I was searching for the coldest vape. Again and again axiom icicles came up. I got it. It didnt cut it. So I contacted Variablesin in regards to a recipe he had mentioned that was colder than icicles.
He responded with a recipe specifically deisgned for tanks, that was amazing, and sent me a whole slew of info amout how to use menthol well. I havent asked to post his recipe so I wont unless he says it is ok.
So I wanted to make the coldest, honestly kind of hurting cold vape for low ohm drippers. I havent gotten the recipe down yet with mint or fruit, but I wanted to figure out the coldness factor menthol provides.
So i mixed up every menthol percent, this is total percentage of menthol crystals in the final mix, not the percent of menhol solution used.
1-2 percent- this is where the average person probably likes their menthol. 2 percent menthol with 2 percent spearmint is a super solid easy as hell mix.
3 percent- medicinal taste starts to appear unpleasntly too much for your average person. Cold, but not there yet.
4 percent- medicinal taste will absolutely put off even people who like menthol. This may be what axioms icicles is.
5 percent- pretty simmilar to 4. Icicles could be here as well. Unless you fucking looooovvee menthol and freezing ass vapes, probably dont want to go higher, this is the highest i can go with out needing to add additional flaforings.
6 percent- now we are getting there. Pretty damn ice cold. Total medicinal taste.
7 percent- This is 0 degrees. Leaves a nasty taste in your mouth. Get it on your skin and it tingles for a while.
8 percent- bingo for maximum coldness for my self. This plus a few percent of really what ever the hell you want. Apple, mints of any type, clove, cucumber. Banana menthol kind of sucks a lot. Coffee menthol is fucing weird but i am starting to love it.
9 percent- where the made for tank recipe was. Diminishing returns start to occur. Start to feel a weird pain behind my teeth dripping it. Got hit near my eye with some splatter from firing my coils with out the top cap. Was very uncomfortably cold for a long time.
10 percent- hurt the back of my teeth bad. Left horrible taste in my mouth for like 30 min. Made drinking a glass of water hurt so bad it was impossible.
20 percent- yeah I just dripped the menthol concentrate I had. I cant say I actually was able to vape it.
The recipe I am really enjoying right now is just 3% tfa apple candy with 40% FW menthol. Yikes I know, but it is a weak ass menthol solution in comparison to what is out there, 20%, where you can get 60% from other manufacturers, so 12% of that would be the same.
Another very nice recipe that is way less extreme your average user would like
5% Nude Nic lemon Mint.
10% FW menthol.
Thanks for reading. Im drunk, on mbile app, it is 5 am I cant sleep so sorry if none of this makes sense lol.
Next experiment up is will koolada increase the cold factor, or just add its nasty butt taste? Experiments on MSG are going to happen... as soon as I get it. Banana coffee menthol is still not coming out right either. And why dont vendors charge more for higher nic content juices? And more next week!
TLDR; 1-2 percent total menthol is probably where you want to mix at, real menthol lovers at 4-5 And "cold chasers" at 7-8.
Edit: Few days later and I just read this scientific shit on menthol. is a link to a PDF sorry, dont know how to mke it not. http://www.inchem.org/documents/sids/sids/MENTHOLS.pdf&ved=0CDgQFjAH&usg=AFQjCNEjO9l1ztH2xc49pSkSybyo-50ryA&sig2=jJkecI3V2HM57xgosvYGaw
Good read, they fed rats a shitload of menthol though damn...
How the fuck does icicles not cut it? The only vaper I've ever met that can tolerate it is the guy from the axiom booth at VapeMania. Everyone else I've given it to chokes on the first tiny hit, its a prank juice we use on coworkers at MadVapes
Dude, do you know how good I breathe now? Haha
But really axiom is just fine as a longer use vape for me. 7 and 8 percent mixes are for funsies a few times a day more so, because you stop getting that punch to the face of cold after you vape icicles for a few hours.
Sounds like a fun place to work, id love it when that "prank" would happen to me.
