Mixing flavors together isn't really chemistry.....
I'm sure OP only meant that it leads to chemistry in a sense that it made him more aware of its practice. The most important foundation for any chemist is knowing how to work with concentrations of reagents in terms of diluting and mixing. And if that leads to an interest in the actual scientific branch of chemistry, well I say good for him.
It was actually supposed to be a post highlighting what I thought to be some decent starter gear since I see the question asked a fair bit and maybe spark a discussion of what sort of gear other's used.
The title was just an attempt at a humorous reference to this quote linked by /u/vansprinkel below. I didnt realize how pedantic this sub was about chemistry.
It is exactly chemistry. It's mixing different chemicals to create a formula.
It's mixing premixed compounds. It's more akin to cooking.
I think it's a close analogy, but DIY is more finnicky. I can throw almost anything in my chili and it will be pretty tasty. (Within reason) but I find I am very picky about what juices I want to vape, which is why I got into DIY. Flavour interactions can be pretty complicated when mixing juice. Technically, still not chemistry I guess.
I have been puttering around mixing my own DYI juice using some Lorann's drams from local shops and random glassware around the house, but I decided I wanted to step up my game. This is batch #1 from my new setup.

Right, it's like how marijuana doesn't lead to other drugs, it leads to carpentry. I didn't quit smoking pot because I didn't like it, I quit because I didn't want to build anything. Kids are driving there bongs down FDR drive "Pull over man I wanna take another hit!".
I've never heard of someone getting into vaping without first being a smoker. I don't know why anyone would.
It was a (judging by the comments) poor attempt at humor.
I was a smoker, but I actually had quit for 2 years before starting vaping. No matter how long I was a non smoker I always had the urge to light up poking around in my head. It wasn't about the chemical need, it was about the habit. Vaping was better than falling off the wagon.
About half of my vaping friends were previous non-smokers, myself included. Agree or not, but it certainly is not as rare as you think.
Why would you start? It's not as bad as cigarettes, but still not good for you. Knowing what you know about nicotine, what made you pick it up?
I didn't use to smoke either. I use about 3mg/ml in my juice. But what I know about nicotine is that it is vastly less dangerous without the other chemicals from tobacco combustion and vastly less addictive too. The anti Parkinsons effect and the functional stimulant effect tipped the scales in its favour.
In my experience, it's the 27-28+ year olds that have smoked for a decade that quit via vaping, it's the 16-20 year olds that just pick up vaping with no previous habit of smoking because it's cool.
