Review: American Weigh Scales ACP-200 digital scale. 200x0.01g $13.49

I picked up this scale from Amazon for $13.49 shipped on Amazon Prime. It comes with a pleather pouch and plastic lid that swings closed to cover the scale and buttons. Easy to read screen and easy to tare and continue. 200g max capacity and .01g resolution.

It DOES have an auto-off timer (anywhere between 59 and 61 seconds by my measuring,) however, it only shuts off of 60 seconds after a key press (such as tare) OR change in weight. If you add anything to the scale, the timer starts over, and thus won't turn off while dropping ingredients. I don't see a way in the manual to disable the timer.

I often see the $30 one on here, however, I'm a cheapstake and wanted to make my DIY dollar go as far as possible. At 200g, I'm hoping to be able to make a 100mL bottle.

It comes with two AAA already installed (with a 'remove' tab to ensure the batteries don't get used up.)

It does not come with a calibration scale, nor have I tried to calibrate it with my weights -- however, since I'm going for percentrages of mixtures, if it's a little off, it doesn't matter much as I'm all casting in one session per bottle.

I don't have much to compare to (besides digital reloading scales,) however, I'm very impressed. Rating: 9.5/10 only because I would like to disable the auto-off timer.

Fellow cheapskate here. I purchased the same scale in 2009 when I first started mixing by weight. It's served me very well; I haven't had to recalibrate it except after extended loss of power, and I haven't noticed much measurement drift over the years. I place a 100g standard on at the start of each mixing session and it's always within .02g of where it should be. Which equates to about one drop of PG-based flavoring out of my dispenser bottles - plenty of accuracy for my use.

The auto-off bothered me for a time but it soon became a habit to pick up and replace the bottle (to reset the timer) when I'm not actively using the scale for a bit.

I would calibrate it just for making sure your nic level is accurate.

Editted to add: It's all percentages, so if it's off by even 5%, wouldn't also all of my other ingredients be...?

I have that one its very good and it did come calibrated correctly.

I will say, if the changes in weight are under roughly 1gram it will still time out. That's my only gripe with it.

Been working quite well. I've mixed 8 bottles so far, without auto shut off issues. I believe it shuts off after 2 minutes, but I prepare everything before I start weighing and it's been fine.

Nice. I was thinking of picking one of these up at the beginning of the year. Only been DIYing for a couple months and already I can see how much faster mixing by weight would be.

Once I have my bottles all out on the table and my flavors in dripper bottles (the nud nic and wizard labs stuff didn't come in dripper bottles...) it takes less than two minutes to mix a bottle of juice. I also made an excel spreadsheet that I use to calculate weights based on percentage input.

How different is the density between VG/PG? Do you need to take it into consideration?

I have one, but it turns off every 30 seconds or so, even when in pouring or dripping drops, bought the 500 and it plugs in to the wall so it doesn't shut off

Yeah, that's the $30 one I've seen a bunch. I figured if anyone wanted to be as cheap as I was, that this would work just as well as long as you don't take your sweet time. :)

Got ya...sometime my flavors are in dropper bottles and others arent so when measuring with a syringe you slow down a bit, and then in the middle of your drops, the damn thing would shut off %#$@^%$@# So anyway, i am definatley being more accurate and thought WTF, lets get a better scale

I use one from the same manufacturer for my coffee measurements, it's a nice piece of equipment for the price.
