Naturally extracted flavors. What else can be done?
submitted over 10 years ago by [deleted]

I know about tobacco, vanilla, coffee and spices. What else can be done? Even better question, how do flavor companies extract natural flavors?

Steam distillation works great for fruits and isn't too difficult to do with a distillation apparatus. I picked one up a few weeks ago. Wasted a lot of strawberries haha.

NF discusses some here: http://naturesflavors.com/organic-pineapple-flavor-oil

That's awesome. Thanks for sharing. I've heard that essential oils aren't ok to vape, what are your thoughts?

Lipids don't vaporize at 100C so from steam distillation I am OK with them. Cold pressed I avoid because there's a risk of lipids contaminating the concentrates.

What solvent do you dilute your essential oil into? Ethyl alcohol? PG? Also, what materials have you had success with? You said you wasted strawberries, does that mean you weren't sucessful?

Oils are terrible for you to vape, essential oils especially steam distilled ones do not have any lipids(oils/fats) in them and are GRAS.

The Vape Kitchen has done alcohol a few times. Their Irish Car Bomb is extracted from Guinness and, even though I don't care for Guinness, it's pretty amazing.
