I like a really strong menthol flavour and by strong I mean OMG! my lungs have just frozen. So I make my own by filling a 300ml glass dropper bottle with 1/2 Menthol Crystals and 1/2 Smirnoff triple distilled Vodka (for no reason other than I don't drink Vodka but got a load of free bottles from a supplier). Now no problems with that, it doesn't recrystallise.
So I make up my usual 1000ml of e-juice ( I use cloud 9's juice calculator) of
- 55.6 ml Base nicotine liquid (54mg strength)
- 591.08ml of VG
- 253.32ml of PG
- 100ml of my menthol concentrate (as above)
Which gives me a 70% VG 30% PG blend at a 3mg nicotine level
Now if I keep it in my plastic 1000ml bottle it's fine and there is no separation and not recrystallisation but if I transfer some of it to my glass 300ml bottle that I keep on my desk the crystals start to reform and then if I transfer some of it to my 30ml needle tip plastic bottle (for transport and taking around with me) again it starts to recrystallise again .
So what I can't understand is why not in the 1000ml but will do in the 300ml and 30ml bottles. It's not like the solution has a different ratio than it would be if in the bigger bottle.
The only thing I can think of is if there is a small amount of crystals left in one of the smaller bottles it's acting like a seed crystal or am I just pulling at straws with that theory?
needs to be 50/50 or it wont stay in state. i had the same problem with all the cinnamons i make. I know you dont want to hear this but theres no way cinnamon / menthol flavors are healthy. I told my boss for a long time i wouldnt make them but people were begging us for fire & ice. the fire and ice cracked a plastic tank so bad it looked like somebody snapped it in half. Twice. the first time i thought the new girl dropped it and was embarrassed, so i filled up another tank for a tester. 10mns later the new tank snapped in half like somebody took pliars to it. I use cinnamon red hot and extreme ice from FW btw. vaping vodka probably isnt healthy either but im no MD. just a humble juice maker with no links to back up my claims because nobody will fucking study ecigs in depth and without bias..
Tank cracker does not mean lung cracker
Truth. Triacetin will wreck plastics, but is fine to inhale.
NIH study -- inhalation safe for short term exposure, but I think the amount we're inhaling isn't too horrifying.
It's a nice flavor enhancer, too -- smooths out the highs and bumps up the lows.
Hi, thanks for your input but my point is that it is keeping in it's state of 70/30 but for for some reason not when it's transferred into smaller bottles. I have to admit i've been making my own DIY menthol for over a year now and it's never cracked any of my tanks before (but that's not to say it would never happen) and people have been using inhaling menthol from crystals in Saunas for years without any ill effects
Not a chemist or anything but: do you store the smaller vials/bottles in a warm place then move it to a cooler place? I remember in a class I took that you can make crystals by heating up a liquid that has dissolvable crystals and was stirred, the cooling and settling of the liquid allowed for crystals to form and grow.
You also may want to try to make a solution where there isn't too much crystals in it. They may dissolve in the vodka but it won't allow it to keep all the crystals properties in that form of solvent. You may want to try water because it is usually the best solvent for that kind of thing. I unfortunately don't know the best ratio for crystal:solvent though.
The big 1000ml bottle sits in the dark on a shelf in our pantry and the smaller bottles sit in a cubby hole on my bureau. Ive always read that the preferred way to dissolve crystals are (in the following order of best for the job. Ever clear (impossible to get in the UK), Vodka, PG
My question is more geared towards why does it stay perfect in a larger bottle but not in a smaller bottle. If it was reforming crystals in all sizes bottles I could work it out and tailor the strength and dilution but because it changes based on the bottle size that is the factor that is puzzling me
