Turkey Baster as Massive Pipette for Handling VG or Base

I might be on to something here. I got this Norpro 5898 Stainless Steel Baster from amazon for $8.95 to use as a giant pipette. It comes with an odd screw-on tip (0.136in OD, equivalent to 10ga syringe needle). After putting an old drip tip o-ring between the needle/body to make it air tight, it will draw up 80% VG base 40ml at a time.

The bulb still isn't quite stiff enough and sucks in that thick juice slowly (still much faster than a large syringe), but its easier than using a large syringe with no needle (where air bubbles can dump juice on the table if I'm careless), or trying to pour directly into a narrow dropper bottle (from a graduated cylinder, or using a funnel).

The slowest part of my process mixing has been getting the base in each bottle when I'm not making large batches. Finally, preparing a round of 10ml flavor tests only takes a few minutes!

How do you know it's an accurate/full 40ml at a time?

Well.... I can't. It would probably be better for someone mixing by weight.

I either fill one bottle by syringe and then fill the others with this to the same height, or just eyeball the level for narrower 10ml bottles. Either way, my error is about +/- 1ml for the base, giving me just under 1% error in total flavor concentration for a finished 10ml bottle, or ~0.5% error in total flavor concentration for a 30ml bottle.

I'm also using it to fill bottles from a finished large batch where I don't really care of the bottle contains 30ml or 35ml, e.g. transfer 500ml of finished ejuice into 16x30ml bottles.

VG was always a hassle for me as well. Then I found a "80 ml catheter syringe" on eBay for $3. Huge opening and sucks up VG with no issue while giving you the ability to measure.

FUCK YEA what a great idea!

If mixing by weight, just make sure you have confirmation of the dispensed volume. But what a great way to re-purpose a tool. Great thinking man :)

We do the shampoo pump bottles here at the lab but I can TOTALLY see the use of a turkey baster at some point

wha?? I'd thought of looking for something like those pump style ketchup dispensers, but I'll have to look at these too.
