ‘clove’ (eugenol) in bananas. It is impossible to create a realistic flavour without some contribution from these notes.
And now you know why overflavoring juice can make it florally or soapy.
Many base notes are floral in higher PPM.
So maybe FA Honey and LA Honey aren't both honeysuckle flavored? Getting below 1 drop is gonna be a PITA....
I tweaked Milkstone v3 into my own Milkstone V4.2.0; then mixed that @ 5% with 4 drops from an FA Honey 10ml bottle into a 30ml finished product of my own Milk & Honey that actually tastes like, milk & honey. Should've done 3 drops, tho.
Next time I'll be diluting FA Honey to 10% and using 1% or so of that. I've read that if you go above 1% with the 10% dilution you can actually taste the sweetness of the honey.
I'm a neuroscience student; I have a lot of resources for e-textbooks & as a devoted reader and huge geek, I am also good at scouring the internet for this kind of stuff. If anyone finds anything else relevant, I'll be glad to add it to the archive.
You must be a neuro major cause all the juice you make tests my gag reflex.
Sorry. I'm a PTA student and we just finished neuro. I thought of this earlier today while eating lunch. It was one of those places with half dressed women and my waitress was.. not attractive. The original was a version for her. I had no one to tell it to though since no one would understand it.
I work in higher ed....I may have access to a bunch of pay sites. Lemme know if you want me to look for anything in particular
If you can get any PDF/other format downloads for flavoring articles, that would be amazing. Stuff we're looking for would be related to food flavoring, flavor molecule interaction, taste perception, and other similar topics. I'll host anything you can find here.
I'll check when I get back to my cpu. Do you know of which pay sites may be the best option?
I think the best bet would be using google scholar or one of your university's similar academic search tools to look by keywords, sort by most cited, and then access the paywalled PDF's through that framework? I'm sure /u/abdada could chime in with some paywalled publications he'd recommend in particular.
Hopefully this will get added to the collection /u/abdada is working on. There are some amazing things in this collection. I've had the pleasure of working with a pricy paper copy of Fenaroli through my alma mater's library recently, and the minimum flavor recommendations alone are priceless.
Yeah, I'm super-excited to be able to add Fenaroli's Handbook to the collection. Sure wish I could publicly thank my anonymous benefactor, but he/she knows they're appreciated.
Since the magnet link has no seeds, I made a new one and am superseeding it.

Another fantastic addition is The Flavor Thesaurus: A Compendium of Pairings, Recipes and Ideas for the Creative Cook.
It digs deep into the true notes that combine to achieve the flavors we're after.
