More e-liquid-recipes.com changes!
submitted over 10 years ago by daathMixologist

Ok, a few changes! There is a lot of small tweaks! First of all, I wanted to add some new functionality on the recipes, but it was getting really crowded with buttons. Show I moved them all into an "action button", beside the recipe name. This is where you will find the "Print", "Adapt this", "Edit" and "Delete".

There are a few new options: There are four new copy to clipboard items:

  • Copy as markdown (used with reddit)
  • Copy as BBCODE (used with some other forums)
  • Copy as HTML-text
  • Copy as real HTML (for pasting in to rich text editors)

Not all forums that use markdown and BBCODE support tables, and this uses tables, so don't be surprised if it doesn't look right everywhere.

Do you have an ADV? Are you tired of constantly mixing all the flavors again and again? Why not try to make a flavor base? It's your recipe, but only the flavoring! That way you only measure off from ONE flavor when you mix your ADV! Try it! Click the action button and select "Make flavor base"!

For those of you who don't feel like mixing right now, or don't feel like buying the flavors needed for a recipe, you can now ORDER the recipe from the awesome VapeCrafter-site! They have more or less EVERY flavor you can imagine! Try them out!

You can now sort on the recipes on the flavor details page. That was missing.

I hope you like it! Happy vaping!

This works well, thanks for the hard work. I like the fact that the Juice name is a link back to the site

1 Question....when you create a flavor base, where do you find it when you want to use it, I cant seem to find an area for the flavor bases.

Or is it when you want to make a flavor base you just go to the recipe and click the button to make it a base. And then create a new recipe using that base?

I designed the flavor base thing to be used on recipes.

At some point I will make a "log" where you can see what you've made, attach notes to it, record how much you've used. Not just for flavor bases but for recipes.

I've only just started with ELR, but as a software engineer I'm amazed that this is pretty swell. My normal inclination is to reimplement, but ELR is fantastic. Keep on trucking, and I'll keep on using.

It's PHP using Laravel :)

You read my mind with the pre-mixed flavor base :) thanks for the site.

Also while I love the extra info in the flavors in our own flavor stash, once you get a bunch of flavors in there it can get a little difficult to see just a list of what you have on hand without a lot of scrolling (besides printing w/o details). Maybe think about something like allowing it to be multi column, or even better have the flavors details be collapsible so you can close them all and show the details on a few to compare.

Also alsø while the cost calculation stuff is good, I'd like a way to keep track of how many ml of a flavor I have on hand. If I'm going to get greedy begging for features on a free and awesome site, those quantities will be appropriately reduced when I hit the "Made It!" on a recipe. We can dream. Thanks for your work, it saves me time.

Glad you like the flavor base stuff - I think it will be a good tool :D

Yes, I considered doing a separate page for an overview - But for now you can get your overview with the search by flavor stash :)

There will be a "Record batch" feature on both flavor base and recipes, and both will subtract from your stash :) Around the same time that I do the cost calculation...

Again, I'm fairly busy with my normal work, but I try to get some stuff done on ELR in the weekends, when I feel like it :) So no promises, but it will get done eventually!

One of my big gripes to tackle is still doing something about the flavor naming - so everyone will use the same flavor names!

by BonRenningtonover 10 years ago

Ah, I hadn't thought to use the search by stash feature like that, good tip thanks.

Reining in the flavor names is basically the same problem I've run into on a site I'm developing and as far as I can tell you've got the best approach with the fuzzy search. You can still allow them to enter new flavors (critical) but unless it's some DIY it's probably already in there, so the fuzzy search helps guide them to it if its there... Not ideal but the best way I can think of doing it.

What kind of package? I'm pretty happy with my hosting at Digital Ocean :)

Ah ok. I need my shell access :D And I'm very happy with Digital Ocean at the moment :)

But thanks a lot for the offer :)

Where can I see the cost of the recipe after i fill in all prices in my flavor stash?

3 points

by daathover 10 years agoMixologist

The cost hasn't been implemented quite yet! But if you fill the fields out - Some day, all of a sudden, it's going to tell you how much your batch cost! :)

by stickyfingers1over 10 years ago

Great, thank you! I use your site all the time, it is awesome. Is the weight function for flavors implemented yet (adding my own values)?
Something I would like to see is the median or average mixing % in a column next to each flavor in the recipe. Keep up the good work!

1 points

by daathover 10 years agoMixologist

You're welcome! Glad you like it! :)

If you specify your own flavor weight, ELR uses that instead of the default!

Interesting idea with the flavor medians - I'll write it down and think about it!

Hey daath, you know those tshirt companies where you post up your design and get monetary kickbacks for each shirt sold? I forget the name, but I think there's plenty out there now. To encourage people to mark their content as public, do you think the integration with VapeCrafter would eventually see a feature like that is a possibility?

2 points

by daathover 10 years agoMixologist

Aaah, a kickback for the owner of the recipe? That's a pretty cool idea actually! :D

1 points

by Glitchlolover 10 years ago

Yeah, even if it wasn't in the way of money - maybe every referral sale you make to VapeCrafter, you get 1 juice crafting token or something which can be used towards an order on their site. Win/win for everyone!

Of course, then you'll have to implement some kinda duplicate recipe thing. Ha.

by daathover 10 years agoMixologist

Small change that didn't warrant a separate post: ELR will now auto-correct PG/VG-ratios when they don't fit. Before you got a warning telling you that something was wrong with the ratio, and you had to correct it yourself.

1 points

by torturedzenover 10 years agoMixologist

Hey Daath...kind of off-topic but, every time I go to make a new recipe on my page I keep having to make corrections to my base settings...even though I click the "save as default" each time. Am I doing something wrong? -TZ

by daathover 10 years agoMixologist

It's funny you mention this - I think it might have stopped working. I just noticed when adapting, that it didn't show my new values.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention - I'll look into it and have it working again asap!

1 points

by daathover 10 years agoMixologist

Hmm actually I just tested now, and it worked fine?! :/

I did see a couple of problems with my new code, that auto-corrects PG/VG-ratio that I have to fix :-/

I absolutely love this site, and it has made getting started with DIY so much easier for me.

One feature I'd love to see, would be something that suggests which flavors you should buy to increase the number of recipes you can make.

For example, with the flavors I currently own, I can make 30 public recipes. If I were to add bavarian cream to my flavor stash, that number would go up to 34. A list of which ingredients can be added to your stash, sorted by the number of new recipes it would enable, would be very helpful in deciding what I should order.

Thanks again for the great site!

Thank you!

That's an interesting idea - I shall write it down, and mull it over! Please note that my todo-list is already huge - So don't expect anything - at least not immediately :)

Hey Daath! I love your site! I've just been struggling to set up my flavour stash. For example when I try to add Inawera Honey, there are 4 different listings of it. Is there anyway to combine these on my side without adding all 4 of them? I find this is the case for the majority of flavours I own and I'm curious if there is some kind of work around.

1 points

by daathover 10 years agoMixologist

Thanks! :) Unfortunately there isn't any work-around. The thing to do is either add them all, or just add the correct one :) The correct one being the one with the most recipes - You can check that by using the flavor list.

I do eliminate some duplicates every once in a while, but I'm missing a lot :P

My one huge item on the to-do-list, is standardizing them all, and making it harder to add new flavors (we should have them all by now)...

1 points

by UnknownWonover 10 years ago

Oh wow, that's way easier. I'm not sure if this is possible at all, but it'd be fantastic if we were able to add flavours's to our stash right from their page. Do you think that's a possibility? It'd make much quicker work of it.

Either way, the page is a great help. Thanks a bunch!!!

2 points

by daathover 10 years agoMixologist

You can! It's at the top the big Add to stash-button :) You can also add to your shopping list, or if you have the flavor in your stash, you can add notes, details about the flavor :)
