Need help with a Max PG Strawberry
submitted over 10 years ago by returnityArmchair Flavorist

Yeah, you read that right. I'm workshopping a flavor for my friend's wife, who enjoys a simple strawberry flavor (I'm told she vapes Hangsen most often). She's got a VG sensitivity, so I'm trying to make her a nice Strawberry liquid w/ Max PG but since I've never mixed less than 70% VG before, I thought I'd get some tips. Now, I've got TFA flavors galore, along with some CAP & FW (though I'm out of CAP Sweet Strawberry). I'm working from a basic starting point 50/50 blend of TFA Strawberry (Ripe) & Strawberry @ 12% combined, with 2% EM & a few drops of Lemon to give it a mild tartness.

I will definitely be looking to add citric acid (maybe 1 drop per mL max?) to the liquid when I start working on it again tomorrow to make the flavor pop and offset the high pH of PG, but I'd love to get you guys' advice on how to make this flavor really great for her. I want to keep it simply strawberry, but sub-threshold balancing flavors or recommendation on the amount of citric acid or other tips would be greatly appreciated.

If you have any Capella Raspberry (v1 or v2), try mixing in a small amount of that. I've noticed it can really help smooth out some fruit flavors and add a certain sweetness without the overpowering raspberry flavor.

And if not, I enjoy TFA's Raspberry (Sweet) at 1% in my strawberry juices as well.

I need to give that a shot. I've had the Raspberry (Sweet) for a while, but I just haven't cracked the bottle just yet.

I do it both ways, too... Add 1% of Strawberry (Ripe) to any juice that has raspberry as a primary note. Adds a nice lingering berry taste that isn't noticeably different from the main flavor.

My favorite is Strawberry recipe I've made so far, TFA Strawberry (Ripe) 9% TFA Watermelon Candy (3%) and some TFA Coconut (Extra) (2%) with a hint of (TFA) French Vanilla Creme (1%). However that recipe I only had 50% PG or lower. I'd try it with full PG, maybe lowering some of the flavorings if necessary? All from TFA

Thanks. How apparent were your additions? I imagine the coconut extra was very noticeable at 2% but I'm actually tempted to throw in like 1-2% of TFA watermelon for a juicy sweetness that would be under the threshold of noticeability. Thanks for sharing.

the coconut was noticeable but not overbearing (at least for my taste haha) The watermelon is needed (again in my opinion) for kind of rounding out the flavor. Still on the fence about the french vanilla creme, but it doesn't hurt the flavor.
