If you could only use ten concentrates for the rest of your life, which flavors would they be?
submitted over 10 years ago by Billy_Germans

Any reasoning is valid, but I guess a general guideline might be... which ten flavors can be used to create the most diverse (and high quality) selection of flavor profiles?

Can ask how you're using your cap v2 custard? I've played with it tons and it still tastes off. Any hint on percentage, stuff to add, steep time? I've got like 110 mls of it

I like using it from 3-5%, it starts tasting funky higher than 8% in my experience. Definitely needs a bit of steep time to start really showing it's flavor. 1 week min, 2 week preferred

I'm still new at this. Been running single flavors mostly. I love tfa dragon fruit. Can you compare the tfa to the inw?

1 points

by BleuXShadoWover 10 years ago

They're fairly close to each other taste wise, the inawera is much more concentrated. I use the inw between 0.25-1.5%, while the tfa I usually use around 4-6%

What % do you use for eucalyptus? I have some on the way. Impulse buy.

by BleuXShadoWover 10 years ago

I like using it at 3%. It's by far my favorite menthol type of flavor.

it finally arrived today! gonna mix it at 3% as a stand alone in max VG.

thanks!

Can you give pointers on dragon fruit and kaktus? What % do you use for a standalone mix? Any good uses for the kaktus?

by BleuXShadoWover 10 years ago

Cactus goes really well with almost all fruits, it can really help some flavors pop. It also adds a nice aloe-ish mouth feel once you start adding it past a certain %, I'd say around 0.75%. Cactus i would say start at 1.25% for standalone and go from there, while dragonfruit start at 3% and go from there

Thanks! I'll give them a try.

Hey, I have almost all of those flavors! What are some good mixes with the exotic fruits? I have tried it with TFA champagne but it was a bit dry and seemed like it was lacking something. Also, any other recipes using those flavors would be much appreciated :)

What % were you using it at? I think it mixes well with almost any flavor, just a great all around flavoring imo. I've never been a fan of tfa's champagne, wine champagne (FA) has been a much better overall taste to me. I'm out working on the office right now , redditing between sessions, so no time to post recipes n such right now. Also I'm away from my recipe book :)

I mixed it at 3%, the champagne at 5% with 1%EM

I'm thinking about ordering the TFA RY4 double. I've seen some recipes that call for RY4 from TFA. If I were to use the double flavoring, would I only need half of the amount of flavoring that's called for? Or is the "double" version just a different kind of flavor at the same strength?

5 points

by V2BMover 10 years ago

I actually don't know. I just read/heard that it's the best RY4 and I love it and haven't tried others. I use .5% - 75% AP with it when I mix up a tobacco recipe for others.

I mostly use it in non-tobacco recipes, actually, at a lower %. I don't like strong tobaccos, so at 6% it's high enough for me. At 2-3% or so I use it to add depth to some mixes.

That "75%" is a typo right? Do you mean 0.75% or 7.5%?

Ry4 double is a different flavor from ry4. It isnt just stronger. Good stuff even as a stand alone flavor.

I'm not a huge fruit fan, so my list is quite bakery/cream/tobacco oriented.

  • FA Forest Fruit
  • TPA RY4 Asian
  • TPA Marshmallow
  • TPA Peanut Butter
  • CAP Vanilla Cupcake
  • FW Cinnamon Roll
  • INW Biscuit
  • FA Fresh Cream
  • TPA Dairy/Milk
  • TPA DK Base

Would that milk flavor be any good with a hint of honey?

1 points

by gordonavapesover 10 years ago

I haven't actually messed with any honey flavors. I've got some FA on the way. If the honey flavor was tasty I imagine a combination would be quite good.

by gordonavapesover 10 years ago

To follow up. Yes, yes. Hell's yes, hail Satan. TFA Dairy, FA Fresh Cream, FA Honey.

Start at very low percentages with FA Honey, like .15. Dairy I like at 5% and Fresh Cream .5%.

So due to a ordering snafu, I ended up with twice as much forest fruid as I intended. I like the smell of it, (in fact I know it smells exactly like something I like, but can't put my finger on it) but haven't really gotten into trying it with things.

How do you use it? Got a recipe with it in it?

1 points

by gordonavapesover 10 years ago

The main recipe I've got I'm working on for production. This mix I haven't done specifically with forest fruit, but it should be quite tasty.

  • 3% - Forest Fruit (FA)
  • 3% - Marshmallow (TPA)
  • 2% - Vanilla Swirl (TPA)
  • 1.5% - Bavarian Cream (TPA)
  • 0.5% - Fresh Cream (FA)
  • 0.5% - Bilberry (FA)

Should give you a tart berries and cream kind of deal. Could add about 4%-6% Blueberry Wild to sweet up the berry side a bit more. Works well in bakery recipes, and I could see it having utility in tea blends as well.

CAP:

TFA:

Bavarian Cream

Blueberry(wild)

All Medicine Flower:

  • Vanilla
  • Peanut
  • White Cherry (no cough syrup!)
  • Guava (omg x10)
  • Grapefruit
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Strawberry
  • Cinnamon
  • Raspberry
  • Walnut

Will set you back $250 for just 150mL of flavor but they are all winners and mix well together. Vaping White Cherry Peanut Cinnamon today and it is mesmerizing.

I really want my next foray into DIY brands to be Medicine Flower, but I'm a little anxious about jumping into completely unknown waters with a brand that comparatively little info exists for starting mixes and percentages. One of the reasons I was able to learn so much so fast last year in DIY was the vast amount of info on TFA (where I started) and CAP (phase 2) flavorings. Can you share some resources for basic MF recipes and percentages, or maybe at least some of your personal favorites? Many thanks!

I am actually putting a website up this week that will be based on 100% PG free recipes.

What I do with my Medicine Flower is I dilute the flavors into 9 parts VG, 1 part flavor. Then I take anyone's recipe and multiply their #s by 10.

Last night I mixed /u/loud_car's Nutty Nana recipe but did 9% diluted Dark Chocolate, 14.4% diluted Hazelnut, and 8% each Banana and Caramel.

The benefit of pre-diluting is that it also speeds up steep time a little bit, AND I can be much more accurate with percentages.

Plus I have a feeling the dilutions keep flavor longer than the pure flavor bottles.

I do sell 9:1 dilutions on my website, but it's only to cycle my Medicine Flower flavors so they don't sit around too long. I am considering doing group buys of dilutions in the future (that way, I can buy bigger bottles and share the savings with everyone).

please link or PM me your site? That seems like an ideal way to ease into MF, and I would be happy to support your contributions to the community and entrepreneurial mindset in the process. I also mix PG-free myself, and would like to move away from it in my flavorings as well.

How long do you think the shelf life is of the flavors without diluting them?

2 points

by greyskyeyesover 10 years ago
  • Black Licorice
  • Cinnamon
  • Caramel
  • Spearmint
  • Peppermint
  • Menthol
  • Grape

... actually I think I could get by on just that. Not for diversity's sake, just based on my own tastes.

CAP Vanilla Custard CAP NY Cheesecake TFA Strawberry Ripe CAP Marshmallow Ethyl Maltol (not really a flavor per se)

God I use these flavors a lot. I'm trying to nail recipes with these core ingredients and then I'll move on from there.

As far as others go, it's hard to say.

Really digging the peanut butter cup recipe so

TFA Peanut Butter TFA Double Chocolate clear TFA Coconut Extra is nice additive
