Supercook for eliquid?
submitted about 11 years ago by GhotiOuttaDHMO

EDIT: Updating this for anyone who might search for this in the future because the answer to this thread's question is that e-liquid-recipes.com recently added this functionality. Just create an account & log in, add the flavors you have to your flavor stash, and click the button that says "What can I make?" - you'll get a list of every recipe in the database that uses only flavors that are in your collection!

Many, many thanks go to /u/daath for providing such a wonderful tool and constantly improving it!

Original post follows:

For those not familiar, Supercook is an index of recipes across a number of sites (e.g. Food.com, Food network, Allrecipes, Epicurious, Cookstr, Martha Stewart, and a lot of others). You plug in what ingredients you have and get a list of dishes you can cook with what you have on hand, each item on the list linking to the source of the recipe.

I've seen a number of collections of eliquid recipes, but none with anything approaching this kind of functionality - from what I've found Googling around, a couple don't even have a search function, only a couple let you search by ingredient at all, and most have a keyword-only search interface. Not to mention the biggest collection of recipes I've found thus far (this sub) only searches the text of the original submission.

I don't know if something like this already exists or not. If it doesn't, my hope is someone with coding experience might take this idea and run with it...

This comment has been noticed. What's your approximate ETA, and can I beta test?

Right now we're working on getting our ordering system working the way it's supposed to. We opened for orders August 1st but the whole thing was messed up because the webapp we went with to host the customization side of the service crashed due to (literally) too many flavors in there.

You can see a sneak peek here but this isn't active on the site yet, it's mostly done and I hope to make an announcement post on Reddit in probably a few hours once I cross all the t's and dot all the i's. http://www.vapecrafter.com/apps/productbuilder/vapecrafter-advanced

The "supercook-like" functionality is something I've wanted since day 1 but it would be integrated with a wiki of sorts -- can't think of a catchy name that isn't taken, maybe vaporpedia? Where you could look up every flavor we carry and it would have the manufacturer's suggested % use of any flavor (and the common consensus on popular DIY boards) as well as compare similar flavors across brands (like the 15 different apples we have in our library, for now). And, of course, a recipe index with search-by ingredients feature. If I had to put a date on this, to be a finished product I could make available to the public, I'd say probably the end of the year, but I could probably get it functional enough for beta by the time the site as a whole starts its beta period, November 1.

Nice! Really looking forward to it, I'll be keeping an eye on you guys!

Edit: If you need anyone to beta test, lump me in with NigelKF there. Don't have tons of free time but I'll gladly make time for a project like this!

Really impressed with how low y our prices are. This will be a good way for me to test out certain juices I want to DiY but don't have a chunk of the flavors for. $10 for a 30ml in Glass with 4 flavors is pretty cool.

Any chance you guys will expand beyond 4 flavors in the future for a price?

Think:

Fruity Pebbles

  • 2% Lemon Sicily (FA)
  • 1% Mandarin (FA)
  • 1% Lime Cold Press (FA)
  • 1.5% Black Cherry (FA)
  • 1% Strawberry (FA)
  • .5% Bilberry (FA)
  • .5% Raspberry (FA)
  • 1.5% Meringue (FA)
  • 1% Vienna Cream (FA)
  • .5% Acetyl Pyrazine (TFA)
  • 2d per 10ml Sweetener (TFA)
  • 1d per 10ml Tart and Sour (TFA)

That's a lot of FA flavors I don't have yet (getting there) but don't want to drop $50 on flavors if I may not even like it...

I'm currently trying to get into contact with the owner of http://www.e-liquid-recipes.com/ to see if he will give me read-only access to the database so that I can code something like that in my spare time - I've been wanting something like this for a long time now.

edit: If anyone knows some other good recipe database sites I should try to get into contact with, feel free to PM me.

This one is decent. A guy from the ECF forums has every TFA recipe posted there.

Dot1ml is my favorite site by far. I'd love to see them bake in this functionality.

Yeah, I mentioned I found a couple that let you search by ingredient (that was one of 'em), but that's not what I'm looking for - more something where I input what flavors I have and it belts out recipes I can make with everything I have on hand.

This does: http://e-juice-recipes.com/ Put in the flavors you have and it gives you all recipes using what you have. Thanks for the down votes ;-)
