Bombies Kiss the Ring clone
submitted over 10 years ago by Nickilas

I'm not sure if it's been posted here, but I've been working on a kiss the ring clone that I think tastes pretty spot on. A lot of what went into making this recipe is just from adding seemingly random flavors to it until I found something that seemed pretty stable, so I don't really have reasons for adding some of the ingredients. Here's the recipe:

Vanilla Custard V2 (CAP): 6%

Banana Cream (LorAnn): 4%

Black Cherry (TFA): 1%

Blueberry Wild (TFA): 1%

Yellow Cake (FW): 1%

On Bombies website, Kiss the Ring is described as, "A light vanilla custard featuring Nana Cream's base smashed with elements from Black Out City." Now, he says that it uses Nana Cream's base, so I know there has to be LorAnn banana cream in there. It has never been officially said, but I'm sure we all know that this flavor is is at the heart of Nana Cream due to its bright yellow color. That being said, after messing around with percentages, 4% seems to be a good balance. Bombies once said that he was making Kiss the Ring with a new custard flavor, and he was sent a beta of a companies new custard. Since then, Cappella has released vanilla custard V2, and I'm fairly certain this is what he uses. Because it is described as a vanilla custard flavor, it holds the highest percentage of flavor. The other flavors in this recipe are tricky. Bombies says he combines elements from black out city, but to me, it's just not there. I've tried adding different blueberries, raspberries, and even koolada, just because this is in the profile for kiss the ring. The first time I tried kiss the ring, I could have sworn there was a cherry flavor. It tastes like cherry cobbler to me. For my own personal taste, I added the black cherry flavor. The blueberry is added because of the supposed "black out city" elements. I have to say it adds a nice crisp berry flavor to the mix. Finally, we have the yellow cake. Why? I really don't know. I add cake flavors to most of my custards and I just felt more comfortable having some in there. While it's not a lot, I still think it adds something to the recipe, and lends it self to the vanilla custard V2.

Let me know what you guys think! Once I get more TFA dragon fruit, I'll be adding some of that. Dragon fruit might be part of the "nana cream base", so we'll see. Although nothing will triumph the real thing, this is pretty good for my tastes. If you like kiss the ring, you'll definitely like this recipe. Mix on!

Hey cool recipe man, thanks for the homage! Just a hint to save you some moolah: I don't use dragon fruit (or citric acid) in any of my flavors.

Hey man, I have made several purchases to mtbakervapor and every order I've asked for a drawing of some type. My first big order to you was not to long ago and without even asking I got a sweet drawing on my receipt! You are my numero uno vendor! A real nightmare is just outstanding, BTW. (I should add I never got a drawing or even a response back from mbv)

Haha, what an appropriate username!

Haunt me? No way! Replicating the nana cream flavor is what got me interested in researching flavor chemistry. That work improved every single recipe I've created and gave me the confidence to start my own line.

Flavoring is weird. With one of my soon-to-be-available flavors I've discovered three separate recipes that produce the same taste using completely different ingredients. Constant iteration and experimentation leads to unexpected, and thus interesting, discoveries. Being "wrong" about nana cream is irrelevant.

Now you need to revisit it and work hard for another 6 months performing your magical dark arts you initially did... Because your clone is delicious.

On the flip side, if /u/fizzmustard's recipe calls for dragon fruit, couldn't hurt to try it if you have some on your side. Very good work!

Yeah, I have a 120 ml bottle thats supposed to be here tomorrow. Ive made that recipe many times, and I thought it might be part of the nana cream base. Thanks for your help and contributions!

After fizzmustard posted his recipe, people began assuming that's what I used. I didn't mind at first -- both fizzmustard and jackster have great recipes -- until it became a problem after customers started calling me and accused me of lying to them because they were allergic to X, Y, Z and the the homage recipe called for X.

by ThirdWorldOrderover 10 years ago

They're not allergic. They're just trying to narrow in on your secret ingredients

And thus I feel bad :/

EDIT: Not that it will help, but I did just add a big disclaimer to the recipe thread (link).

Duh, everyone knows Nana Cream is 22% LA Chocolate, 52% Jizz, and Over 9000% cocaine. DUUUH.

Didn't you also use a Beta custard flavor for Kiss the Ring? Or at least a custard flavor from a small manufacturer. I vaguely remember reading something along those lines.

I addressed that in my post. :)

So I went ahead and made this earlier than I thought I would. After a quick shake and vape I can tell you that this flavor is at least 90% accurate. There seems to be a bit more of a cherry flavor to this than the original. Perhaps with a little steep, the cherry flavor will mellow out a bit, although it's still great with it! Btw, I've only tested this with a dripper and not an RTA so perhaps the flavors may vary.

Nice job! This will definitely be part of my vaping rotation now.

Thanks! I may try to mess with the percentage of cherry. Maybe .5% would be better, who knows. Give it some time, things mellow out over the course of a couple days. Im glad you enjoy it.

This is quite similar to what I've been playing around with. Try throwing some Cap Italian Lemon Sicily in there next time you're working with it.

I'm waiting on a flavoring order today, then I was gonna have a little mixing session. I will try this out, alas I don't have TFA Black Cherry, only FA. Subs shall be made!

Also, thanks for sharing :)

Ah you sly dog. I saw that your black out city clone has Cap lemon sicily in it. That totally makes sense now that I think about it. Gonna go back to the drawing board. Thanks for that!

This is what I lone about this sub. A redditor comes up with a clone of a flavor that he loves, and the creator comes on and gives advice about how to make it better. Awesome!

This is /u/awwsteve's recipe that I LOVE:

6% Vanilla Custard (V1) CAP (I don't mind the Diacetyl, you can use V2 of course)

4% Banana Cream LA

2% Dragon Fruit TFA

1% Blueberry Wild TFA

1% Custard FA

Like you, I have been tinkering and adding various Strawberry to it, like 3% TFA Strawberry, 1.5% TFA Strawberry Ripe or 4%, 2% respectively.

I will check yours out when I get some cherry in.

I am also a huge fan of FW Yellow Cake, care to share your favorite recipe with it?

3 points

by Nickilasover 10 years ago

Definitely experiment with some cherry. Im not sure if its the custard that he uses, but I personally taste cherry when I try it.

As for Yellow Cake, my all day vape has been that super controversial top secret recipe of Cereal Killa (/s). To me, it tastes nothing like the real cereal killa, but its a great cereal vape. Tastes exactly like a bowl of fruity pebbles, but not like cereal killa. Ive added some blueberry wild to that recipe too, and its pretty good. Here it is if you haven't seen it before:

Bergamot (FA): 1.5%

Cake (Yellow): (FW) 2%

Hazelnut (FW): 2%

Lemon (FE): 3%

Meringue (FA): 2%

Orange (FA): 1%

Sweet Tangerine (CAP): 1%

Blueberry Wild (TFA) 1%

All in all, yellow cake is one of those flavors that adds a little somthing to any recipe you make. Try adding it to a recipe that doesn't seem like it would ever call for it, youll be surprised.

1 points

by ClintMegaover 10 years ago

Good deal. I am gonna have to whip up another batch of this. My first attempt I confused Bergamot with Meringue (they have similar images on the label) and it went all to hell after that and I never took the time to increase the batch size to fix it.

And yeah, everyone (who doesn't DIY) is shelling out big bucks for all of these cereal juices and most of the recipes are pretty easy to find!

Speaking of that Cereal Killa clone recipe, I'm ordering ingredients for it again and can't seem to find FE Lemon anywhere at the moment. E-liquid Mart nor Ecigexpress has it in stock. Instead of posting a new thread asking, I thought I would ask here if anyone had source they could hook me up with? I have all but that one in cart, but it's the only one I am totally out of... go figure!

They both seem to be out of LA Banana Cream as well... any source on it would be most appreciated as well.

OP, the KTR clone recipe is very similar to one I was working on a while back. I was using Blueberry Extra though. I lost interest, but will have to revisit it with some TFA Black Cherry and FW Yellow Cake. Thanks for sharing.

I didn't have yellow cake so I mixed this up with banana nut bread from tfa as a substitute. Pretty good right after mixing! It has hints of KtR but it is pretty different.

You'd probably better off leaving out the banana nut bread

I kinda feel like TFA Black Cherry is medicine-y, I prefer TFA Cherry Extract out of all of TFA's Cherry flavors, if I had to pick. Still, this sounds tasty! Great work and thanks for sharing. I'll try it next time I order flavors.

1 points

by Nickilasover 10 years ago

The thing with black cherry is that it's SO strong. You're right, it tastes like cough syrup. At least for my taste, the fact that it's so strong lends it self well to be mixed in lower percentages. That 1% is more than enough to get a good cherry taste on your pallet. I'm gonna have to try that though, thanks!

It goes against the grain of the entire purpose of this sub. You should really look into doing it yourself it is way easier than people think.

Agreed, however, I've supplemented my DIY purchases by selling my own juice and clones. I hope, at least for the amateur DIYer, selling of clones to make what can be fairly expensive of a hobby more manageable.

Maybe one day I can get a homogenizer and go deeper down the rabbits hole.
