First diy juice made!
submitted almost 11 years ago by kofrad

I've been lurking here for a couple of months doing my research and looking into DIY. Well last week I finally made a couple orders and got the first one a day early today! I spent some time sorting everything out and getting organized. Then I went through and scent tested everything to get some ideas for a first mix. I settled on a nice fruit blend, put some numbers into my calculator and came up with the proper amounts to mix. It was a little tricky working with syringes and I think very soon I'll need to move on to mixing by weight just because of that. After finally getting it all mixed up, shaken and giving it a few minutes to sit I tried out my creation and it wasn't too bad at all. A bit harsh at first and the flavors seem muted, but I do have a cold so I suspect that is part of it.

For now I have my little 8ml mix sitting in a cool dark place where it will stay for the next week with a good shake every day. I'll check it out then without the cold to see how I should tweak it for best results. If anyone has any tips on how to improve this recipe, I'd love to hear them!

StrawCanMallow

  • ~85% VG - 3mg nicotine - 8ml batch
  • 7% TFA Cantaloupe
  • 6% TFA Strawberry Ripe
  • 2% TFA Marshmallow

Looks like a nice pairing of proven flavors. Cantaloupe and Honey Dew kinda have the same flavor profile, and are equally strong IMO. The total % of flavor is appropriate for a higher VG mix like you've done, and if you decide to go lower, be sure to drop down your total %. I've got Strawberry Ripe in a 4oz bottle from TFA, and I find that anything over 8% starts to taste bad, so you might want to drop the % down a bit. But it looks like it could be a good shake and vape; I'll give it a try on my next mixing session, and get you some feedback.

Thanks for the tips. I thought about adding a bit of honeysuckle in bit the flavor seems so mellow I'm not sure how much I would notice it. I did also feel the strawberry was coming in a bit more than the cantaloupe. I may just add a tiny bit more cantaloupe and marshmallow to the mix next week if it doesn't improve.

Also currently the only source of PG in my juice is from the flavors. My nicotine base is VG and I somehow forgot to order PG. That will be coming in the mail Friday with another set of flavors. I likely won't use much of the PG as I prefer full on VG but I think it might help if I need to help the flavors stand out a little more.

I'm new to this but it sounds like a good combo to me. Congrats on making your first batch!

Thanks much! Having ordered a good 30 or so flavors it's a bit tricky to figure out where to start with so many options! I might need to see if I can't figure out something similar to Adirondack's Miracle on Ice sometime soon.

I just started vaping a couple months ago, I've been trying out large sample batches of liquid from different vendors to try to figure out what I like best. I think I have a decent idea now, hopefully I will be able to start making my own soon. Even with the cheaper juice vendors liquid is really adding up. And I think I can mix for my own tastes easier than I can guess if I like a juice just based on a one line description. Just need to stop buying new mods and atomizers lol.

is it in a glass bottle? if so, get some rice and fill a coffee mug half way, microwave it for 30 seconds. Check the heat, microwave for another 15 if necessary. Push bottle in rice to speed steep. You'll have to reheat the rice every 30 mins or so. Works quite well. I reuse the rice over and over and seems to work.

Not in a glass bottle. I'm using the 10ml plastic bottles from wizard labs. I tend to prefer the plastic just for ease of dripping. Thanks for the tip though!

One thing i did when i got my flavors is make a 5ml batch of each in a 50/50 blend at 5% flavoring. It's not as long as one would think, just make a "big" quantity of the nic/vg/pg blend and add it to 0.2ml of the flavor. It's pretty good syringe practice too. They definitely felt awkward to use the first few times.

Obviously you could tweak it to 10% flavoring with higher VG or whatever you feel would be optimal for you.

Really gives you a good idea of the strength of each flavor and which tastes more perfumy nor artificial than others.

After a couple hits of a few you can even mix two you'd think would fit well together for an instant recipe!

I also took notes on everything i did for future reference.

For me at least it was pretty good way to get into the whole thing, figured i'd share. GL!
