Weekly 'Suggest a Recipe for my Flavors' Thread - Week of October 10, 2014
submitted almost 11 years ago by AutoModerator

Got a bunch of flavors but not sure how to make them work together? Post your list here, and our team of semi-professional mixologists will make suggestions for you! If you are impatient and want to do this on your own, here are a couple of good links:

  • /u/daath has a nice website that has this functionality, but you will need to register to make it work. It is not very intuitive but if you work with it you can input your flavors and get a list of recipes that you can make. IMO this is the better site if you have the patience to make it work for you. Edit2: to get this to work, first set up an account. Then add your flavors to the stash (under my page / my flavor stash). hit save. Then go back to the front page and click the link next to the search field, "Search by flavor stash". You can select a couple of your flavors and recipes that have those will pop up.
  • This site has a nice big search button with just what you're looking for.

Happy Mixing!

Hmmm... I would maybe try a banana nut bread, double chocolate, and maybe irish cream flavor. I've not tried banana nut bread or irish cream, so you'll probably want to tweak things.

  • 3% Irish Cream
  • 2% Double Chocolate
  • 5% Banana Nut Bread

I have no idea how that will turn out, so let me know!

I just mixed this up. I'm letting it breathe for a few then I'm gonna give it a try. Depending on the taste I might throw it in the crock pot. Will post back with the results!

How did it turn out? If I was a betting man I'd bet that the Irish Cream was a tad strong, but I'd love to know your thoughts.

15% FW Vanilla custard. Forget about it for about 3 months. It smells like cleaner or something and tastes terrible forever but at some point it gets really delicious in that hard to put down kinda way

Interesting. I had made a custard and thought that. It's been sitting for a while now I'll give it another try and see if it got better.

I'd try to make an Amaretto Chocolate. I've never used any of these flavors, so take this with a grain of salt.

Amaretto as the base flavor, some Almond, maybe Nut Mix to make the nuttiness pop more. Since the only chocolate you have is the Double Chocolate, that and maybe some Vanilla Custard to add some creaminess. You could use EM to sweeten if you think it needs it.

Cool I'll try this.

Would you have recommendations on percentages? I know that amaretto stand alone is recommended at 7% and almond at 3%. As a mix I'm not sure especially if I'm adding two more flavours...

I've never used any of the flavors I suggested, just trying to give some ideas on what to try out. But if Amaretto as a standalone is 7 and almond is 3, maybe 6 and 1. You'd have to experiment and see where you find the right balance.

Sorry I can't be more specific, just attempting to help get the creativeness going.

All my flavors are TFA.

Blueberry (wild)
Cantaloupe
Honey
Lemon
Mango
Passion Fruit
Pomegranate
Ripe Banana
Strawberry (ripe)
Watermelon
Blue Raspberry (so far I find this utterly disgusting and could use some help making it work)
Coconut
Grape Juice
Peach (juicy)
Pear
Apple
Cinnamon
Double Chocolate (clear)
Ginger Ale
Green Tea
Hibiscus
Kentucky Bourbon
Menthol
Orange Cream
Peppermint
Sour
Ethyl Maltol
Koolada
Citric Acid

I've recently been experimenting with a Whiskey Sour with Kentucky Bourbon, Sour, and EM, but I don't have the percentages right. Also experimenting with a Green Tea/Hibiscus with honey at 10% Green Tea, 2% Hibiscus, and 1% Honey. It's earthy, but not where I want it.

I love fruit mixes, but want to branch out a bit.

Thanks!

I would do something like Kentucky Bourbon, Ripe Banana, and Double Chocolate. On most mixes I use the Kentucky Bourbon I usually do about 1-2% as it gets stronger with aging.

As for the whiskey sour, I'd be sure to include some lemon in there as well as the sour.

One that I've been trying to perfect lately but haven't found anything quite there is a "Purple Cow" recipe. Purple Cows are like rootbeer floats but with grape juice in place of rootbeer. I like the grape juice (usually at about 15-20%), but the ice cream part I've yet to get right. Since you haven't got much in cream flavors, I don't know why I'm telling you this, but hey, I'm this far along, so whatever.

You could always do a Tigers Blood recipe. It's simple and delicious:

  • 1.5% Coconut
  • 12% Strawberry
  • 6% Watermelon

I've made this recipe and it's pretty damn good.

Thanks! I appreciate your input. I've been avoiding the 'custard notes' for now. Eventually I'll give in and expand into the wonderful world of creamies, I just need to do more reading on them first.

Tigers blood sound delicious. I put together a Hobbes blood that I found in one of the recipe threads. Turned out great!

Green tea from TFA is super strong, I find that it just mutes all the other flavors if used over 3-4%. Try:

Green tea 3% TFA Hibiscus 6-8% TFA Honey .5% TFA

To me the TFA honey tastes like cat piss if I use it over .5, but these are just some suggestions :) Kentucky bourbon is a pretty strong flavor too I use it at 2-5% max

Thanks! Hibiscus threw me off a bit, the TFA thread listed it around 1-2%. I'll have to up the percentage and tone down the green tea. The honey does taste like cat piss! But I recently found that if it's given a month or more to cure, it mellows out a lot. Mixed a 10% lemon and 5% honey that tasted horrible. Visited the bottle again after a month and a half and it was delicious.

My first suggestion would be to immediately order more bottles if the 5 you ordered is all you have!

I have like thirty fifteen ml and thirty ml bottles already.

5% Banana Cream 3% Vanilla Swirl 2% Bavarian Cream

For a super creamy banana cream. Could do the same for orange cream but @ 3% Orange Cream.

4% Apple + 3% grape juice + 5% Vanilla Swirl for a creamy grapple.
