Opium flavor?
submitted over 10 years ago by tournantMixologist

If any of you have had the chance to smoke real opium, you know what I'm talking about. It's a lovely deep floral flavor. Any ideas on how one might approximate it? My first guess would be to gather and blend some floral flavors, add some dark bacco, maybe some oak? Anyone?

Tasty Puff makes an Opium flavor. It's fairly floral/perfumey.

Yup, got some, but never had the real deal so can't say how accurate it is.

More importantly how good is it?

Ahhh to be honest I don't think much of it. It's a kind of woody-spicy floral thing going on - not really the sort of flavour I go for so I can't make a fair call. I could see others being into it though.

On the upside the stuff isn't too expensive and Tasty Puff's flavouring seem to be used at pretty low percentages.

Opium is often cut with various other plant saps, so the flavor you've tasted might be that, too.

Excellent point. Didn't know that but it makes complete sense. Care to drop any more opium knowledge you may have?

Not really. Not my thing, but I've spent time in countries where people smoke it ack ack style in the village cafes. I know the scents pretty well.

I'd suggest hitting MedicineFlower.com and browsing their essential oils. You might be able to build a pine sap flavor.

They have chamomile, cedar leaf and some other rare extracts. 1 drop of flavor per 3mL of base should get you there.

Thanks for the advice, I'll look into it. Been curious about Medicine Flower already, now I have a goal!

Dude try Tom Klarks opium you'll love it.. Buy it in 18 MG if you use salt liquid or 6 if you don't boiieeeyyyy.. The best part is you can buy just a little for like 7 bucks to try it. No loss there. I've smoked opium I love everything about it but I don't do it anymore I just vape that flavor and stay clean. I suggest doing that as well you'll be gravy kieed. No offense to these other people's comments but they don't know what they're talking about they're literally just throwing ideas out there I hate that about riddet. Either hit the nail on the head or shut up...

Opium doesn't really have a sweet, floral, perfumey aroma like you might think. It's more of a nutty burnt sesame oil flavor/smell, or that's the best I can describe it. Good luck finding a flavor labeled opium that tastes like that!

The opium I've smoked has always had a floral quality, maybe because of what /u/abdada said.

That's because most opium in the United States isn't opium, it's crappy incense stuff being sold as opium. They sell it at head shops and crap and then people buy it and sell it on the streets as opium. People also sell black tar heroin as opium on the west coast but that wouldn't have a floral aroma either, that would actually taste more like real opium.

I don't know about opium or poppy seed flavors but Inawera has a pretty good sesame flavour
