I mix my juices at 25/75 pg/vg at 3mg nicotine. I can never seem to taste the flavor when its low at say 5 or 10%.
As everyone else has said here, it comes down to the manufacturer and what flavors are used more often than not.
My suggestion, mix this same combination of flavors @ 60PG/40VG and see if you have the same problem.
Have to identify the problem before the solution.
What flavor manufacturer?
I routinely mix at 20% with TFA flavors, but never that much for a single flavor, of course.
Do you stack flavors percentage wise on top of each other? This is something I've been wondering as I'm very new into mixing, only got 5 flavors myself I'm tinkering with mostly each by themselves. I was under the impression that say you have a peach good around 5 percent, and an apple also good at 5 percent, do you just mix each together at 2.5 percent to total 5? Or you just litteraly stack the totals on top to equal 10 percent flavor? Sorry if that makes no sense, I'm almost sure I'm overthinking it.
Haha yeah you're over thinking it. I don't do anything nearly that precise because different flavors play together differently.
Any sort of guideline is just a starting point.
Make some recipes that people have posted and adjust as you like. After you're conformable with that you'll probably be more comfortable making up a recipe.
As with most things in DIY it's down to personal preference. I have juices with very high %'s.(I usually have about 20% for fruits/bakery PG based flavors and use max VG only with 1.5% nic in PG) I would suggest vodka to un mute some flavors in very high % Max VG. (Also acid.)
My mixes are usually 20% or close to 20% @ 50/50. Some flavorings are stronger than others. if you give more details you can probably get more insight.
I have a Honey Tobacco from Nude Nic that tastes way overpowered with anything over .75 %, it's crazy. Do you find tobacco juices that powerful need to steep for longer than others?
What I am rocking this at 12 percent, but it tastes like brownies haha no wonder.
I like to taste my juice also. There is nothing wrong with flavors that high but just work up to it. Some flavors will become perfumy of muted at higher percentages. If the flavors your mixing taste good to you at a higher % then that's what you will enjoy. There is no set rule in DIY just make what you enjoy.
It depends on the flavor. For me, I like strong flavors in general. I usually fall somewhere in the 15%-20% range. You're not going to hurt anything by experimenting, though. (Now back to my hybrid banana cream/coconut cream (10% each, BTW) I made last night. It's delicious.)
20% is pretty high for me, and probably as high a percentage as I'd ever go now that I've been mixing for a while. Adding more flavor can sometimes actually make your juice taste less like the flavor you're using, and age, mechanical or heat agitation can make a big difference. I personally don't really like using flavors that require such high percentages, but when I do I just lump the flavoring in with the PG percentage, so since I mix mine at 70/30, it actually ends up being 50% PG, 20% flavor and (still,) 30% VG, the reason being that most flavorings are PG or alcohol based and that tends to keep the TH and vapor production where I prefer. Of course not all flavors behave the same...
