Read this before you ever think of sending you juice to others
submitted almost 11 years ago by kirktBring on the Diacetyl, baby

We just had a 16 year-old volunteering to taste our creations (thread was deleted); nice detective work by one of our readers hopefully stopped this before any damage was done.

I have sent out juice to people I've never met in person, and in each instance I have required they send me a photo of their license (with anything blacked out they didn't want to share). This isn't going to completely prevent the underaged from getting nicotine juice, but is better than blindly shipping to someone you've never met and who might be trying to scam you.

Think this isn't a big threat? What if that kid's parents don't want him vaping, and a box of your juice shows up with his name on the front and yours in the corner? Now what if selling nicotine to minors is illegal where he lives - you think those parents might notify police? Or what if they decide they'd like a tropical vacation and want you to foot the bill - think they might call a lawyer?

Don't be stupid, people. This is the internet and on the internet no one even knows I'm a dog. We're a tight community and a great subreddit, but that doesn't mean there aren't some wolves among the sheeple.

*Edit "you juice". sigh... When will Reddit allow us to edit titles?

why not just send your tasters zeroMG juice?

12 points

by Bigfrostynugsalmost 11 years ago

There are still possible legal ramifications to that. 0mg juice could still be considered a 'tobacco' product in a lot of places.

A good lawyer could get you somehow.

by steadyvapesalmost 11 years ago

Ejuice has no official/legal designation, sending 0mg would be 100 percent safe, and NO ONE could sue you (and win) over it.

You're sending them artificially flavored hand cream.

by lil_jimmy_nortonalmost 11 years ago

That depends on the state. In my state 0mg is treated the same and juice with nic.

>You're sending them artificially flavored hand cream.

You think that's the bulletproof bit that will hold up in court?

2 points

by Roast_A_Botchalmost 11 years agoMentholatier

Nicotine is the only ingredient considered a tobacco product. There are zero regulations on 0mg liquid

0 points

by Bigfrostynugsalmost 11 years ago

Doesn't mean that would hold up in court. In fact all my juices that are 0mg nic still say contains nicotine on the label somewhere even if they don't

That is too rational and logical.

Imagine a freaked out parent to a 12 year old getting the juice, then imagine that freak out quickly turns to anger, that anger makes a call to a local news station. News station loves it because everyone is hating on ecigs now, the local affiliate piece is picked up by a national news program doing a hatchet job on ecigs "sponsored" by Phizer. Now your name is being mentioned and the cops show up at your store. Now you are $5k down for legal fees because the local DA wants to make a name for himself and has a crusade against underage selling of ecig stuff and you become the poster child for irresponsible vaping.

Absolutely stupid? Hell yes, but we both know this is a realistic scenario.

Very good advice. I am still trying to figure out what kind of dog you are...I am leaning Labrador.

This is a mistake. The old post i had was from /r/askseddit and i had said i was 16 because its a little embarrassing to be 18 and still cant handle normal situations with girls. I wanted help without judgment because who laughs at a 16 year old asking for help with girls. Id be more then happy to show proof of ID to anyone sending me juice. Now this accounts a throwaway because of this misunderstanding. I am OP.

Been married for 27 years and I am still completely lost and dumbfounded, but I did manage to create a second one that is harder to understand than her mother. They both agree I am clueless, though.

Just a heads up dude, 32 here, and I don't mind saying that I totally need help with girls. /r/datingadvice is here to help.

30 here and just confirming. And I know plenty of women that need help with men too. No one has it easy.

Thanks:\ it wasnt a big deal. Infact it was nothing until someone read it and got confused of my age.

Don't take this post personally. He's making a point in general - lots of people come here asking for juice to try which, as he said, can be a HUGE problem if they're underage.

This actually makes me genuinely curious about businesses selling juice. Besides the "are you 18?" question upon entering the website, how are most sellers verifying age, if at all? I don't remember plugging anything in that would truly verify my age. Why are more sellers not getting in trouble/sued etc? Or are they and I just haven't heard?

I think that most are just assuming the person buying is over 18, I highly doubt just having a "I am 18 years old or older" pop up window would avoid liability though.

When I have ordered liquor online I had to show ID and sign for the delivery driver once it was delivered. I am sure that's why the shipping was higher, but I think by law for liquor sales valid ID must be shown on delivery.

I think why everyone has gotten away with it so far is either no one has been confronted with a situation, or if they have the parents probably chose not to pursue it any farther. But yeah, I have often wondered about liability too, I'm assuming that when the FDA does regulate and if they will allow online sales it will probably have to be done the same as liquor sales.

Usually you can't get a credit card under 18. If you steal / use your parents' card I guess they really can't guard against this.

*Edit: As many have pointed out, there are ways to get a card to use online. Credit card does not mean 18.

4 points

by crypticthreealmost 11 years ago

If someone uses a credit card without the owners permission, they are committing fraud, and the seller is not at fault regardless of what they're buying.

Don't bank on that.

Debit cards can be had with any checking account and most I've seen can be had at 16 or younger.

-4 points

by fido5150almost 11 years ago

If you're under 18 it will be a joint account since minors cannot sign the paperwork to open the account themselves. Chances are there will be restrictions on debit card usage and withdrawals by the minor party.

> Usually you can't get a credit card under 18.

Nope. You could be 12 or you could be 30, doesn't matter, just walk in to any convenience or grocery store or Walmart/Target/&c, pay ~$5 over face value and walk out with a non-reloadable Visa gift card. No age restrictions to buy one, no personal information required to register, just a zip code if you're gonna buy stuff online.

I had a debit card when I was 14 or so. I've heard of people buying tobacco online under age using this trick.

I had a debit/credit card when I was 16. All you have to do is buy one at walmart.

I have won a couple of contests for free juice. They were from places I had never purchased juice or had an account. They never asked for any proof I was 18 and sent me 6mg juice. It's a good idea to always cover your ass. If someone wants to try your juice for free they should be willing to prove they are old enough.

Be careful about it. Many states require you be 21 to enter tobacco related contests or receive free samples. I got free samples at the state fair in the past and you had to be 21. All of the contests that cigarette companies had in the past or points programs required you be 21 to enter and win. You have to be 18 to buy but there are many other restrictions on tobacco products.

I volunteer! I will taste your juice and I'll do it for free.

by Dickwadshitalmost 11 years ago

I never asked for free juice. I was and still am willing to show proof of Age. I was going to be recieving multiple small bottles from several people and in return was going to provide a very detailed description/review of each flavor. How it taste what it tastes like. Cloud production. Throat hit. In different devices. For Each flavor. It was free juice in exchange for me taking probable close to an hour for each small bottle. Exchange of services. One person was opening up a website and i was going to be writing the flavor description and details for him on the website for each flavor he sent me

Do you have any credentials as a reviewer? There's thousands of YouTubers doing the same thing and only a handful actually do it well.

1 points

by Dickwadshitalmost 11 years ago

No. I will do it to the best of my abilities. If the person is happy with my reviews they will continue to send me product. If they are not, they wont.

Glad the thread was deleted. That was a very dumb thing for anybody to do. You never blindly send something like nicotine to someone you aren't sure of. Nice job Mod's like your work!!

Great advice. I wish more people felt this way. I had a huge argument with another redditor about the same thing. He deemed it okay to send stuff to underage kids considering the legal ramifications would be slim to none against him. Stating that I had shit for brains or something to that degree.

I have juice that I've bought that i'd love to vape forward to people, and some juice I've made that I'd like to vape forward too, but now that the subs are so big and I don't know anyone anymore, I am just hanging onto it here...

Even worse, you have no insurance, so any body could sue you for "harm caused". Who knows what the harm might be, perhaps someone is allergic to peanuts and you use a dash of peanut flavoring in your Banana recipie but since its not a dominent flavor, only an accent, you dont list it. Be cautious.

Oh boo fucking hoo. Vaping is no worse for you than drinking coffee. At least theyre not smoking cigarettes, which are just as easy to get.

Well what you say is true, but I still don't wanna get sued by some rich kids parents.

People-should have just asked me about it it was an easy explanation. Instead everyone thinks im underage and now i will not be receiving diy juices to review and ill have to scrape together some money for a single shitty 15ml. Real good detective work

people lie

>Instead everyone thinks im underage and now i will not be receiving diy juices to review and ill have to scrape together some money for a single shitty 15ml.

So you're complaining because you're not getting free shit? Ok...

1 points

by Dickwadshitalmost 11 years ago

I never asked for free stuff. I asked if any diy mixers would like to send me their favorite flavors they have come up with and in exchange spend about an hour or so per bottle writing reviews. One person was trying to get into selling his juices and said he had just starting up his website and was going to post my reviews on the website. Im not blaming anyone it is My fault but it sucks.

I know. I was going to receive small bottles and return with a detailed description/review and tell about cloud production throat hit etc. But someone said that im 16 and the multiple people who agreed to send me test flavors to try in multiple devices saw and assumed i was 16 and no longer wanted to do it. Its my fault. But it sucks:/
