I've been at this for a while, but decided I'd "wing it" on a recipe I saw here...had the right flavors, but from a different manufacturer. Long story short, it came out like a sweet, indistinct BLAAAHHHH. Added a little more PG and VG and now I can TASTE flavors, not just an indistinct, unspecified sweetness. It wasn't "unvapeable" before I added more PG and VG, just "blah." So I think that's a good sign that you've just BARELY overflavored it. If there was WAY too much flavoring, it would be harsh and unpleasant to vape, and the mix could be unsalvageable. Just thought I'd share, in case anyone else tries to "wing it" and wants to try to save their mix. Cheers!
Chemical/soap/perfume-ish taste, harshness, overpowering flavors(only one flavor coming out in a mix). That's from my current experience(not much).
Never came up with an "unvapeable" mix so far, worst was a 20% TFA green apple/2% tfa sour/2% tfa sweetener/2% tfa lemon juice. Ended up tasting soapy and pretty harsh to the throat. Went through 2x 30ml and got 3 left, most likely going to dilute them. 1 I'll probably use to end up somewhere near 12% green apple and add some TFA Apple and FA Pear to it. The 2 others I'll probably use in candy-ish recipes.
Like OP says, don't toss failed mixes. Sometimes just a little add-on can bring it back to life.
Yeah, even a month in the "To be decided later" basket can do wonders. I have a couple flavors that apparently are going to be a pain to develop because they aren't speed-steepable.
I tried a dudes DIY the other day at my local B&M and almost retched, lol. He must have had like 35-40% flavoring in there. He said it was banana-strawberry smoothie... to me it was soap and hand-sanitizer, lol.
Had to re-wick after that ordeal.
20% Green Apple? MY GOD!
Yeah it's not THAT bad but it really is harsh.
I could imagine. It's quite an acidic flavoring. It might help if you organize your flavors by acidity. This will help you round out what you make. Rate them on a scale of smoothness to harshness. This will also assist you in allocating percentages since the harsh ones will be used at very low percentages, opposed to the "smooth" ones allowing you for higher percentage use when necessary.
When you say Dilute them do you mean adding more VG/PG? sorry I'm new at this and just started getting into DIY
