So, I understand that this stuff is incredibly dangerous, and to wear gloves when handling. Is it still dangerous to get less than 1mL on your skin? Say someone mixed with gloves and long sleeves, and foolishly grabbed their gloves with bare hands? Does one little drop hurt you?
Does anybody have personal experience that they can share with handling this stuff?
I have a friend who says she once spilled a WHOLE bottle on her lap, but she lived, didn't get sick, etc.
Every time I mention this I get downvoted, and I understand, because its stupid; but when I make juice for my personal use, I do it with zero protection. I've gotten 100mg/mL on my skin, I just rinse it off quickly.
Obviously when I make juice for others it's in a sterile, safe environment.
But my point is if you're using caution like gloves and not getting it on you're skin, you'll be fine.
Exactly. I even put a drop on 100mg/ml on my tongue to see if it has any taste when I get a different brand. If you're not being really dumb then you're not going to have any issues. People think that you will explode if it so much as looks at you funny.
Haha absolutely. When I started vaping I used 24mg juice. People inhale 24mg/mL. I'm not sure of the actual numbers, but I know bioavailability of a substance being absorbed through your skin is way less than being absorbed by your lungs.
So you shouldn't really be scared of 100mg killing you or even making you super sick, just being naturally cautious is good enough, and wearing gloves is even better.
100 mg is toxic but it's not THAT toxic. Of course that really depends on your sensitivity to nicotine. Safety first. I see some distributors that sell 500 mg and I think I even saw one that sells higher than that. Those levels would definitely require some protective equipment and not just gloves. That being said, I own a vape shop, we mix with 100 mg/ml all the time. I get it on my skin frequently. No ill effects thus far.
As long as you wear gloves and don't put your face too close to an open container of nicotine you should be fine. Just take your gloves off carefully when you're done and dispose of them, then wash your hands and upper arms. Be sure not to wipe your eyes or anything until you've washed your hands well enough.
One of the first times I worked with 100mg/ml nicotine I had just received it from nudenicotine and was going to pour the liter I had of it into smaller amber glass bottles, I made the mistake of smelling it and got pretty lightheaded. Whatever you do, DON'T try and smell it lol. Now I work with the 100mg/ml nicotine 5 days a week, never had any other issues with it. Just be cautious and you should be just fine. I would not wear a regular long sleeve shirt when making juice just because you could get some lint in your juice/nicotine/etc. I also wear a lab coat and protective eye gear when mixing, which is recommended but not necessary. Most important thing is just to be cautious with this stuff. Getting a few drops on your skin won't kill you, but you should at least try not to get any on you.
Thanks for your response. I seriously appreciate it. I mixed some base earlier today at work (local vape shop). First time doing it alone. I know how dangerous it can be and get a total hard on for safety. I was wearing gloves, but some forums say you should wear a respirator with 100mg/ml nic. At the end I had the thought "what is any DID get on me?" Instant anxiety attack. I started looking up symptoms (always a big mistake in a paranoid state) and it turns out they are almost the same symptoms as for an anxiety attack. Great. Total downward spiral.
You probably won't notice anything if it gets a bit on your skin, if you inhale fumes, or even get it in your mouth. I always taste my nicotine when I buy a new brand and I've never had any ill or noticeable effects. It's always 100mg/ml too. People way overestimate the toxicity of 100mg/ml nicotine.
You'll get a buzz if you touch it. Really though, most important thing in my experience is air flow. Catch a solid whiff of it and it can make you dizzy and light headed. The nauseous kind of buzz.
I've never heard of this happening. I taste drops of 100mg/ml on my tongue and I get no effects. I smell it straight from the bottle and nothing happens. People think that its a lot more dangerous than it actually is.
Well thats fucked up. A drop i didnt notice left a red mark on the back of my hand.
Common sense prevails. Yes, the stuff can kill you if you swallow enough of it or get enough on your skin and don't wash it off promptly and even a tiny bit can end a small child or a pet so 100mg nic needs to be treated with respect, but you don't have to be afraid of it.
Protect skin and eyes, work in a ventilated area and practice some spill control and you'll be just fine. If you get any on you, wash it off promptly and you'll be fine.
I try to be as careful as I can with it. I do wear nitrile gloves when mixing but only really to be hygienic. A drop or two on me and I go rinse the area with water from the sink not 10 feet away. I would be more concerned about getting it in my eye. Wear glasses if you don't have them already! I would say I'm most careful when transferring from my large bottles from the freezer to my smaller working bottles at the mixing station. Only then because a spill would be a larger one.
Still, I have yet to have a spill. I also have bought a brand new commercial sized baking sheet that I mix on, which is not something I see a lot of other peoples home set ups using. It's a good idea to have one. Any spills are immediately contained on the sheet and isnt going to spread or spill onto the floor or your LAP!

Pretty much all you need to know.
At a very minimum, you need to spill 5+ ml on your skin and let it absorb to be in any real danger. Use caution while mixing and if you spill, simply rinse it off quickly and you should be fine. Don't inhale it if you can avoid it.
Basically here's what I do.
When mixing for myself, (remember I mix everything by weight out of dropper bottles) I take no pre-cautions, no gloves no nothing, I mix directly into 30ml or 120ml bottles dripping straight from the 4oz bottle of 100mg/ml nic.
When mixing for others, I wash hands first and wear sterile nitrile gloves.
When pouring from 1-4L size bottles into smaller bottles for storage I ALWAYS wear a mask and gloves and I pour over a sink, not a flat surface.
Use basic precautions and you should be fine, I'll also add, that mixing while standing is inherently safer than mixing while sitting as well. If you are sitting and you spill a ton, it can run off our mixing surface onto your leg, if you are mixing while standing, you simply back away and it's on the floor to be cleaned up.
