too much shaking?
submitted over 10 years ago by tttcat

So I've got my hands on a reciprocating saw and attached a bottle of my juice to the end of it so it shakes a million times per minute.

I found that the juice becomes sooo sooo cloudy. Good right? Now the wierd thing is the juice after settling seems to taste a bit muted, smells delicious though.

Anyone else try this and find the massive amount of shaking is bad for the juice?

I shake mine with a jig/clamp I connect to my sawzall. Shakes it about 3100 times per minute. I typically shake a bottle for about 20 seconds but I've never noticed any muting of the flavors this way.

Have you tried mixing a batch and shaking one bottle and not the other?

The cloud you're seeing are millions of tiny air bubbles. If you heat/warm the juice, they go away very quickly.

I shake my juice after bottling it. I put the bottles in my food dehydrator set to 140 degrees and let them heat for 4 hours.

I remove them and allow them to cool. Once they're cooled, I shake them again for another 20 seconds and then let them sit overnight. By morning they bubbles are gone and they're clear.

I got a little creative....bought the clamp at Walmart and attached it to an old blade.

Here's a picture Imgur

I like it!

I saw another guy had a professional looking setup with a lab-style clamp attached to a drill bit, that looked clean as hell. But this looks cheaper =)

I've had trouble warming shaking/rocking liquids too. The same has happen to my flavour, besides that it become apparently more greasy (as if it had too much PG). From what I've gathered, it's not literally about mixing the liquids, but introducing oxygen which should be done quickly, prolonging that process might be bad.

I shake the crap out of mine with a sawzall and they all turn out delicious no muting here at all.

Not sure if you're looking for alternatives, but here's mine.

I hear mine in a water bath until the VG is thinned. I then use a milk frother to mix it all.

Let cool, steep for a few days. Done.
