Nana Cream - thoughts on Fizzmustard's recipe?
submitted over 10 years ago by Shmowzow

I just got into DIY because of /u/fizzmustard's post here.

I mixed up 50ml using the following recipe:

  • 5ml nicotine base (60mg in 100% vg)
  • 30ml VG
  • 6.25ml PG
  • 2.5ml Banana cream (LorAnn) -- 5%
  • 1.5ml Dragon Fruit (TFA) -- 3%
  • 3.5ml Strawberry (TFA) -- 7%
  • 1.25ml citric acid solution (PG-based)

This left me at 30/70 pg/vg ratio with about 2.5% citric acid.

It's been steeping for about a week and while the aroma seems spot-on, the flavor is noticeably different when I compare it to genuine nana cream from Bombies.

Have any of you had any luck adjusting the recipe to get it closer to the original?

Thanks!

I think it's pretty close :-p

What flavor(s) are you missing compared to the original? I'd love feedback and didn't ever get much in the original thread.

I'll be getting into diy within the next week or so because of this recipe, and price reasons so thanks! After spending a few hours reading and learning about different things I'm already excited about making other flavors. Funny part is, I haven't even had nana cream yet. It's been on my to buy list, just haven't gotten to it yet. Based on other flavors I've tried it already sounds like a winner to me. So here's what I'm going to do. Make a bunch of your recipe. Vape a lot of it, steep a lot of it. Repeat. Then after a month or two of that, I'm going to get the real deal. I'll let you know what I think of it then xD

I only vaped Nana Cream from March until late Nov 2014. I found your recipe when I decided a 120ml bottle a week was not affordable, it's good enough to where I still don't vape anything else, but I got a bottle of the real stuff for Xmas and your recipe and the real thing are 2 entirely different juices. I can't really describe the difference though. Still, as I said, I exclusively vape your recipe with no deviations. Well done.

Interesting! Can you try to explain the difference? I'm interested in the differences between palates (especially since my juice line is about to release)?

Also, do you prefer this to the real deal, or just the price :-p

by MulishaMan187over 10 years ago

The real stuff has more of a... Uh... Ripe taste? If that makes any sense. It could simply be a matter of the mix, I use 70vg nic and citric acid from nude nic. And on 77%vg with no added PG. Ripe is the only real adjective I can think of to describe the difference. I'm currently going back and forth between the 2 trying to ascertain what I'm noticing, but my palate is not my strongest asset.

And I prefer the DIY, Price is definitely a factor, but I did some blind taste tests with people at a local B&M and everyone picked your mix over the real deal.

On a juice order I had a couple months back I mentioned I was trying to recreate nana cream and they had said the secret was tfa raisin, let me look for it to verify. Edit: link I don't know if this is a joke or not, but I made it once with 2 drops and it wasn't good made it with 1 drop and it was alright nothing special though.

I've made and vaped 750 mL or more of his recipe. Honestly it's kinda close but still pretty far from the original in my opinion. I obviously enjoy it but I don't know what to do to make it closer. :(

I still feel like it's missing some creaminess or something. I'm not sure myself either, but my girlfriend and I are vaping the Fizzmustard clone right now haha.

I feel like it's extremely close as is, but I'm going to start trying to add some weak vanillas or custards to get that "rounded" creaminess the original has.

by Chrononaughtover 10 years ago

Hmmmm... all I have is Malted Milk (TFA), Vanilla Custard (TFA, CAP), Sweet Cream (TFA), and Marshmallow (TFA). Marshmallow might ad a welcoming sweetness, but idk about much creaminess. Wondering about Vienna Cream from FA?

Did you find a good combination to increase creaminess? I would love to know! I plan on mixing w/o Citric as well from now on.

It's pretty spot-on, but I agree...

thinking out lout here: LA Banana Cream is cream, so maybe bumping the percentages up 1 or 2 could create the desired taste? along with a little less citric acid.

Possible. But we will need further input on that kind of adjustment before we move on to adding different flavors.

Lol, for some reason i didn't even think of that... but that's a good starting point for sure!

Kinda late, but it tastes closer at %5.5 banana cream, %2 dragon fruit to me if you want to give that a try.

I think it's pretty spot-on personally!

Killed 400ml of the Fizzmustard recipe. It wasn't exact, but it was pretty close. I think my ratio was closer to 85/15 vg/pg and it was great. Kinda got me in trouble though. People started hearing about it and started coming into the shop I work at asking if I could sell them some.

6 points

by fizzmustardover 10 years agoBest Recipe of 2014

Ha, good on you for not trying to sell it. People are all over the country, sometimes claiming it's re-labeled original :/

I was in my B&M the other day and there was a guy in there claiming it was his nephew that cloned nana cream. It was a bit odd.

I was gonna let some people try it and only charge enough to cover my costs (shipping, supplies, etc). I mean, it's not like the recipe is secret or anything, but some people don't wanna get into the DIY thing. I still refer people to Bombies.com to buy it too.

Hey random question that doesn't really pertain to this thread but, I read on another that when you do your mixes you just have a couple bases already made with pg/vg/nic and then you just toss the flavors in. My question is, how long does the base last, or does this not affect the lifespan of the components?

2 points

by daathover 10 years agoMixologist

Hey there - I kept a 1L container of base in the fridge for almost a year, and as far as I could tell, it didn't affect the taste at all!

Base can also be frozen - So you can actually make a lot, freeze it in smaller containers, and pull them out of the freezer when you can see that you'll need more base soon-ish.

But again - I had no problems with a year old fridge-kept base!

I made a batch of the fizzmustard clone and found that it wasn't quite to my liking. It's very close, but I had to make a few adjustments for my palette to be satisfied. Personally I thought the percentage of dragonfruit was too high, so I lowered the percentage and added some pear. Here's the recipe I use now. I am in no way claiming my version is better or closer to the real thing, but it fits my palette much better.

TFA Strawberry 7% LA Banana Cream 5.5% TFA Pear 2% TFA Dragon Fruit 1.5 % Citric Acid 1.67% (this % based on 1 drop per ml using a 3ml pipette)

Im gonna make some up tonight like this and then some with 2% honey pearry clone concentrate instead of tfa pear in as well. will report back. Gonna try out the colorless bc too.

Honey Pearry clone concentrate? Very interesting. I'm going to try that next time I mix up a batch. That sounds delicious.

2 points

by fizzmustardover 10 years agoBest Recipe of 2014

Hmm. I just mixed this up and straight off the scale it seems like the pear is a bit aggressive. Dropping the Dragon Fruit and bumping the Banana Cream is quite nice though.

1 points

by point_five_ohmsover 10 years ago

Let it cure for about a week and the pear will mellow out. TFA Pear is a bit perfumey right away, but it blends nicely with the dragon fruit at those lower percentages, in my opinion. The dragon fruit was a bit too much for me at 3%. I'm not sure what it is about dragon fruit, I love the taste, but I had to tone it down a bit, and adding the pear helped with that.

This has been my ADV for weeks now, but the credit goes to you for coming up with the original clone, so thank you for that.

I just mixed this up, and I have to say, I like this! It's 'Nana Cream-esque, but it seems, I dunno..."brighter" on the palette? Maybe my pear has pre-mellowed in the jar or something, but I'm not getting too much of a harsh vibe from the Pear like /u/fizzmustard is getting (although I know exactly what he's referring to.) Lowering the dragonfruit seems to have reduced that mustiness aspect, and the pear always seems to compliment the strawberry very well. Nice modification! Thank you for sharing! :)

by point_five_ohmsover 10 years ago

You hit the nail on the head. The "brightness" is exactly what I got from it too when I added the pear. It's much more satisfying to me now than it was with the extra dragon fruit. I'm glad you like it.

Next batch I am going to add some vanilla swirl. I found it pairs with Dragonfruit REALLY REALLY well, it's this combo at the heart of suckerpunch from SB.

Try Dragonberry:

Dragonfruit 10%

Strawberry 4%

Vanilla Swirl 4%

Bavarian Cream 2%

Sweetener 1%

Koolada 1%

I love it,went through 120ml in 2 weeks. It's close but not the original. Then again the original has been terrible lately.

I kick up the LA banana cream to 7% personally.

I enjoyed /u/fizzmustard's 'Nana Cream Clone quite a bit, I also felt that it was pretty close to the original. I decided though that the dragonfruit in it was just a bit too strong and slightly changed up the flavor %'s to my liking. In addition to that I decided to incorporate the Citric Acid into the recipe just to get more consistent results. My current recipe is as follows.
LA Banana Cream - 6%
TFA Dragonfruit - 1%
TFA Strawberry - 8%
Citric Acid - 2.25%

im loving mine.

i used all VG, and about 7% banacream. 4-5% dragon. 10% strawberry. and about a 1/2 drop per ml, of loran sour ( which is mostly citirc acid with some others and malic )

its not 100% nanna, maybe 90-95%

1 points

by aaa12585over 10 years ago

How would you say it compared to the original fizzmustard clone?

Would you say it adds a little extra creaminess that u/Chrononaught expresses is missing?

2 points

by heeroguyover 10 years ago

well i didn't mix the original. as i use max vg so i just added roughly what i thought to make ou for VG

but mine is pretty close. i feel it lacks a lil on the strawberry end. but i think the lil bit of malic acid in the sour mix, mutes just a slight amount of something, cause to me the creamyness is there, but the straw just seems a lil weak.

next batch just adjusting the dragon and the straw a lil

Excellent findings! I've been experiencing the same thing. Banana Cream stands out a little too much compared to the rest. Going to up the strawberry and dragon.

Hey sorry for a reply to an old post. I tried something simular to this with less strawberry and it really gunked my coils fast. Did yours do the same?

I made this recipe using Capella's Strawberry, and it was still surprisingly close. Remixed upping the percentage of banana cream to 6% and liked it even more. The only issue I have with it is I think the citric acid is a bit too much (1 drop per ml). Next run through i'll be dropping the citric down a bit, switching my strawberry out (I only had Capella Strawberry and TFA Ripe Strawberry to work with yesterday).

All in all, still a fantastic recipe.

Never tried the original and didn't have all of the flavors so I made this one up. 10 ml didn't even last 24 hours lol.

  • Banana Split -- 4%
  • TFA Bananas Foster -- 2%
  • Strawberry (Ripe) (TPA) -- 2%
  • Strawberry - TFA -- 6%
  • Whipped Cream -- 1%
