Hmm probably just needed to shake the 55 gallon drums some more.
The image in my head on reading this is from an old Simpsons episode where Selma or Patty sends an email - the camera follows the electrons through wires and pipes, then gets caught in a big box labelled Cisco Systems. A janitor hits it with a broom (er, mallet) and then the routing resumes. Framegrab
It seems like they went pretty far out of their way to avoiding to having to cop to this, considering they stopped sales at least 12 hours before posting that.
I hoped to buy out that batch to sell as a rare collectible, boooo
"abdaba Premium Reserve Nicotine"
Much like the finest whiskies and Castle Long Reserve, we pack 100L of pure L-Nicotine into a wooden barrel and let that shit sit in the basement for six months. The result is a piquant, zesty nicotine that is sure to keep your customers on their toes! You can rest easy knowing that your product is pure because every once in a while there's a rat in the barrel and you didn't get a rat, right?
That post is a week old and is for a batch that was not bottled or sold- I'm confused on what we're talking about?
Probably has more to do with the recent alleged discrepancies in nude nicotine's nicotine strength, but those were in lot A080 I believe.
OK, Figured That out- second (sarcastic this time) question- Do we hate nude nicotine now, is that a thing? Because it was cool to like them last week and down vote people who didn't - and I want to be on the right side of that karma train aparently.
It appears that nude nicotine was over confident about the quality and consistency of their 100% VG nic mixes. I think Jake kind of fucked up how he handled it initially. My understanding is that he is sending out replacement bottles for orders that may have been affected.
Honestly, with Nude Nicotine, it is up to Jake right now as to if he wins or loses. If he ends up dodging and redirecting he will get crucified. If he just stays silent, we will probably still be accepting but a little bit suspicious and they won't be our go-to good guy supplier any more. If Jake walks in, with a transparent assessment of what he thinks may have occurred, or what did in fact happen and then outlines what steps he is going to make to prevent this from occurring again, he will probably be back in most people's good graces.
They are not accepting orders and presumably won't have stock back until the 20th at the earliest. I didn't know that until yesterday and didn't find any previous posts on the subject, so figured it was worth sharing.
I think the best way for them to handle this is to
A) Give 2501 a reimbursement. He went to a lot of trouble to even prove himself wrong with multiple tests.
B) Maybe send everybody a cheap little test kit if they aren't too much? I mean shitballs, I would pay an extra $2 and probably not even use the thing. But hey, the internet is waiting for you to mess up because everyone thirsts for the moral high ground.
Quick jab!
The PR guy should put the bong down. Following up what seems to be a mistake by saying, "oh hey, look, we DO test this stuff and see, we are gonna throw it away, all these lost gallons, our profits, sacrificed for you," just seems to be a bit of cheesedickery.
I'm still buying from you guys!
I don't really have a horse in the race since I haven't purchased from them, but the way they have handled the issue leaves me less willing to consider a purchase than before. Now onto testing info:
Titration procedure and a titration plot for anyone who is interested. All you really need outside of normal DIY supplies is BTB and HCl:
Bromothymol blue, $18.30/100ml
Or go the "cheaper" route and get a pH test kit, $3.39/~10ml
Hydrochloric/muriatic acid, $24.10/5L of 0.1M after dilution - you'd be diluting by 10x though, if you wanted 0.1M out of the box you'll be spending quite a bit more ($21/500ml)
FWIW, 100ml of BTB and 5L of HCl is enough ph titration stuff to last you the rest of your life. Or a full year of a high volume juice business. That said, I'm all about buying in bulk.
so just as an FYI i placed an order last week and when it came in today it's labelled lot A085. Just emailed them with a link to this blog post asking what the heck? They gave a GC/MS sheet that shows it passed so maybe they re-used the lot number but that defeats the purpose of the lot system??
edit: titration shows it is correct in strength (100ml/mg, 31mg .01M sulfuric acid with 1ml nic for a total of ~100.5mg/ml). so I have that going at least, mixed it in and will see if its good after a few days
So here is my thing. Ive bought nic from MFS, Wizard, and NN now. All of it has been nasty really. I got a terrible peppery taste(that works well with tobacco flavorings) from MFS the Wizard and NN both tasted of shrimp(iodine). All of it was harsh and continues to be at 6mg. I had thought that its just the way it is. Ive been reading all of this for a the last couple weeks. Watching the videos and such but have i been missing out?
Should nic not taste like that??????? Should it be flavorless?
I dont have my paperwork from any of these vendors including NN. Should i have been keeping this stuff? The three bottles of NN I still have dont have any batch numbers on them. Im not trying to find a reason to hate on anyone. I would just like to know if i have been buying a shit product all along. Should nic not have a bad pepper/iodine taste?
They should have batch numbers on them unless you took them off. Look on the bottom of the bottle.
Nic should be flavorless.
Well ill have to look on the bottom. It is definitely not flavorless. It has a pretty terrible flavor.
According to the Nude product listing, their 100mg/ml should not have any taste.
> There is ABSOLUTELY NO taste
I have read many anecdotal reports from reddit/forums that pure nicotine in VG has a black pepper taste. However I can't find any scientific proof of this. I haven't really heard anything about a shrimp/iodine taste before.
If you're trying to vape the pure nicotine-in-PG-or-VG, I wouldn't expect it to be flavorless at all (or to taste good). My experience with nicotine from MBV and WL is that it does have a slight peppery taste. If you're saying that juice you mixed that should be 6mg/ml tastes harsh, then that may be multiple distinct issues.
What distinct issues?
Have you tried vaping just the nicotine base itself (at a safe concentration)? What is the PG/VG ratio of the juice? Can you share any of the recipes you have been using? Was your nicotine solvated in PG or VG?
The issues I am trying to rule out:
-
Ensure that the throat hit from the PG is not affecting your perception of the nicotine
-
Ensure that you have actually mixed 6mg/ml (both that the nicotine you received was at its labelled concentration and that the math worked out correctly in the mixing process)
-
Ensure that no other flavors could be contributing to the taste perception
I'm not trying to say that you did something wrong, but just that all of that stuff is worth triple-checking before being able to say it is definitely the nicotine solute that is adding a taste to finished juice.
Quick question, should I buy nude nicotine or order it from elsewhere? And if so, where?
Well, your choices, best I can tell from reading all these threads, and a ton of other sources are:
-
Buy oxidized nicotine with a peppery flavor and yellow color from a half different sources that people have been complaining about for a year or more;
-
Buy a liter or more at a time from a handful of relatively expensive sources that get good reports (someone jump in with links?);
-
Buy from NN, who had some trouble a while back, and didn't handle their customer service and communication very well, but had been the community favorite for quite some time, with weekly testimonials to quality and service. A week ago anyone suggesting anything else got downvoted to the bottom of the thread.
Here's /u/project_twenty5oh1 on the latest batch he recieved.
Thanks for the reply! I'm very aware of the recent unfortunate NN situation, which is why I was wondering if it'd be ok to get my nicotine from there. I'm currently using the nicotine from Heartland Vapes, but would gladly pay a little more to get it from NN if it is a better quality. Guess there's really only one way to find out though!
FWIW, I purchased from NN about a month or two ago after hearing really positive things on reddit.
My experience was quite negative. The order was charged immediately, but didn't ship the order for 2 weeks. This is in spite of the fact that the website claims order will be shipped out in 48 hours. I contacted them several time via email and even called them for a few days. No response at all. My order eventually arrived but I was completely put off by the customer service and lack thereof.
NN made no effort to communicate and I just can't feel good about giving my money to a company that treats a first time customer as such.
If I pm'd you my order number is there a way you can check my lot number? I was moving while I received your package and lost the paper work.
Look at the underside of the bottle. There is a little sticker with the lot number on it.
Props to /u/project_twenty5oh1 this might be his doing
Nothing to do with him. They still haven't said jack about his and others' issue, which was their fuckup. This is them refusing a new lot from their supplier, not accepting a good lot and then dispensing it incorrectly, which is what happened in the other scenario.
Actually, they finally admitted that there might have been a problem related to their dispensing process, just as you and I surmised:

Ah, finally some culpability! That took long enough. Good to see him accepting some responsibility and putting this situation to rest hopefully. Appreciate your efforts to be transparent and fair about handling all of this after you opened the can of worms, you went above and beyond for the community here, sir.
