AAAANNNDDD the winner of our x2 250mL nicotine base giveaway is /u/squired!!

"I wish everyone would start DIYing this year and look forward to helping /r/diy_ejuice continue to grow. I liken it to learning how to cook. Cooking gives one a greater appreciation for food in general and offers us all millions of recipes to play with and enjoy both inside the home and when dining out. I hope we continue to open-source the basics this year (similar to standardized base recipes in the cooking world) so everyone can hit the ground running when they get into the hobby. We've already made enormous strides and the community is growing monthly. I can't wait to try all the new recipes we come up with together in the months and years to come. In fact, the next 'blockbuster recipe' is likely to come from someone who doesn't even know diy ejuice exists today!"

Thank you for being the one to look forward and help us grow this community! We really do appreciate ya :) Look for a PM in your inbox so we can gather some info.

Wanted togive a couple shoutouts though, /u/Solus420 I read your post on the air last evening on myvapeon.tv show - definitely shed a tear for u bro :)

"About 2 Weeks ago i was chasing my son around the house, and after about a minute or 2 of playing with him i was down in the floor coughing and wheezing. When i looked up my son had the most frightened look on his face. It was that day i decided to quit smoking. Its been 4 days now since i have had a smoke thanks to Vapeing, and have plans to start doing everything about vapeing my self. Already i have Vanilla Cinnamon and Coffee flavors extracting, and have plans for many more. The main goal is to be able to Vape and be completely self sustaining in doing it. And in doing so live longer for my kids. Being a stay at home dad with 2 kids, wining this would be extremely helpful so hopefully i can win , but either way Thanks so much for the chance and Good luck to everyone!"

And to /u/muranternet for the awesome story! I'm passing this one around the lab with lots of chuckles. Don't EVER go through with this aformented dick recipe :P

As a thank you for everyone participating so kindly in this giveaway, let's leave a 10% coupon site-wide for everyone to use! Type in the code LShanaTovah10 for 10%-off your entire cart until midnight tonight (PST).

I appreciate you running this giveaway and will be sure to let the community know how I find the nic. Looks like the New Year is going to be great!

Also, please feel free to offer /u/Solus420 the second aliquot, I'd love to have a new fellow mixer in our community and look forward to hearing about his extract adventures!

Looking back through my emails, I think /u/NudeNicotine may have shipped via pm before reading my reply here (they were crazy fast, I got the tracking email within an hour).

I'd love to make a deal with you though. Promise to post up your current extract attempts in the future (successful or not), get your kid some candy/ice cream, and I'll send the second bottle (60mg PG-based) your way when I receive it. :)

pm your address if it's a deal.

So touched reading that. Just remember, it gets easier with time, especially once you get good at mixing things that you like. I could never go back to smoking. My dad still smokes socially and keeps trying to hand me one, I take a single drag, get a putrid look on my face, hand it right back and have no desire to go out and buy a pack anymore like I used to.

GOOD LUCK! Save your own life to provide better for theirs!

I have this friend who's been smoking longer than I have (25+ years). He tried vaping once, but since the only shop near him was this awful smoke shop that carried rebranded FeelLife crap liquid he didn't stick with it. Having had said liquid I don't really blame him. I've had to boil more than one clearo just to get the "taste" out.

I called him a while ago. "I've gotten into e-liquid mixing. I have some things you might like."

"Leaded or unleaded?" (The FL liquids he bought tasted like gasoline.)

"No you jerk. Do you still have your e-cig?"

"Hang on." rummage "I guess. The tank thingy looks pretty funky."

"Wash it out with water and let it dry for a day or two. Actually, boil it for 10 minutes. Actually, FU I'll send you some of mine. And charge that battery."

"Christ."

I had a few recipes dialed in by then, including some unusual flavors like barrel bourbon and absinthe I figured he would like as an unrepentant drunk. When he got them I had to get on Skype to remind him how to fill a CE4 (that's how long it's been). He was smoking the whole time. Once everything looked like it worked, I signed off since he was about to eat and I figured he wouldn't be tasting much of anything until that happened.

Two days later, he calls me. "This bourbon shit isn't bad. What is it like Maker's Mark?"

"You can't pour bourbon into an e-cig," I told him, knowing if I didn't he might try exactly that. It's not that he's dumb, just he knew it would probably piss me off if he did and was therefore worth the risk.

At the time he liked the bourbon because he, well, liked bourbon, and the absinthe because it's a real punch-you-in-the-face recipe that got through his smoker's tongue. Within two weeks he didn't like the absinthe so much and started liking the fruits and desserts a little more, which was okay since it meant his palate was changing around. I made him promise to go into the smoke shop and stand there, vaping my DIY, as belated revenge. After I'd mailed the liquid off he told me he'd already done that, while browsing their selection, pointing to each liquid and saying, "Crap... crap... total crap...". And he did it while using a dripper. He's a dick.

"Hey I bought some liquid from XXXX and YYYY and they taste like watery... water," he told me on Skype. He wasn't smoking. "Someone told me ZZZZ makes a decent bourbon but it's really expensive. Is it any good?"

"I like mine better, but whatever. You can buy from whomever you want."

"Are... are you breaking up with me?" What a dick.

In the end he wanted to try mixing himself. I gave him some recipes and instructions and links. "Oh hey look, it's Reddit. The place where you can find great information if you're willing to sift through mountains of crap and ads disguised as posts," he said.

"Yeah, welcome to the interwebs."

He's in that stage now where he fills his online shopping cart, looks at it, leaves it alone, clears it the next day and starts again, etc. I'm not doing this for profit and we're both poors, but he did ship me some cash to cover my shipping and mixing costs (I immediately blew it all on flavor concentrates, of course). One day he's going to pull the trigger, and then I'll have a problem.

He's one of those annoying people who gets intensely interested in something and instantly becomes great at it. Today he's asking me about maximum flavor percentages and pH control. In a couple of weeks he's going to be lecturing me on exploiting polar bonding in glycerol and making fun of me for doing single-indicator titration. And his mixes will be amazing.

What a dick.

Thanks to my nephew, I have been cigarette free since the beginning of the month, and placed my order for DIY ingredients yesterday.

Flashback to December, 2013. After watching a few videos on YT, and doing a lot of reading on ECF, I made a decision that I was going to make my quit date the 10th, my 40th birthday. My lovely wife gave me the money to buy my Vamo V5, some juices I thought I would like, and some cartomizers. I wasn't disappointed with the juice I got, some were good, others not so good. But the damn appeal of the tobacco kept calling me. I acquiesced, and picked up the Camel Menthols again, and when I lit up, it tasted like I was licking an ashtray. I was so disheartened, and disappointed in myself for not being able to kick the habit... or so I thought.

Fast forward to the last week of August, 2014. My nephew asked me if I was still into vaping. I told him I still had some stuff, and that I really haven't looked back into trying again. He told me that there had been a lot of changes in gear, and vendors, and that the gaining momentum of vaping as an accepted and viable alternative to smoking was steadily increasing. He recommended some reputable vendors, and made some suggestions for an RDA and mech mod.

I wound up getting clones (RDA and mech mod), along with some new cartomizers, and when I started building my own coils, I realized that I finally found the portion of the equation that was missing: my ingenuity. I love working with my hands, and have thoroughly enjoyed trying different builds, all the while experimenting with different juices... even the ones that my nephew concocted.

Last week, I was able to visit with him, and be a sommelier for his mixes. He told me that he was waiting for some samples from your company, and would give them a try when he made his next 'Chef's Special' for me. Version 1.0 wasn't very good... we both agreed that the bottle smelled like cat food! However, I'm currently vaping on Chef's Special v2.0, and enjoying the nuances of flavor that my palate had long since been numbed by cigarette smoke.

It's taken me a few weeks to determine what flavor profiles that I like, and I'm really looking forward to DIY, I'll be honest; I did look at your website last night. Unfortunately, I didn't order anything, because I placed my first DIY order for supplies the morning prior. But, I will be ordering from NN in the future! L'Shana Tovah!

Well I just recently jumped into the DIY fun but I have managed to get both my girlfriend and brother into it. Actually it helped me get my brother into vaping in general (now I just wish he would learn the time and place to fog up a room lol).

Anyhow I love your Nic and VG, I have only placed two orders so far but the 100mg Nic has been flawless. I do wish however y'all had answered my email requesting some sample flavors :(

Boker tov! While being extremely new to DIY, my entire family is already vaping on some blends that I whipped up on my birthday. I sent my father home with a bottle of 18mg menthol and my mother with a small bottle of zero nic Shirley Temple. They both thoroughly enjoy them!

My best friend and I have already been sharing ideas, and I haven't vaped anything but what I've made. DIY is love, DIY is life. Thank you for providing me with such wonderful products as well as this opportunity.

I have not be into DIY that long but it has help cut me and my wife down from 12 mg to 6 mg and I have made juices for a few friends. Its not a large number but the more base I have the more I can make and the more friends and family I can help out in there time of need.

Wow does that hammer home with me. I still regularly taste test juices at my local B&M even if I never buy them anymore. One of the happiest moments I think of my time I've been DIY'ing are those when I'm in the vape shop, I try a new juice, and I instantly know every ingredient and half the time even which vendors it's from.

The 'I see what you did there' moment is just sooooo fun and so rewarding as it always sparks new ideas in my head.

by squiredabout 11 years agoMixologist

Absolutely. I am completely self sufficient these days, but that just makes it even more fun to test and buy others' juice. It is also nice that I now can buy expensive juices, here and there, without the sticker shock. It's like going out for a nice dinner with the wife and broadening your horizons, maybe even talking with the chef or owner, vs. eating at Chipotle 5 nights a week.

My brother's birthday is coming up and I think I'm going to get him a 6 month subscription to some juice service. That way we'll get to try an even wider range of juices and then riff off our favorites. :)

Btw, thanks for all the work you put into this sub, I've greatly benefited from it personally. I love /r/diy_ejuice and how we're able to push each other and raise the bar for everyone cooperatively. It's amazing how far we've come in just a ~year. Here's to a "New One"!

Just wanted to say that you guys are truly awesome!

Anyway, I took up vaping to try to be a good model for my mother and to learn as much as I can in order to help make her transition away from smoking as easy as possible. I'm starting to dabble in DIY in order to build a flavor that she absolutely loves and will keep her away from cigarettes. Also getting into it in order to make it as cheap as possible for her to enjoy.

As someone relatively new to DIY juice, but a maker at heart, I have found myself geeking out pretty hard with this new hobby. I've spent many a night so far brainstorming and mixing up different concoctions. Very recently, I've started to feel like I have some decent creations and have started passing them out to friends to sample and provide feedback. In the new year, I'm super excited to take this further, trying to incorporate the desired tastes of a larger group of people instead of feeding into my personal likes and dislikes.

I jumped into DIY about 6 months ago for two reasons.

First, buying vendor liquid is just too damn expensive! I vape. A lot. Spending 40 bucks a week on 60ml of liquid was MORE expensive than smoking. So I figured I'd give DIY a shot, and am loving it.

Second, my fiancee dislikes most flavors that she buys. She was buying 2-6 flavors a week to find an ADV and could never find one until I made her a strawberry, pear, pinapple, watermelon concoction a month or so ago. I've made her about 50ml of it since then and not one drop has been left unvaped.

As an aside, I just made 90ml of liquid with all your bases (nic, pg, vg) and some with the coffee creme and white chocolate raspberry. Dear god. Can't wait til my RDA gets here!

Thanks for what you guys do!

Awesome you guys are doing this give away. I've helped my wife and my mother-in-law quit smoking. They never run out of juice and I can make them pretty much what ever they want. I've also helped a few people realize that there's better juice out there than the gas stations and local shops. I'm proud to be going into my first new year, with my wife, smoke free. Plus I've saved a lot of money with DIY.....kinda. There's always new flavors to try. Thanks again!

I'm actually entering this contest as a non diyer but I've had interest for a while.

I have been buying liquid and saving the bottles because I know I want to get into diy, I just can't afford the initial investment (I only get twenty dollars a week and it usually goes to juice for that week).

I have gotten many people off of cigs introducing them to vaping however and I would love to be able to supply my family with my own made juice because they are having rough times too. (Sister just got laid off, mother has had a severe drop in income).

Thanks for the giveaway from someone looking to begin diy!

My ability to supply free juice samples to my neighbors because of my DiY has taken a smoker of 35 years to be nearly analog free in just the past month (man I can't get her to give them up entirely, but a few a day is a lot better than 2 packs a day!).

Much love for Jake and the NN crew!

I work for a relatively small health information technology company, with many former smokers who are now vapers. I decided to share the wealth one day and come up with ADVs for as many people as I can. I don't charge them for it either. It's fun and it makes them happy, so that's payment enough for me. L'Shana Tovah!

Sweet very nice to see another giveaway from Nude Nicotine. I have been into DIY now for maybe only 6-7 months and have made quite a few nice juices. I converted a guy at work over to vaping and he vapes nothing but my concoctions. Between him and my niece and a few friends that all love my conversion to a mad scientist, vape store bought no longer. Thanks to alot of people here for ideas and tips it has helped in the laboratory of Home Brew :) Thanks to all at the NN labs for creating such an awesome product for all of us want to be mixologists to use. Just over a 18 months ago, I got into vaping. I stocked up on basic gear and bought premium juice. I figured that since I'm short on money, making a big (for me) commitment out of the gate would force me to quit smoking if I could.

It worked.

I got my girlfriend in to it too. She quit smoking as well.

I stuck with the more expensive liquid, coupon hunting to get the total down to 50 cents/ml.

After about 9 months of vaping, I got into DIY because I'm still short on cash and particular about my flavors. This has kept us off the cigs and in juice (mostly).

I have a few really solid mixes, some decent simpler flavors, and a lot of failures that I've vaped anyway.

I've been trying to get my girlfriend into DIY, but so far, she's not interested in doing it. But she has very strong opinions about what mixes need to be available. ;-)

I have shared my Key Lime Pie with an acquaintance who smokes. She says it's delicious.

I have a friend whose one of those guys who smokes, but doesn't admit it to himself. He just happens to buy just one pack because of stress or some other excuse most of the time. Other times, he chews lots of nicotine gum or buys disposable cigalikes. Every time I'm around, he tries whatever I have with me. Usually, he thinks it's really good. He's going to be my roommate next month, and I want to make sure there's always plenty to vape around.

I've also been working on my brothers. I vape in front of them whenever I see them, and explain what flavor I've made and how it's ruined smoking for me.

Every time I go out I vape conspicuously. People often ask me about it and I tell them as much as I can. They often express concerns about what mystery/dangerous chemicals are in it. They usually change their minds when they find out I made it myself and know exactly what's in it, and can explain what the ingredients are and where they came from.

I really want to stock up on starter kits and make up sample packs of my DIY juice for the smokers in my life.

I'm not looking to go into business. I've given away a greater volume of juice than the amount of vendor juice I could have bought for my DIY expenses. But I do tend to run my supplies to empty before restocking (no VG or menthol crystals at the moment).

p.s.:

I just tried the NN nic sample for the first time today. It's cheaper and better than the WL I was using before. And between the batch GC/MS and the fact that you've actually rejected shipments not up to your standards, you'll be getting my business in the future.

I recently gave a buddy all my old gear, including a butt-load of all my high nic vendor juice from my early days. He has nic'd himself enough now that he is ready to step down. The other night he came over, and tried some of my lower nic DIY and loved it, so I gave him about 60ml. Well, he says he has found his ADV, which I have to brag about because HOW COOL??? So happy to help out a buddy, and I told him I would show him how to mix it himself. Teach a man to fish... Thanks guys, you rock.

Been DIYing for about 2 months now, absolutely love it. I had been bumming juice non-stop from my buddy who was also broke but had lots of juice. Finally saved up enough for a juice order but decided against a mbv order and instead did a bunch of research and ended up going with DIY. So far I've made a few recipes I really enjoy, and make some for my girlfriend that she really enjoys. Got the girlfriends coworkers to switch to vaping and I've been making them juice and rebuilding their coils to keep them from going back to smoking. Gonna have my buddy I used to bum juice from come over so I can teach him how to DIY too.

2 points

by squiredabout 11 years agoMixologist

That's too cool. Your buddy is going to get a hell of a "return on that juice investment"!

One of my favorite benefits of diy ejuice, once you're all set up, is that you're basically set on juice for what feels like free. If your buddy likes a recipe, you can whip up a 50ml in nothing flat for the cost of a beer at the pub.

Pro-Tip: I have a mess load of 10ml bottles, but don't keep larger sizes on hand regularly. So my brother will often bring over a "shot bottle" (usually 50ml) of a something nice or weird for me to 'trade'. It's actually often cheaper, or close enough, to buying nice glass online and a hell of a lot more fun. ;)

p.s. Just be sure to mark the bottle....

I have been DIYing for a few months now and finally got my Brother to try vaping as a means to quit smoking. Money is tight for him so I've "loaned" him my evod starter kit and gave him some of my DIY to use with it. So far he's cut his smoking from 2 to 1 pack a day in less than 2 weeks and looking to buy his own gear. In return I get opinions on my concoctions and a reason to try different ideas. I figure once I get him (and his wife) totally converted I'll start on my other Brother. :P

I have friends that like my mixes they give me money to buy them the bases and flavorings to make them big batches, converted my mother and 3 uncles and a few friends. its fun i get to play with flavorings and make new mixes. also mixing the flavors has helped in my silly hobby of candy making.

I barely got my supplies from you guys this week, and already made a few batches. The batches I made still need some steeping but were shaken with great success. I have two co-workers who tried what I made and love it, they had fallen out of vaping due to the cost of B&M juice prices (most places here are $1/ml).

Hopefully they ask me for advice on how to proceed on their own or just donate for supplies, since I haven't charged them for anything yet.

I have two friends, a married couple, who were pack a day smokers for more than ten years. They both have successfully quit for about 6 months now. One of the "issues" with vaping for them is x2 the cost for juice and cartomizers. I got my friends into foggers eliminating the cost of cartomizers. Now I am trying to get them into DIY. I have shared some of my DIY juices and they are excited about getting into it.

Sorry for the late reply! Back in the office after the holiday. Our second lucky winner is /u/BeardedMurse, picked personally by my (Jake's) rabbi who visited for dinner last evening. Shanah Tovah from us all! PM sent :)

Thanks so much everyone for participating. Lovely to see your altruism to friends in their vaping journeys. It's a pleasure to know there are REAL people behind these reddit curtains.

One of my co-workers got me (back) into vaping. He wasn't even trying, but just seeing how much he liked his setup convinced me to say fuck combustion for good. To repay him I mix a 15ml of juice a week for him. Sometimes more. I rarely mix for anyone else, but I make damn sure that he gets his weekly fix.

My DIY experience has yet to prove special for anyone else, I bought 50ml of good quality nicotine base but haven't purchased any flavorings. The guy I talked with before I ordered said he was gonna hook me up but I guess there was some miscommunication cuz I ended up goin through 50ml in it's birthday suit. I know right? Oh well, it's given me more time to read up on other folks successes and failures and I found an odorless tasteless nic base to add to in the future. If I'm fortunate enough to be a winner I'm gonna work on some flavors to get my brother and sister off the stinkies and keep content myself on the cheap. Gut Yuntiff and Happy Jew Year.
