Getting back into DIY, to make simple custards for dripping. What are some good secondary flavors to add in?
submitted almost 11 years ago by jhmacair

I started doing DIY a while back, but the flavors I bought were not very good, so I gave up. I still have all my tools and other supplies (bottle, syringes, nic, glycerin), and I'd like to get back in with simple recipes.

I'd like to follow this basic custard recipe:

7% cap vanilla custard

2% tfa dulce de leche

What are some good flavors I could try adding in, to make several different custard variants? Looking for mostly fruit flavors, but I am open to savory/dessert flavors.

FA doesn't have a 'blueberry' but bilberry is basically the EU equivalent.

#### Bilberry:

>Bilberry is any of several Eurasian species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium (family Ericaceae), bearing edible, nearly black berries. The species most often referred to is Vaccinium myrtillus L., but there are several other closely related species. Bilberries are distinct from blueberries but closely related to them.

% ?

I tried this @ 5, 10, 15 and 20% and got virtually no flavor from it, just like their Dr. Pop flavor...Hints of strawberry but nothing usable. Been steeping almost for a month now so about time to try it again but was severely disappointed out of the gate.

I did the same thing when I got it, 5 10 and 20, 10% was a perfect strawberry for me, are you sure you didn't have other flavors on your pallet interfering? I actually had someone just order a 240ml bottle of just that after I gave him a 30 of it at 10%

start @ 0.5-1% and go from there. TFA Blackberry is extremely potent.

Banana Cream (LA), Strawberry (either/both Cap sweet or TFA Ripe), Wild Blueberry TFA. Any of those will make a nice simple custard. This is my wife's favorite custard and one of my early custard recipes.

Sugar Cookie (CAP) also works well with custard.

I'd recommend stacking Vanilla custard v2 and v1 together. They are different, but good. That's what I've been doing recently with great success. I love my custards.

V1 captures the cream, and in my opinion, that's all it does well. I vaped 12% with 100% VG after a weeks steep and that's all I got - cream. I also noticed pretty severe throat irritation from V1. However, most people like this better from what I've read.

V2 captures the higher, sweet notes and IMO tastes more like custard. It also requires little to no steeping. I like this one more, taste wise. It is also more forgiving - I've vaped it at 25% and I've vaped it at 10%. 12-15% seems ideal standalone.

On my next order I'll be getting capella's French Vanilla V2, which I've heard is quite good - many people liking it when they didn't like VCv2. This could definitely be added. In fact, I'll probably just buy all the v2's I can - I really want to see what they can do.

(Long post - wow.)

Does anyone know if 7% is going to be too low. I've seen a huge range for the custard, about to make this myself.

As for what to add. I will list a few I thnk would go okay: RY4, Caramel, Vanillin, Toasted Almond, Cinnamon Danish, Nutmeg, Egg Nog, etc.

I used to use 20% but I was using bad nicotine now I like to stick to 12-15%. I like the flavor to be full and thick and stick in my nose and mouth after vaping

I made one today that was 2.25 ml of CAP vanilla custard, .5 ml TPA Ducle De Leche, and .25 TPA Horchata Smooth. Came out quite delicious and sure it'll taste better in a couple days. This was made in a 15 ml bottle.
