Looking for a sour patch kids recipe to work off.
submitted over 10 years ago by Tearik

Does anyone have anything that is kind of sour patch kids flavored? I'm thinking of doing a gummy bear recipe and adding some CA, but I'm not sure thats going to give me quite what I want.

Holy hell, sorry I have nothing to add to this but that would be amazing. Sour Patch Kids are my all time favorite.

I WILL get something made. If I just have to bumble around until it happens.

TFA makes gummy flavor and a sour flavor. Putting those 2 along with a few fruits or something may get you there. I don't do much sour as it makes my throat sore.

I might play with this as an idea. I know 2 flavor juices don't really work out that well. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction, I guess I'll just have to play with it more.

Well You could use something like

TFA Gummy

TFA Sour

Ethyl maltol for sweetness

TFA Rainbow drops.

Just trying to give a bit of inspiration and I don't own most of those flavors.

This right here is a great start. I've been perfecting my skittles type flavor, and having a couple family members try out each batch. A couple batches ended up tasting like sour patch kids with everything here. Only difference, Citric acid from Nude, and blending a couple brands flavoring together.

> Ethyl maltol for sweetness

This doesn't really sweeten... You're better off with something like liquid Stevia for sweetness.

holy hell,

I have the rainbow drops, gummy, sour and sucrolose if that would work.

If you guys can try and shoot some percentages I'll give it a try in the next few days and report back

Is it just me or does sour give juice a very off flavor? Even in small amounts to gives a rotten flavor to my juice, which grows with time.

No it does change the perception of flavors and depending on what flavors you use it could affect it differently.

Sour Patch Kids are basically sour Swedish Fish, If you find a Swedish Fish recipe (TFA makes a Swedish Fish flavoring), you can add Sour, and either Lime, Raspberry, Orange, or Lemon to make the different flavors. I think Gummy would definitely help. Let me know how it is please!

I'm hesitant to use a single extract for the base of my flavor (ie their swedish fish recipe) but i may very well work off a swedish fish base recipe. I'll post an update on reddit once I get something I like. I need to order some flavor.

I was curious what gummy candy tastes like by itself, have you tried it?

This was my idea!! Please share your results. I'm gonna try a green apple with sour and move on from there.

One of my friends put actual sour patch kids in his juice, I tried telling him that it was a bad idea and it wouldn't work but apparently I'm the stupid one

I've tried one a buddy made, if you add enough citric acid to have it be sour enough it makes your tongue raw like the real thing :( I was sad cuz I thought I could bypass the raw mouth with my favorite candy. That said it was pretty good. Was blue raspberry and cherry sour patch iirc

Citric acid is your best bet for the sour- or adding a citrus with the acid. Making a juice this sour will still do bad things to your tongue/teeth. Prove me wrong & I hope it tastes delicious! Ideas like this are where some of the best new recipes come from.

Nooooooo, I created a recipe and I thought it was going to be first, better go back to trying to replicating French fries and ketchup.

I'm not here to take the wind out of your sails, but I think it was /u/botboy141 that was dripping straight citric acid solution (the coating on warheads and sour patch kids) to try and find the sourest sour and came back saying that mimicing the sourness level isn't possible with that route.

It is also my understanding that the ph of a lot of those candies is extremely acidic (3 or 4 ph), and that is what your tongue is interpreting as that puckering sour. While I'm no sciencestician, I'm not sure I'd want to vape a liquid with a ph of 3.

See what you can come up with, but when researching the sourest sour for my own purposes, I could get "sourish" flavors, but not that pucker.

I'm really only wanting sourish, i've vaped sour liquids so i know that doable.

I don't think sour patch kids are really that sour, i just like them with the sour over swedish fish without the sour (they're literally the same candy I believe)

Yeah I did drip a straight 20% citric acid dillution, about the most I could easily dissolve in PG. It had a very very MINIMAL sour quality to it and stuck to my coils like nothing I've ever seen before.

Maybe someone else can figure it out but it aint me that's for sure.
