is my friend really spending $800.00 to make 1 gallon of juice?
submitted about 11 years ago by acexprt

He is claiming he spends $800.00 to make one gallon. He sells juice at work and a lot of people are buying it . I think it tastes pretty bland. I think he is bullshitting everyone claiming to be selling premium juice.

I spent 450$ to make over 15 gallons, and 300$ for 1000 glass bottles, all shipped to new zealand from various places. This guy is classic full of shit ego vacuum material.

I knew there was no way he could be doing it. He asked me if I wanted to invest 500 dollars. I told him is rather start myself because I though it would be cheaper. He claims is Pg and Vg are premium medical grade, whatever that means.

For the most part all VA and PG are produced by the same people.

Pg and vg are so cheap! He isn't using anything better than anybody else. Buy your own stuff, it sounds like he's looking for a profit there.

The nic is the expensive stuff. I just ran some number through the sheet I use to calculate cost and mg mixes, and I could make a gallon of nana-clone at 3mg for under $250. If I wanted to be stupid and make 48mg/ml nana-clone in a gallon it would cost over $400.

My spreadsheet broke though because I use 48mg/ml solution, so it told me my weight was all nic, and the amount of VG to add was negative. oi.

May I ask where you get your bottles from. I'm in Australia and I can't seem to find many for a good price like that.

He's either incredibly bad at shopping around for his supplies, or he's lying.

I figured he was lying. The sad thing is he converted so many people here to start vaping. He has continuously tried ripping people off. He wanted to buy my vamo 5 for 20 bucks so he could sell it for 80. These people buying his juice have probably never tried any other juices.

I don't know any DIYers who make allon batches. Whats he charge for 30ml and what's his packaging like?

He charges 5 bucks for 15ml. He has random bottles every time. No labeling.

Random bottles = shit, but $5/15ml is about MBV pricing on 15ml units before discounts. Well below a lot of boutique vendors.

E: Of course even MBV doesn't give you random bottles.

Good friends $5 30 mil. Aquatintists $12.

Maybe if you count fixed costs, overpriced flavoring and dilutants, glass dropper bottles (bought by the dozen instead of a case) and really nice labels. 1 gal is about 128 30ml bottles, so $6.25/unit. If he spent $400 on stuff like mixing hardware, fixtures, stirring plates, experimentation losses, or whatever then it's possible for the first gallon ($3.13/unit after fixed costs).

Just like pharmaceuticals. First pill cost a billion dollars.

Nope he is saying every gallon he produces costs $800.00. He is an idiot.

If he actually pays $800 for raw materials then yes.

So how is this guy your friend? He sounds like a douchebag that needs to be punched in the throat.

He is my supervisor. He's alright when he isn't lying out his ass.

I worked it out for a friend who was wondering how much that would cost in just supplies. I worked it out, and for one flavor @ 15%, a 30/70 pg/vg mix at 12mg/ml, and it came to just under $300, and that wasnt even going for the cheap suppliers.

I used my spreadsheet and with lower quantity prices (LA in 1oz, TFA in 4 oz, not the 16oz or larger sizes) I still come out to $278 to make a gallon of 6mg. Under $250 for 3mg.

The nic is the expensive stuff. At 18mg the price is $400/gal.

Playing devils advocate here but did anyone consider that he actually accounts for his time in that $800? I don't ever discount my time as I do a lot of freelance work... If something costs me 10 dollars in materials, but takes me two hours to make, it cost me 60 dollars, and that's what I'll tell you if you ask me.

If you're making a gallon of juice one 15ml bottle at a time, thats a lot of time... at 5 minutes per bottle that's 21 hours... That's $525 in labor alone.

All that said, if his juice sucks then don't buy it. Just remember that free time isn't free.

He is claiming the juice costs 800 liquid materials. Pg, vg, Nic, flavor.

Fair enough. That's easy enough to prove wrong.

It doesn't matter what it costs him to make it. quit being a douche, buy it or don't.

Make your own.

It costs time to make it and effort deal with people who are buying it and complaining about pricing.
