Is it just me, or is TFA Pear the swiss army knife of fruits?
submitted about 11 years ago by s33plusplus

I mean, seriously, I burn through more pear than anything else, and it's not always a primary note. It really backs most other fruits incredibly well, and in particular it adds huge amounts of body to otherwise "flat" or really subtle flavors (for example, LA blueberry or watermelon).

What do you folks think?

TFA Pear is nice because it provides a light base and cuts the candyishness of most fruit concentrates so they can be ADVs. It's weird on its own.

Yeah, that's exactly it. I can't stand it solo, but even the best fruit flavors I've got taste really fake (like cheap candy) on their own as well.

I just add some Pear, and BAM! Problem solved. It's actually replaced EM in my ADVs because it adds that "fruitiness" to the mix.

Agreed with this 100%. It definitely cuts out the extra sweetness/candy tones that are found in most fruit flavors. I used a ton of it my first few months of DiY, now I rarely use more than .5% in any recipe.

Oddly enough one of the first things I tried was a high percentage Honey Peary clone with 8% HD and 8% Pear, both crazy strong flavors but I think it takes that much pear to calm the HD down. I also use Pear as a base element (6% or something) in a 10-fruit mix I like. Binds everything together really well but I think I might cut it down a bit since it punches through the softer fruits.

I might give it a shot in my holy grail Torte recipe which includes a sweet raspberry that won't shut the hell up.

Not unlike real pear juice, which is used in a whole shit load of super market fruit juices.

I think for myself, that TFA Strawberry ripe, is my most popular flavor enhancer/balancer. Closely followed by Pear. One of them ends up in the majority of my mixes.

One of my favorite mixes is primarily TFA Pear and CAP Sweet Strawberry. I'll add peach, dragonfruit , or watermelon depending on what I want when I mix my batches. It's a simple variation of the Honey Pearry clone, but it works amazingly well.

I guess I have a weird pallet, but I get tons of "stale" notes from TFA Pear. I see its very popular here, so ot may just be me.

Pear really enhances apple flavors tremendously in small amounts. I actually got the idea because I add a pear to my apple pies to tone down the tartness of the apple and enhance the flavor when I bake an apple pie, and it works in eliquid flavoring as well in the same manner.

Yeah, that's what my hunch is; take a look at a bottle of actual apple juice, it's got a ton of pear juice in it. I thought it was purely filler to cut down the apple used, but it seems to be a deliberate flavor thing.

I hear that tfa apricot does wonders in a mix at small amounts .. Still to try for my self... Will have to try pear in a few mixes see it it can fix my failed attempts... Makes me wonder what other flavours do more to a mix just like pear and apricot...

I've done this. I really like TFA Apricot. It's a bold flavor and I add it in small amounts (0.25% to 0.75%) and it adds something without standing out. When I want it to stand out, I use 1-2%.

I've purchased more tfa pear than anything - it's just a great flavor to go with so many things.
