Help me use up some of my 4 oz: TFA: Coconut Extra
submitted over 10 years ago by bmilcs

Hey folks,

Recently got an order of a few 4 oz bottles and saw Coconut Extra being used a lot in recipes so said what the heck. It's cheap.

I know it's super strong and used at %'s lower than 2%... etc.

What are some basic flavors that blend well with it, where the coconut flavor truly shines? I know it's not a standalone by any means.

I have a LOT of fruit and dessert flavors... all capella and tfa. All suggestions welcome!

OH and 4 oz Dulce de Leche. Bad idea but it was cheap :X. Aside from Grant's - 7-15% / 2% DLD.

I have CAP Coconut, but here's my favorite Pear/Coconut combo:

  • 5% Pear (FA)
  • 5% Vienna Cream (FA)
  • 3% Coconut (CAP)
  • 3% Sweet Strawberry (CAP)
  • 2% Fresh Cream (FA)
  • 2% Marshmallow (FA)
  • 1% French Vanilla v2 (CAP)

Sweet baby Jesus that sounds good. I'll have to test this once I get pear in.

It's a great flavor that adds a good density/mouthfeel to juice. I don't understand this concept of owning too much coconut extra.

Honestly, since I've started DIYing, I've done nearly all dessert mixes. Heavy creams and custards. I'd like to start making some fresh fruits with light creaminess to them.

How do you brighten fruits to make them pop? IE TFA Strawberry Ripe - my only 4 oz fruit flavoring

Citric acid is what you're looking for

It seems to make everything taste like pineapple. Am I probably using to much?

It might be too much citrus for your tastes. You can also lower the amount of citrus you use and work keep adding drops until you find your preference. Another thing you might wanna try is adding a few drops of FA Pear (like one drop per 10ml).

On a side note, one of my favorite Strawberry (Ripe) recipes I got somewhere here on reddit DIY:

  • Bavarian Cream (TPA) 3%
  • Blueberry Wild (TPA) 8%
  • French Vanilla (CAP) 4%
  • Strawberry (Ripe) (TPA) 6%
  • Sweet Cream (TPA) 2%

I'm sure you could just leave out Blueberry (Wild) if you don't have it and this recipe would still be good. To add a little more zest to this I usually add a couple drops of FA Pear and/or 20-30 drops Citric Acid (30ml bottle)

What kind of Citric Acid should I order? What brand / source?

Mixes great with most other fruits, I use a tiny bit in a ton of my flavors, it can kinda brighten fruits in tiny amounts

Goes great with creams too

Look up Milkstone V2. One of my favorite "flavorings", and it uses a good bit of coconut extra.

6 months in though, and I've barely used 15ml of it

Fruits: Strawberry, Watermelon(non-candy), Dragonfruit, Pear, Pineapple, Citrus/Orange/Lime, Honeysuckle, Guava, Jackfruit. Creams: Sweet cream, Fresh Cream, Whipped Cream, Bavarian Cream, Vienna Cream, orange cream, and strawberry cream. It might work with something like Catalan cream too-but I haven't tried this specifically.

I've noticed that coconut in general just adds a nice creaminess to almost any juice. Use a few drops here n there...... Sweet and fruity juices mostly... but I imagine it could be used in tobacco blends too.

I like it mixed with peach and bavarian creme

I've had some in my kit from way back before they started labeling batch numbers in the bottle and didn't know what to do with it. I found a recipe for a clone of Seduce Juice's Snake Oil (which I've never even had to compare against) in one of the clone threads and made it three days ago. It uses 1.5% Coconut Extra. Just pulled it out of the heat steep today and it's absolutely worth making if you have the other two ingredients (TFA Pear and TFA Bavarian Cream, IIRC). I'd imagine it will just get better with age, too.

I'm a fan of lime & coconut.

I use FA Coconut and Lime Cold Pressed, both at 1%.

Coconut lime sounds really nice. What % TFA Coconut Extra would result in a strong coconut flavor but not overpowering and chemically tasting?

Also, what lemon would pair with it nicely? I have several lemon sicily's, FE lemon, TFA Lemon, TFA Lemon Lime, etc.

I have no pear at the moment and wizard labs is commonly out.

I am a huge fan of adding a little coconut to a custardy base. It makes it creamier and just seems to round it out really well.

Thanks everyone for your input! I have many ideas stirring up in my head. Currently working on filling up these 5x 50ml plastic bottles with some serious custards and letting them steep at least a month :).

Side question - where should I buy my citric acid for cheap? I have PG already.

I love the stuff with FA Pineapple and FA Jamaican Rum and FA Fresh Cream. Make a great pina colada...

I've started throwing it in all my mixes at around .2-.3% for a slight creaminess. Haven't tasted any yet but can't wait! They smell damn good.
