TFA is the only flavoring company I use mainly because they disclose this information.
For what it's worth, here's something else I found while looking up their MSDS's.
- Black Sesame Seed Flavor
- Brown Sugar Extra
- Cinnamon Sugar Cookie
- Pie Crust Flavor
All contains Furfuryl Alcohol ( CAS # 98-00-0 ), which is suspected of causing cancer and cause severe irritation.
"A small number of rats also developed nasal cancers at 2 ppm and above. These exposures also caused kidney damage, and a small number of rats and mice developed kidney cancer."

Just google "furfuryl alchol cancer" and you'll get the idea.
I don`t want to alarm you or anything, but anyone interested in those spreadsheets would most likely want to know that too.
Thanks for the list.
Will update those notes accordingly. It's not something I was watching out for at the time I compiled it. I'll have to do some more research tonight!
Did you find anything out about this?
Is my apple pie giving me apple cancer?
All I can tell you is that it's <1% Furfuryl Alcohol in the concentrated flavorings. In my typical recipes, there might be 1% Brown Sugar and 1% Pie crust for my typical pies. Meaning less than 0.02% Furfuryl Alcohol. How that breaks down to PPM, I have no idea.
So you'll find that links to a google doc, so far I've only input all of the data I have from TFA but this at least gives us a baseline of ingredients that contain custard notes.
I'll be putting together CAP's next and then FA and inputting them on a new tab of this spreadsheet.
In Summary: 51 of 214 flavors from TFA contain either Acetoin, Acetyl Propionyl, both, or Butyric Acid.
Enjoy.
Why track Butyric Acid? Did I miss something?
As far as I know aside from a minor irritant there are no warnings for this, am I out of the loop on it?

Inhaled:
No human information available. Vapours or mists probably cause mild to severe irritation, with sore throat, coughing, difficulty in breathing. Severe overexposures may cause lung damage, convulsions, respiratory failure, coma and death.
In contact with skin:
Causes moderate to severe irritation depending on concentration and duration of contact. Application of undiluted chemical to human skin caused mild burning, redness and swelling after 1 hour. Some animal studies indicate that it may be absorbed through skin, causing toxic effects.
In contact with eyes:
Corrosive. Can cause permanent eye damage and blindness (based on animal testing, no human information available).
Ingested:
Oral toxicity appears to be low, based on animal testing. It is corrosive, and may cause severe irritation of the mouth, throat and stomach, with nausea and vomiting. Although there is no human information available, the physical properties of this substance indicate that aspiration of even a small amount during ingestion or vomiting could cause pulmonary edema, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest and death.

Better to Acknowledge it than not IMPO.
Sure, be aware that some of that is way overemphasized. Your stomach acid contains Butyric acid, people aspirate that often and while some die, it's from drowning, not the Butyric acid.
Good info to have in any event, though I feel like we're rapidly approaching the point where we're going to have to have a warning on everything that is made with any flavor at all.
I really wish the FDA had chosen to start testing the stuff we're using for inhalation hazards rather than wasting all that money on trying to whip up bad pseudoscience and create anti vaping propaganda shell groups to justify basically banning vaping.
Yeah no shit @ the FDA. Either way, I think if we as a community actively name the potential harmful ingredients in our Vape juice (similar to FDA booklets on cig packs now) it will at the very least benefit the community if not giving us a head start on future FDA regulation.
Great work, thanks.
