Why does mine seem harsher than stuff from my local vape shop?
submitted about 11 years ago by IndianaTrav

When I first started vaping I was a 80% pg and 20% vg at 24 mg nicotine. Now I prefer a 20% pg and 80% vg at 6 mg nicotine. I am using PG and Nicotine (60mg) from wizard labs and VG from essentials depot.

Might want to try Nicotine from Nude Nicotine or Vaperstek. Others have said that it tastes less peppery and may be more pure.

This. Nude Nicotine has the best. I tasted a big difference when I switched to them. It might just be your flavor %. Let us know what you mixed.

Switching to Nude Nicotine will not decrease throat-hit and wiz-labs nic is not bad. PG adds throat-hit and your using a very high PG percentage.

Cut down on the PG or use an additive like MTS Vape Wizard or TFA Smooth. Just a heads up that these additives do mute the flavor.

20% total PG is not a high PG%. Pretty typical for most drip blends. But, if his flavoring is 20% of total volume, and then he has 20% PG of the remaining 80%, then you would be correct. OP needs to post their recipe for anyone to really be able to address the issue.

Incorrect. Nicotine purity has a lot to do with the "smoothness" of a vape. I've used three different nic sources, all with incredibly varying impact on the same recipe.

I've been hearing a lot about Nude Nicotine I may have to try them out. I bought way too much nicotine and hate to just throw it away though. But live and learn I guess

If you vape tobacco flavors, keep the other stuff around. Sometimes the harshness or peppery flavor works extremely well for tobaccos.

Just do some basic elimination/trouble shooting, or take your nic and toss it down the drain, only to find it was 2 flavors interacting or your vg/pg. Vape pg/vg, ok, add nic, harsh? Add nic to just pg, harsh? Add nic to just vg, harsh? Its the nic! But I did just this and it didn't get harsh till I added flavorS. When you have a problem don't take the lazy route, investigate and discover, that's really the core of DIY anyhow.

I rotate between gummy candy, watermelon, and grape candy typically 15% on the watermelon and gummy and 10% on the grape

Because it's harsher.

...

Seriously, need more information. We don't know what's in your mix or how it's been cured.

I'm really sorry it took so long to respond. I had a very busy weekend. I use a goal of 70 vg 30 pg. I usually make 10ml at a time. typically I use 7ml of of VG .5ml of PG and 1.5ml of flavoring (pg base) and 1ml of nicotine (60ml nic.) So I end up with a 6mg 70/30 mixture

"aging/curing" is a definite factor. If you're talking about stuff that's been pre-made offsite and has been sitting on the B&M shelf for a while, it will definitely seem less harsh than a freshly made DIY mix.

Also, some flavorings contain alcohol: this will increase "throat hit."

I understand. I should have clarified and said juice made moments before I vape it

It could have something to do with your flavor manufacturer. There is a huge difference between TPA and Capella for example.

The stuff at your local B&M might have been sitting there for quite a while and had time to mellow out and mix completely.

With DIY, it's definitely fresh.

I have some max vg juice made with wiz lab nic that is soooo harsh. I'm using rts now, much better.
