Hello! I am still fairly new to DIY juice making. Having a blast so far! I've made a few really good recipes and will continue trying more new ones.
My question is about the sweeteners. What is the difference between them all? As in the actual sweetener flavor (I've been using TFA), cotton candy and ethyl maltol. I see different recipes call for different ones.
I read the resources on the sidebar but didn't see an actual explanation of the difference between using these additives. Sorry if I missed it.
Thanks for your help!
Sweetener is sucralose. Ethyl Maltol essentially is TFA cotton candy flavoring, it's a 10% EM solution in PG. Marshmallow is another popular sweetening additive.
So does liquid Splenda = sucralose? Or does it have to be strictly sucralose.
Most brand name liquid sucralose is going to have preservatives that you don't want to vape. You need pure sucralose in pg.
I actually don't think there is any more evidence that the supercommon preservatives used in most sucralose liquids are any worse than all the other crap we vape as flavorings, but that said, if the OP is concerned about the huge price differential between sucralose from the various flavor companies we normally use and generally available liquid sucralose you can buy the bulk pure sucralose powder for almost nothing and mix it yourself.

Thanks for the help!
So is there a better sweetener that goes better with certain types of flavors? Like would the cotton candy go better with fruity flavors more so than the EM?
Sorry for all the question, just wanna make sure I have all the details so I don't mess things up.
No problem. Cotton candy (tfa) literally IS EM. There's no difference. It adds a sweet tasting, mellowing sort of mouthfeel to a mix without adding true sweetness. Sweetener (sucralose) is actually the addition of true sweetness to a recipe. Some people don't use this, like me, because it gunks coils. However if you drink tea or coffee, you can think of it in similar terms -- you know how when you add some sugar to tea or coffee it doesn't just get sweeter, you can actually taste more flavors? Similarly, sweetener is important because a lot of our flavors aren't inherently sweet despite the fact that the things they are flavored like (fruits and desserts) are sweet, so without sweetener or at least EM you will be missing something in your recipe.
Just my opinion/personal taste;
Sucralose goes better with desert and cereal recipes. It will gunk up your coils faster than Ethyl Maltol. It has a....burnt sugar/caramel-ish flavor when you add too much.
Ethyl Maltol mutes/removes some flavoring after it homogenizes with the other juice ingredients. I've found this hurts delicate sweet flavors like hibiscus/honeysuckle more than citrus flavors. Citric acid helps counter this a little, and sweet & sour mixes have come out better for me with Citric Acid and Ethyl Maltol as opposed to Malic Acid and Sucralose.
