How to describe flavor notes correctly when asking for help
submitted over 10 years ago by 3tern1tyMixologist

I've helped a lot of people with a lot of different mixes. The most help people get is from when I ask the same question over and over to get them to describe the flavors more specifically. So here's a little guide on how to describe what you're looking for to someone who has no fucking clue what you want.

Tip 1. Be as specific as possible.

example: "I tried X Flavor from this B&M and it tasted kind of like mothers milk, but with stronger strawberry overtones and less eggy custard. It also had a distinct earthy note on the exhale"

Tip 2. If you've already attempted to clone it, give us your starting point and why it tasted wrong.

example: "I tried to clone it with Flavor1 at X% Flavor2 at X% Flavor3 at X% but for some reason I can't get the strawberry to stand out and haven't figured out what created that earthy note"

Tip 3. If you've never mixed a bottle of juice before in your life, start making recipes that people already think are good. That will help you at identifying and describing flavors that are more subtle. Only after you do that for a while are you going to be able to tackle cloning (unless you're some sort of fucking wizard with a magical nose).

tl;dr: go back to the top and read it. If you don't like it or disagree with me, then tell me.

I'm looking for a recipe for "xx super creamy fuck xx" if anyone has a recipe let me know!

Descriptions like that help nobody! Often times people request a clone, and give no explanation of the flavor profile. Unfortunately, this sub hasn't tried every liquid ever made. Lots of folks are happy to help, myself included. Vague descriptions do not help though.

Great advice - I actually started with Tip 3. It's fun for me to go to a local b&m, snag a flavor, and just recreate it for practice. It has helped IMMENSELY.

Wise words!

Oh, I am excited to say that I have a bottle of Zoochberry Cream standing on my shelf. I haven't tried it yet - but the smell. Holy shit. Cream all over the place man! I can't wait to vape it :D

Glad to hear. Let me know what you think. I haven't made it in ages because I ran out of whipped cream.

To expand on the first tip - please include every flavor you taste and how strong it is and when you taste. "It tastes like strawberry and peach and cream" isn't nearly as helpful as "lots of strawberry (like strawberry preserves), tiny hint of peach (more of a peach rings flavor than a real peach) on the exhale, bit of a custard taste as well but not too eggy."

There are so many different flavor manufacturers that all have their own strawberry, peach, etc. And they all taste a little different.
