Clone Recipe Thread 2: Son of Clone Recipe Thread
submitted almost 11 years ago by kirktBring on the Diacetyl, baby

First thread can be found HERE This thread will be policed for proper content and posts not meeting the criteria will be deleted. That said, here's some rules:

  • Top level posts must be a clone recipe that you have personally made and tasted versus the original juice.
  • Sub-level comments may be suggestions for improvement (e.g., "needs more vanilla") or your own version of the same juice. Comments such as "this is spot-on" will be allowed as others test your recipe.
  • "Contest Mode" is enabled so only top level posts will be seen by default. Be sure to expand sub-posts if you are working on a juice.
  • Please do not create another top-level post for a juice which is already posted in the top level. Add your recipe underneath the top level post.
  • ABSOLUTELY NO requests for recipes. Those types of posts ended up being about 90% of the ECF thread. If you want a clone for Pluid, wait for one to be posted or (better yet) try creating your own clone. Edit: there will now be a monthly clone request thread; you can ask for clone recipes there only.

Recipe formatting should follow these conventions:

Clone of <Juice Name> from <Vendor Name>

<Flavor> (<Vendor>) @ x%
<Flavor> (<Vendor>) @ x%
<Flavor> (<Vendor>) @ x%
<Flavor> (<Vendor>) y drops per z ml

Don't put your Nic, PG or VG in the recipe unless you feel it is necessary for the proper blend. All percentages should be a percentage of the final mix (hint: if they add up to 100% you have done it wrong). If you normally work in ml not %, please use a calculator such as eJuice Me Up to calculate the percentages for your post.

El Kamino by Good Life Vapor

  • French Pipe (TE) @ 5%

What company is TE?

Flavors Express/Tobacco Express, an ECX brand.

1 points

by billgarmsarmyalmost 11 years agoFrugivore

those jerks are all out of french pipe. i wonder what might be similar.

1 points

by Krigaalmost 11 years ago

Supposedly TE and VapingZone's tobaccos are the same source, but can't confirm. Some say there are subtle differences. You'll also pay out the ass. But there's that.

Bro. Found your most recent comment, but holy shit thanks for the furonwang recommendation!

1 points

by billgarmsarmyalmost 11 years agoFrugivore

awesome! i'm glad you like it. i'd definitely be interested in trading recipes that use it. but we should probably move the convo to PMs since it's not really appropriate here.

1 points

by billgarmsarmyalmost 11 years agoFrugivore

this is incredibly close. it smells near exact as i can tell. it tastes close enough for me, but isn't exact. i think you're right about needing to tweak the tobacco ratios.

about 5ml in, i'm starting to detect a slight bitter/metallic aftertaste. it's definitely from the captain or fp. not sure which.

1 points

by Krigaalmost 11 years ago

It does start to take some negative turns with a steep. I get some bitterness, and a fruitiness (not banana) that shouldn't be there. My most recent mix is:

  • 6% Black Mile Plus

  • 4% French Pipe

  • 4% Captain

  • 4% Banana

  • 2% CDS

with a bit of sucralose, 1 drop in 10ml I think. Over a week old now and seems to be holding up a bit better. Still tweaking a bit with every 10ml I go through, let me know if you hit on a good ratio. Thanks for the feedback.

1 points

by billgarmsarmyover 10 years agoFrugivore

i've settled on this:

  • 4% Black Mile Plus
  • 3% French Pipe (this is what was causing the off flavor)
  • 3% Captain
  • 3% Banana
  • 2% CDS
  • 1% CAP Coconut (this is to smooth things out, imparts almost no flavor. takes the edges off the tobacco. almost certainly not present in the original)

been mixing at 70vg/30pg instead of my normal 50/50.

1 points

by billgarmsarmyover 10 years agoFrugivore

you end up settling on a mix? i'm still sort of messing with this combo.

1 points

by Farking_Bastageover 10 years ago

I too, have been trying to get this one right. I've gone heavier on the CDS and lighter on the French pipe to give it a bit more of a bite. It may not be so much of the original, but it's nice in a dripper.

Melon Boba by Good Life Vapor

  • Watermelon (TFA) @ 7%

  • Watermelon (LA) @ 3%

  • Melon Cantaloupe (FA) @ 3%

  • Honeydew (TFA) @ 3%

  • Sweet Cream (TFA) @ 1%

  • Koolada (TFA) @ 0.25 to 0.5% (your preference)

1 points

by Botboy141almost 11 years agoMixing like a mad man...

Any comment on how different this may be if I used TFA Cantaloupe instead of FA? Assuming I'd need to increase the percentage a bit...but not sure on the flavor of FA's cantaloupe in comparison.

1 points

by Krigaalmost 11 years ago

I've avoided TFA's based on negative reviews, so I can't do an A>B comparison. FA's Is a ripe and sweet, strong realistic fruit flavor. If TFA's tastes good to you, give it a shot.

Strength-wise, the cantaloupe should sit just below the watermelon, if not equal. The honeydew sort of loses its identity, but boosts the other two.

1 points

by Botboy141almost 11 years agoMixing like a mad man...

Good to know. I have no problems with TFA Cantaloupe, a lot of people complain of a floral taste to it but it goes away after 3-4 days of steeping in my experience. FA Cantaloupe will make my list of flavors to order on the next batch but need to place a TFA order for Honeydew and some others again first. Huge melon fan here and likely a month or more before I order FA. I'll give it a shot with TFA soon and report back once it's steeped.

1 points

by captaincannibalalmost 11 years ago

Damn. I have a huge clone recipe list I collected and this isn't one that I ever found. Did you make this?

I haven't had the real stuff in a long time but this tastes the way I remember it. Really nice recipe. And it finally gives me a use for TFA Honeydew.

1 points

by Krigaalmost 11 years ago

Yeah, I got lucky with this one... it came together real easy. 3 attempts I think. Thanks for trying it out, I appreciate the feedback.

1 points

by scoopylooalmost 11 years ago

I'm going to try this one. I don't vape sucralose, but I do know that GLV uses sucralose, and sometimes they mix their pg/vg ratio to adjust the flavors in their eliquid. They keep that ratio a secret too.

I have high hopes for this one - melon boba is one of the best liquids I've ever tried, and I can't have it anymore because of the sucralose.

1 points

by Krigaalmost 11 years ago

Would love to hear your opinions on it. I add a bit of sweetener to all my GLV clones except this one, I don't feel it needs it. I also find that PG/VG ratio matters here more than usual. 3% LA Watermelon behaves very differently in high PG than high VG, mostly in a visual way. I make mine with 60% PG, otherwise it looks like it stains everything, and doesn't look like the actual product.

I've read the stories of your dealings with GLV, and I'd just get the warm fuzzies knowing that someone could enjoy one of their favorite juices without winding up in the hospital.

EDIT: Don't forget, it needs 3 days for the cantaloupe to stop being dumb.

1 points

by Bongjamin-Franklinover 10 years ago

Just made this, and it tastes pretty spot on from what I can remember. I used TFA cantaloupe at 1.5% and it tastes great with no steep time.

Clone of Deadly Sin by Good Life Vapor (v2)

  • RY4 Double (TFA) @5%

  • Butterscotch (FW) @5%

  • Cinnamon Danish Swirl (Cap) @5%

  • Sucralose to taste (I used 2 drops per 10ml, or .175%.)

Steep for 2 weeks, or 4 hours at 150F.

This recipe was changed from its original posting. I will move the original clone recipe to a comment below.

As I mentioned in the other thread, this is spot-on. The FW Yellow Cake is the key. Going through ~5mL a day of this.

1 points

by sl0wRoastalmost 11 years ago

Just mixed this up in a 6mg 50/50 blend. after 3 days the cinnamon is really overpowering the other flavours. Have u tried lowering the CDS? Recommended steep time?

1 points

by Krigaalmost 11 years ago

CDS is known to lose some potency over time, and RY4D is good fresh but a lot better after a week or two.

thanks, will give it 2 weeks. Might tweek it after that to suit tastes.

v1 recipe:

Deadly Sin by Good Life Vapor

  • RY4 Double (TFA) @ 10%

  • Yellow Cake (FW) @ 5%

  • Cinnamon Danish Swirl (Cap) @ 5%

1 points

by scoopylooalmost 11 years ago

I'm going to make this. I remember Deadly Sin tasting like a maple bar doughnut. I wonder if there's some maple in there? Will try yours and then yours with a little maple.

1 points

by Krigaalmost 11 years ago

I've never really gotten maple from it, but I have been tossing around an idea to use it as a base and make a few variations, adding just a little something. Raspberry was all I had really come up with, but maple should work beautifully. Anything that works in a pastry, really. Hmm... Apple.

1 points

by scoopylooover 10 years ago

I made this, and the cinnamon was way too heavy, IMO. It is close, but needs something, and less cinnamon danish swirl. I haven't tried it with the maple yet.

Yoplay Parlay by Good Life Vapor

  • Yogurt (FA) @ 5%

  • Strawberry (TFA) @ 5%

  • Blueberry (TFA) @ 5%

  • Graham Cracker (Unknown) @1%

This is copy/pasted direct from a post by the creator, circa 2012. Manufacturer of the graham cracker was not included, and TFA has since replaced Blueberry with Blueberry Extra. Yogurt is not part of FA's e-cig line, and contains diacetyl. Unknown if GLV has switched manufacturers.

All TFA flavors

  • 10% Watermelon

  • 5% Strawberry

  • 2% Raspberry (Sweet)

  • 2% Blueberry Wild

Tastes damn good in my opinion but fruits are right up my alley. I've never had the original though.

1 points

by Vayporubalmost 11 years ago

Tried it today. It is sooooo close. I still need some steep time, admittedly.

1 points

by Botboy141almost 11 years ago

It seemed absolutely amazing to me after 2.5 weeks. I wasn't too sure after initial mix, only made 8mls the first time. That got polished off last night when I pulled it out to try it again, made it into my tank which is rare.

Whipped up another 60ml today to sit for 2 weeks.

1 points

by Botboy141almost 11 years ago

Just thought I'd let you know, if you drip this, you'll taste the koolada...at least I could...sadly disappointing as I just started dripping recently. Above however, you'll find the adjustments I made to make it absolutely delicious.

1 points

by Vayporubalmost 11 years ago

Yeah, I had to sub in some flavourart flavors to make up for what I didn't have in tfa. So, I still have some tinkering to do with it myself.

1 points

by Botboy141almost 11 years ago

So it's very good, at least it seemed that way until I put it into a sub ohm and the koolada almost made me want to vomit...

Made some adjustments that I posted over in the Monthly thread. I wouldn't really say they are adjustments to the clone, as I wasn't going for the clone, more so taking what this juice is and improving it for myself and the tastes of those I shared it with earlier today. The recipe I'm now using is:

  • 10% Watermelon (TFA)
  • 5% Sweet Strawberry (CAP)
  • 2% Raspberry (LA)
  • 2% Blueberry Wild (TFA)
  • 2% Whipped Cream (TFA)
  • 1% Marshmallow (TFA)
  • 1% Grapefruit (FA)
  • 1 drop per 10ml Coconut Extra (TFA) (I dripped it through a 16ga blunt needle).

Can't taste the coconut yet but I think you'll get just a hint of it after a good long steep. All I can is it's delicious after a good shake, hoping it just gets better with time.

Edit: I mixed this mag VG and dripped @ 3mg on a .31ohm dual coil.

1 points

Just made this with 1% Koolada and it tastes spot-on to me. Even gave me the same sickly sweet feeling I get when I vape too much Seven Seas. :)

Clone of Apple Cinnana from Fuzion Vapor

  • Banana Cream (TFA) @ 8%
  • Strawberry Ripe (TFA) @ 8%
  • Apple (TFA) @ 6%
  • Ripe Banana (TFA) @0.5%
  • Cinnamon Red Hot (TFA) @0.5%

WARNING: The Cinnamon Red Hot and Banana Ripe means this could be a tank cracker.

1 points

by kirktalmost 11 years agoBring on the Diacetyl, baby

Is this a tank cracker with that low % of Red Hot & ripe banana?

1 points

by overachieveralmost 11 years ago

Probably. The authentic Apple Cinnana destroyed the tank on my Russian 91% so I wouldn't risk putting this in a plastic tank!

I'll edit the post and put a warning in...

1 points

by xeddzulalmost 11 years ago

Never had the original but mixed this up last night and vaped it most of the day today. It's damn good, unfortunately the cinnamon irritates my throat after awhile.

1 points

by kirktalmost 11 years agoBring on the Diacetyl, baby

After Day 3 of curing on a hot plate and this is a winner. Using it in my sub-ohm cloud factory and throat hit is awesome at 3mg nic. Will probably cut down the red-hot to .3 and up the Ripe Banana to .7. Strawberry and apple are perfect background notes for this mix. Well done!

1 points

by overachieveralmost 11 years ago

Thanks. Credit goes to Fuzion Vapors for coming up with the original though ;)

On my next batch, I'll probably try adding a tiny touch of toasted marshmallow to add a little sweetness.

It sweetens it

1 points

by trippingandliftingalmost 11 years agoMixologist

1 points

by captaincannibalalmost 11 years ago

Liking this even though I just mixed it yesterday. Does it change a lot after steeping? The CDS is pretty strong to me.

Also Cap Sugar Cookie is a really yummy flavor but I never see any good recipes with it.

1 points

by trippingandliftingalmost 11 years agoMixologist

Yeah it get's a lot smoother and sweeter. Give it some time

1 points

by Krigaalmost 11 years ago

Here's one if you're looking to burn up some Sugar Cookie:

  • 4% Strawberry (FA)

  • 8% Strawberry Ripe (TFA)

  • 8% Sugar Cookie (Cap)

  • 3% Bavarian Cream (TFA)

  • 2% Whipped Cream (TFA)

  • 2 drops/10ml sweet, 1 drop/10ml sour

Made this as my second attempt at a strawberry shortcake (first one with FA Cookie was no good), and it's perfect for a week or two, but kinda turns into crunch berries. Worth the flavoring/nic either way. 25% flavoring due to weak strawberry, but that can probably come down, drop the SC a bit (6%?) first. If it tasted like it smelled, I'd be rich.

So I know MMV doesn't add food coloring to their mixes. So I know at least one of their flavorings is red. I made some using watermelon tfa stawberry natural CAP and mint candy tfa. The mint candy is exactly spot on to theirs but I feel like I'm using the wrong watermellon and stawberry lol or wrong percentages. cause it's super close just not spot on.

I made something very similar to this, sans black currant, and it was a bit too perfumey on the exhale. Think it just needs time?

1 points

by zero01101almost 11 years ago

huh... i couldn't say actually; i can vape my blend within 10 minutes of mixing without flavor inconsistencies, and i don't think i've ever gotten "perfume-y" from it except for that one time i used pomegranate deluxe instead of pomegranate (regular)...

1 points

by GeneralJaperyalmost 11 years agoMixologist

I don't have my recipe in front of me but I think I was around 10% pomegranate and maybe a little higher on the Lemon 5% ish, maybe that's it. Or it could be the Lemon I used. It's a TFA water soluble Lemon, I've never used it before or in anything else. I also added a little bit of Bavarian, but I don't think that'd make it floral at all. Would it?

1 points

Awesome flavor using FW black currant and TFA pom/lemon with same percentages.

1 points

by zero01101over 10 years ago

i've been interested in trying FW flavors for a while, so this is encouraging :D

1 points

by Crylaughingover 10 years ago

That looks pretty smart, but the %s seem a little high. I usually do 9% pom, 7% black currant, 3% lemon, and 1 drop lemon juice per 10mls.

I might try upping the currant since it gets drowned out by the sour. I have also thought about adding just a hint of blackberry to give it some deeper notes.

This is really close, but there is something overpowering that is coming through and has a bad aftertaste.

I think I have narrowed it down to either the Turkish flavoring, or the Tobacco flavoring. Their website has a picture of a black and mild cigar for this juice so maybe sub in a pipe tobacco flavor instead. I don't have any of that flavor from Wizard right now to test.

Summer Sweet from Velvet Cloud Vapor

  • Sweet Tea (CAP) @ 6%
  • Raspberry (TFA) @ 4%
  • Lemon (TFA) @ 3%
  • Sweetner (TFA) @ 2%
  • Sour (TFA) @ 1%

*optional - I added this once experimenting and liked it:

Watermelon (TFA) 1 drops per 10 ml

This is the closest I have gotten to Summer Sweet. I started out adding too much Lemon and Raspberry. Once I actually smelled the Sweet Tea flavor I realized that this was most of the Summer Sweet Taste. I made this with Max VG and it turned out to be about 84% VG. The flavor was almost spot on with no steeping and slowly settled in to be even closer.

Should be fine, I don't think I've had a bad marshmallow.

by sl0wRoastover 10 years ago

Did you use the same percentage of FA marshmallow (5%) ?

1 points

by Sandman0over 10 years ago

I started at 3% which was a bit more mallowy than with TFA, and I did end up at 5% eventually, though it was much more mallowy (I like that). To stay in clone land I'd start at 3% and see where you want to go from there.

For the vanillin and citric acid ingredients, are those really at 1% of the final mix? Most mixes for citric acid usually say a couple of drops at most per 10ml.

Yeah, you can go lower if you like. I get a bite from Frankenvape that I only get when I up the CA.

Try it with a couple drops and try it at 1%.

I prefer more vanilla some like less.

As posted was most accurate to the real deal to me.

Damn, your comment made me want to vape it and I'm out. Now I want to mix some up I've been slacking on keeping my supply topped off.

What ratio you mixing at? I usually roll with 50/50, but i'm finding with more complex flavours/recipes that 30/70 PG/VG is working out better.

Clone of Gravel Pit from CRFT

Yellow Peach CA 8%
Sweet Guava CA 6%

Simple, but oh so fuzzy and delicious. This has been my ADV ever since I tried it, CRFT is 50/50 and I prefer higher VG so I made my own version and its spot on in my opinion. You can adjust the percentages to your liking, but this is what tastes like the orginal gravel pit. Personally I add more guava, but that's just my personal taste.

For how long should I steep this?

1 points

by project_twenty5oh1over 10 years agoMixologist

If you can't give it a bath, probably a week or two should be satisfactory, but many have said it tastes great after a mix and shake.

Mixed up Channer Bear the other day and did a lot of heat steeping and shaking over the last two days. Just tried it today and daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn...

Better than the real deal IMO. The original was always a ltitle too sweet for me. This stuff is perfect and my wicks are squeaky clean after a few ml's.

You did a phenomenal job. Thanks so much. Time to go make a gallon or three.

Is the channer recipe available anywhere? Or is it a secret?

How important is the TFA Smooth? I mixed 30ml up and that was the only thing I didn't have. I also didn't use any kind of heated magnetic stirrer. It's been steeping a week so far and is almost there but the DK is still pretty harsh.

Smooth was a pretty critical element. When I figured that out, it was kind of a eureka moment.

Ok, cool. I've to re-up on some flavours for the big batch anyway. I'll pick up smooth too.

Yeah it used to be one of my favorites! I'll go buy a bottle in the next few days and try and clone it for you. Or at least get a good start.

by BenzoWagsover 10 years ago

I just mixed

8% papaya cap

4% plum cap

3% Dragon Fruit cap

1% EM

And it's pretty close. Just a little sweet. I'll work on it a little more but that's a decent start

  • 1% FW Blueberry

  • .5% FA Bilberry

  • 2% Cap Italian Lemon Sicily

  • 4 Drops per 10ml Menthol Concentrate (Mine is 50/50 Menthol/PG) The menthol plays a critical element in the overall taste of BoC. You can start with less, but crank that shit up!
