Not just deserts?

I've been working on, exceedingly slowly, a small review of some off beat flavors. Taking one of them out of that review and posting about it separately real quick.

Cactus, from Inawera. Any time I place an order for flavor, there is always at least one more added in as my "why the hell not" addition. This last one was cactus. Had no idea what I would do with it when I ordered but I like a nice adventure in mixing. I figured it might be similar enough to use instead of a melon flavor.

Holy hell is this a juicy flavor. At a 5% mix you can all but feel it dripping down your chin. It is very sweet, but not overpoweringly so. Not a saccharine sweet, nor anything like ethyl maltol. It also finishes with a slightly darker, greener note. Not too far off from how aloe smells, but it isn't strong.

As for how I'm planning on using it? Citrus, definitely. This + fa orange? Pretty sure that is going to be one delectable orange. Have a kiwi and cactus + berry mix stepping as I speak. I can also see it doing quite well with banana, peach, apricot and melons. I'll try it with strawberry, black berry and raspberry, but not sure how well it will play with those three.

As for those curious...

I definitely have done experiments incoming soon. My 10ml bottle won't last too long, though...

Thanks for posting your findings. I've been really interested in the off-beat flavors as well to spice up some recipes I have in mind. I'll have to give this a try on my next order.

Never be afraid of trying something odd and random. Every time you order flavors, always get at least one extra one that just jumps out at you to experiment with.

IW Cactus tastes pretty much just like cactus... kind of aloe-like if you haven't eaten it. Not bad, but not great. It's a good complimentary flavor but prepare to be underwhelmed.

Yeah, it definitely isn't a main flavor. But finding another accent for fruits aside from some cream is always good in my book.

I'll probably end up doing the other flavors as individual posts over time, unless you think a single larger post would be better.

Nah individual posts is just fine.

Sounds good, didn't want to make it to be too much work for you to update the list. I have a couple serous odd ball flavors. Like black sesame... Still slightly afraid to do a single note mix of that one...
