How can I get that lingering "sweet" taste after exhale?
submitted over 10 years ago by 1_4m_b1663r

In flavors like Jazzy Boba, there is a lingering "sweet" flavor after the exhale. You can actually lick you lips and taste the sugar. Does anyone have an idea of how this is done? I'm sorry in advance if this is a stupid question, I am only a few days into mixing and a Google search left me empty handed. Thanks!

Sucralose. It's in the mix I'm vaping now and it's doing just that.

What percentage do you usually add to your mix?

That stuff makes me feel like I'm vaping a diet soda by the end of the day. No thanks.

EDIT: autocorrect

Yeah artificial sweeteners like they use in diet soda is ten times worse than no sweetener at all.

What sweeteners have you tried? EM can offer a sweetness (but also can mute flavors if overused). Sucralose is popular, as is Reb-A (stevia leaf).

I have been playing with 1% EM on a bubble tea recipe I found online. I will try some sucralose tonight. Gonna have to order the Reb-A. Thanks!

Not all Reb-A is created equal -- some may be bitter from the stem.

Have a recommended stevia source? I see people using diluted EZsweetz but that makes me leery, and I rarely use sweetener besides a dash of EM anyways, but Reb-A interests me somewhat.

Obligatory recipe request for bubble tea liquid!

I found the recipe here: http://www.vapersforum.com/showthread.php?48503-bubble-boba-tea-recipe

I did not include the water in the preliminary mix I made. After a hot water bath I tested and it seems pretty good, although I am going to give it a good two weeks before I come back and make any tweaks. I'm looking for that light milk tea flavor with a sweet finish (like Jazzy Boba) that I can use as a base to experiment with different "front" flavors.

Sucralose for sure!

I use a mix of EM & Sucralose, at a 1:1 ratio, severely diluted down with my base, then only a drop or two per mix (so the total sweetener added is below 1%), can give a flavor a tiny sweetness kick, with a subtle lingering sweetness.

As others have said, go too much on the sucralose and you get a slight diet coke aftertaste (bleh), go too heavy with EM, and it can mute flavors and taste like burnt sugar, which is actually something you can work with if you want, and can be found in most cotton candy recipes.

I've found the sucralose/EM mix works well, although I do mine a bit differently. I usually won't go above 2%-3% max with sucralose, otherwise it tastes like artificial sweetener to me. Then I'll adjust the EM based on the other flavors I'm using, since some are sweeter than others (for instance if I'm using a decent amount of TFA Marshmallow, I'll back off the EM or sucralose, or nix one entirely, because Marshmallow is pretty sweet as it is.)

The idea of "layering" sweeteners (or sweet flavorings) seems to work a lot better than using just EM or just sucralose or whatever.

I've noticed that certain flavors have tendencies to leave that sweet aftertaste you're looking for. I don't like using sweeteners of any type and a fair amount of flavors have that sweet aftertaste.

It would probably be easier to use sweeteners to obtain the aftertaste you're looking for, but a lot of flavors, such as FE lemon, leave a sweet and tart aftertaste

Yep, that's definitely sucralose. I rarely use it at all myself because it's very overpowering and tends to have a nasty aftertaste to me personally. They only way I've been able to avoid the after taste is to mix it at about 1 drop per 10 ml. I mean 1 tiny drop from a 3ml dropper. If I go over that, especially after letting it sit then it's overbearing. It has a tendency to pop off the coil when vaping and hit the back of my throat. ewwww. But I guess some people like it.
