On tea and fruits
submitted over 10 years ago by Entishbrony

Hi guys! I apologize if this has already been covered, but I ran a few searches and didn't find what I was looking for.

There have been several extremely helpful threads on extracting tea to make vape flavourings and, eventually, vape liquids. Additionally, some people have mentioned that extracting fruit at home is tedious and annoying. In my own flavour search, I've read that oil based flavours and extracts are not ideal for vaping.

So here is my real question: Bigelow's Constant Comment is probably my favourite bagged tea, and I would love to vape it. I know orange peels and possibly cinnamon are components of this lovely blend. Is it possible to extract and make into flavour to vape safely? Do I remove orange peels since they may have oil? Any insight and tips are greatly appreciated.

You need to boil and catch the steam. Lipid oils evaporate at a much higher temperature than the temperature at which water boils. Catching the steam will leave you with water and essential oils which are not lipid oils. That does not necessarily make it safe to vape, but this is one way of extracting essential oils from things.

You can set up a soxhlet apparatus, less chance of burning the tea then using a wet steam distillation process, and since it uses a reflux condenser you can run a soxhlet for hours without the need to be constantly adding water or draining oil. Everything collects in the boiling flask until you're ready to separate after your done extracting.

What about a black tea? Could you do a black tea in the same process as coffee extraction?
