Hello and new recipe site
submitted almost 11 years ago by jesshewitt

Edit: I've taken the live site down for now. Thanks to everyone for checking it out. The new permanent home will be at chukr.xyz and I'll be sure to post an update when it's ready for use.

Hey guys!

I’ve been lurking here for the last month or two and trying to learn as much as possible. I’ve also been working on a new recipe site for the last few weeks. I was hoping to get some feedback from you before I decide if I should continue development on it and make it public. Please note that it’s currently beta, untested, and lacking much actual data.

I have tried both .1ml and e-liquid-recipes and think they are awesome. The reason I started working on this is because I wanted to combine the best features of both sites, as well as some other features not (to my knowledge) present in either.

Current site features (some require registering with the site and will not be visible to guests):

  • Public and private recipes
  • Inventory and batch tracking
  • Flavor and recipe reviews
  • Ability to mix by weight, volume, or drops
  • Ability to find recipes that match your inventory
  • Recipe inspiration helpers (i.e. create recipe from tags, or randomly from flavors you have)

So the feedback I’m especially looking for is:

  • Would you use this site if it were publicly available?
  • Are there any features you’d really like to see from a recipe site?
  • What could I do to make adding your recipes/inventory as painless as possible?

Any other feedback is welcome, too. Thanks for taking the time to check it out!

Looks like you standardized the flavoring naming. That's been my biggest problem with the other sites.

Looks great! Will I be able to keep notes of my mixing attempts private or will everything be public?

All of the batch and inventory stuff is private, so nobody else can see what you have or what you're working on.

Export as plain text? I think i love you, err, the site. Im one of the sad few who still use the GopherWeb daily, im a bit of a minimalist.

Standardize naming conventions and simplicity, yes, i would use the site and have bookmarked it.

It's only going to be here temporarily (borrowing web hosting from another project). I will definitely let everyone know when it gets a permanent home.

Wasnt until after i posted that i noticed i BM'd and IP, hehe. I hope it all works out, i would very much like to see this site go live. One of the things that irritate me the most is people posting recipes and not the flavoring vendor, i may not use the vendors flavor but it will give me a starting point for conversion.

Standardized flavor naming is absolutely amazing, and I'm glad this has mixing by weight included. The inventory feature is much appreciated so I can keep track of when I made what batch. Overall love this site, keep up the good work and I look forward to an official launch!

It would be cool if I could list the flavors I have, and the search pulls up recipes using only those flavors. I've heard eliquid recipes has this but I've never figured it out, maybe I'm using it wrong.

Edit: never mind, re read the post and your already on top of that. You're awesome

Looks amazing! I'd like to explore the user side of things, but trying to sign up an account seems to result in a spin-lock.

Can't wait to see what happens here.

Yeah, I'm watching the server logs and 'spin-lock' seems pretty accurate...sorry about that. I made some last-minute, untested changes to the registration/login stuff and it's clearly not working properly.

Thanks man, I'm excited to play around with this. I'm happy to keep testing as needed. Toss me a PM or update here once I should test again.
