E-liquid-recipes changes!
submitted almost 11 years ago by daathMixologist

EDIT: This is for e-liquid-recipes.com - The biggest e-liquid calculator and database in the world ;-D

Lots of changes!

I was contacted by a couple of users that requested a feature that I had been missing myself: A shopping list. If you go to the flavor details page of a flavor, you can now add the flavor to your shopping list.

The shoppinglist itself is available from "My Page".

You can now update your notes and rating of a flavor through the flavor details page itself. It was a bummer to have to go to the stash to do that.

The stash now contains several other properties: Flavor container size in ml and the cost of that. Also you can specify the carrier liquid (PG/VG/other) of the flavor plus the weight per ml. These values are automatically used when present, creating recipes. If you don't write anything, or remove what you have previously written, default values apply: Flavors are PG and the weight of PG-flavors are 1.09, VG-flavors 1.16 and other-flavors 0.98.

You can specify what percentage you like to mix, when mixing the flavor as a SINGLE flavor recipe. This will be used to enrich the flavor details page. (Not implemented yet).

If you go to update your profile, you will find a boat load of new fields: Nicotine container size (ml), nicotine price, PG container size (ml), PG price etc.

The price fields will be used to calculate a price for the mixes you do. (Not implemented yet).

These changes opens up the possibility to track how much of a liquid you have on hand. (Not implemented yet).

I hope you like it! Also, I'm tired, so I might have forgotten something :)

Happy vaping!

Great work! Though the number one thing I would really love is name standardization. I know that it's a lot of work but it will just continue to grow until standardization is implemented. Really hope to see this in the near future. Thanks for your work!

This is the only reason I don't use the site. It's too clunky the way it is. I have to put my flavors in several times each in order to take advantage of the what can I make feature. Not worth the time for me.

Yes, name standardization is something I've been thinking about solving for a while now. Very soon, I'll start working seriously on it. Precisely how, I'm not sure yet. It has to be easy to work with ;)

I have experience with coding similar to what I think would need to be done to standardize the names. At one point I was working on a speech recognition search engine that I had to essentially translate user error and account for the speech recognition error, it should be pretty similar.

for example: user says "I wanna order a couple hawaiian pizzas" ---> speech reco output "I want to order a couple Hawaiian pizzas" --> actual query based on comparison to info I pre-loaded into my database (like an exact flavor name list from a vendor) "[order 2] [pizza] [pineapple and ham]"

I'd be glad to help out

That sounds interesting. I'd love to hear more about how you were thinking it could be done! :)

My plan was to split the flavors and the brands, so there is one Blueberry, and then a boat load of brands that have that flavor... That still requires a massive amount of work. Also it is hard to design an interface as easy as the one we use now :)

That's great news! Love the idea of the site, but feel it's effectiveness is really hampered by the lack of name standardization. Too much data entry to get back a bunch of single/double flavor mixes

Do you think the add ingredient area under create recipe could have a manufacturer drop down and a flavor drop down box with all existing flavors in a small database? I think most of the flavors have already been cataloged by brand in a google doc I saw a few days ago.

One thing I haven't been able to figure out is, is there a way we can edit recipes we've submitted? I've made revisions to a recipe I have on there and would like to update it.

Had to go back through your submitted history to figure out this is for this website. You should um.... post the link to the website for those of us that didn't know what you were talking about.

I just want you to know I use the shit out of your website. It's amazing and there's nothing else like it out on the web. I don't think there really needs to be, because it has just about everything.

Something I've wanted since I started using it, is the ability to group flavors together. Say someone uses CAP Pineapple and someone else uses FW. I'd like to still be able to see all general pineapple recipes when searching instead of having to go through each individually. Not a big deal at all, just figured I'd throw that out there.

Thanks for the site!

Edit: This is probably the standardization everyone else is referring to in this thread. So, awesome! Looks like you're already on it. :D

Yes, that's part of the flavor standardization stuff - I call that a "fuzzy" search. It will give you the idea of the recipe, but if you replace Blueberry (TPA) 8% with Bilberry (FA) 8% you're gonna have a bad time ;) You yourself have to account for the difference in tastes :)

I love the shopping list... beter than my system of putting empty bottles off to the side. And then I end up ordering when I'm at work and forget a couple flavors.

I suck at remembering what I need to order - so to myself it is so nice :D

Thanks for the site, as a new DIYer it has helped a ton with getting started and making everything easy. If I can, there is one feature I would love to see - an export and import feature (eJMU format or other), to be able to take our recipes back and forth between ELR and desktop programs, or just to back up. As it is I've been duplicating everything in local spreadsheets, but over time that is going to be tough to do. As a programmer I'd love to help write a module for the format or something, though it looks like you're using PHP, not one that I do a lot of. If there is some other way I could help though please let me know!

Again, great work and I love the changes so far! Thank you for providing a great resource for us.

You're welcome!

Export/import is on my todo-list, but there are so many things on it :) I'm sure I will get around to do it eventually!
