Was there so much peppery flavor to be unpalatable? Make sure to leave the vendors' names out of your post (we don't like to rustle feathers anymore than we have to) and be courteous. But please do tell us your horror stories!
Hopefully a GC/MS validated nicotine base from our laboratory can cure these woes! Remember: nicotine in solution should be colorless, mostly odorless, and COMPLETELY absent of taste!

What if the first, and only nicotine base I've handled is from you guys? My first DIY order was from Nude Nicotine, and I've never had a reason to search for another vendor for my nic base.. The stuff is great, and I love the Nude Armor option since I don't blow through the 100mg that fast
I picked up some 100% VG vanilla pudding juice from a local shop a while back. I believe I got it in 10mg of nicotine. It tasted exactly like vanilla pudding...with a big scoop of black pepper mixed in. It was completely unpalatable, and I can't even go near vanilla custard style juices anymore either! That really knocks out a lot of juices : (. I still make custard-base juice for friends, and I try a little bit every now and then. But I get absolutely no enjoyment from it.
Me and a buddy went in in some. Don't remember the name (I wish I did!), got it, it was awful. So peppery, stained brown, not much for smell. We even ran 30%+ flavor to make it even tolerable. Steeped. Nothing. Still chokes to even smell that stuff. So it sits on the back of my shelf. Guess that's what we get for $15 shipped :(
I stopped DIY for a while because of the Nicotine base I bought my first time. Pretty discouraging. The taste was just off and this from a company that was highly recommended on another forum that shall remain nameless. Pepper mixed with a slight Body odor would be the best way to describe it.
Mine tastes like corn chips. Like, plain fritos type corn chips. Thought it might have been the VG I was using, but changed out and the taste is still there. It doesn't show up at first. It creeps up a couple of days into the batch and then, bam, fritos in my mouth. Every recipe, no fail. I've been looking to get some NudeNicotine, but just haven't had the chance yet.

My very first order for nic was a 100 mg/ml bottle that looked like urine and smelled like rubber tires. When I mixed a bottle at 6 mg/ml, it tasted like I was chewing on the sole of a used running shoe. The vendor handled it like a champ and sent me a new bottle toute de suite. The new bottle was clear and odorless, as it should be.
The worst I nicotine I ordered was about a year ago, it was 48mg that had a really bad odor of something like naptha or kerosene, it wasn't a faint odor either it was really strong, almost enough to gag you strong, I'm used to a slight a pepper smell but this smelled awful. The reason I knew it was bad was because I was transferring it to some glass bottles before freezing and the smell really hit me. I sometimes forget to even give a new order a quick whiff before transferring and freezing but that was not unnoticeable.
It had a somewhat yellow color, maybe something like motor oil, but yeah, it was pretty bad.
The company I ordered from was pretty good about it though. They sent me a new bottle that smelled a little peppery but much better.
I'm actually still on my first batch of nic, and when I ordered it it was the goto supplier before you guys came around. Its not that this nic is terrible but there is definitely an odor and taste to it that can easily be distinguished from 0 nic mixes and 6mg mixes. From what I've heard NN is the cats pajamas, so I'd love to be entered so that I can hope to sample it on my own. Thanks for the giveaway
I have been very lucky in my DIY adventures. Worst nic I have ever had was (1) Chinese juice sold at a 'smoke shop' and (2) a certain local vendor who I have to believe was using some first gen nic base, it was like vaping pepperspray. All the nic I have bought though has been fantastic.
Your base - I finally got my hands on some from a juice mixer here, but I've yet to try it. He swears by it, though.
I ordered a batch of 100mg nic in VG from a popular and well-regarded vendor. The nicotine itself gives off a strong Frito's odor.
I've tried vaping it unflavored (diluted down to 8 or 16mg) and it definitely imparts an odd taste. So what hope does anything subtle have?
It's my guess that it results in a dulling of certain flavors. So much for a neutral base.
I've been researching new vendors to try and would happily give you guys a shot. I love the idea of CoA and data sheets for the specific batch ordered.
Where do you select your ingredients.
I'm actually trying to figure out a nic issue right now. Current (unnamed) vendor sent 100 mg base nic, I made a 4mg vg base for mixing. First few batches are smooth and wonderful. A week in the fridge and all of a sudden everything throat hits like 18mg - lots of coughing and tears. Its not actually 18mg because my heart wasn't racing - just punches me in the throat every time I take a puff.
Same mixes at 0 work perfectly.
Thoughts?

But seriously, how do you do it? It's definitely some arcane alchemy and/or cutting edge science you've got going on. I don't even want to win (though I obviously wouldn't mind), but just say thanks for playing a pivotal role in my escape from the land of fire and combustion-based nicotine.
The worst I've ever seen was handed to me by a coworker.

It was a 36mg/ml strength juice that he insisted was the best for clouds. (How he survived that is still beyond me) I couldn't see through the juice in the bottle. The bottle couldn't have been more than 1" thick, but no light.
I had to smell it though, no way was I vaping it, but I wanted to understand this crazy person. It was supposed to smell like orange. It smelled like death.
I will never trust his recommendations on flavor again.
I've been oogling a bottle of Nude Nicotine for a while, just haven't taken the plunge into DIY just yet.
I only started DIYing my own juices a couple months ago and have only places 2 orders for base (from Vice's Electronic Cigarettes and Wizard Labs), and guess I have been lucky so far as I have no horror stories to report thus far. Can't say the same with flavor concentrates though, a couple of them have been beyond horrid to my pallet (saving them up for a VIF giveaway some day). I've seen several posts here about your nude nic base and would love to give it a try!
A couple months ago I ordered 250ml of 100mg strength nicotine from a vendor that I hadn't tried yet. The price was fantastic, so I figured I'd give them a shot. When it arrived over a month later, I was greeted with a plastic bottle full of a pink liquid that smelled like rotten cabbage. Needless to say, I was a bit chagrined.
Now, being the adventurous sort, I threw on some gloves and prepared a quick bottle of vanilla custard at 6mg. What I vaped was not vanilla custard. What I vaped was neither vanilla nor custard. What I vaped was best described as a mixture of black pepper and hell on Earth. Of course, because I am so giving, I had my fiance try my new mixture. She was displeased. I contacted the company, and they assured me that was nothing was wrong with the nicotine. The woman on the phone suggested that I didn't mix my flavors correctly.
The end result was that I disposed of an entire bottle of pink nicotine base and my fiance is skeptical about trying my mixes now. Also, I haven't ordered from that company again.
Never had nic base personally, but would absolutely LOVE to win to start DIY. Please please please pick me. I have a household of five vapers and we would absolutely go through a lot of nic base :) get us hooked on the first taste so we can order more and more :D thank you so much.
Kinda new to DIY so I've only tried one nic base, I think it's OK. Don't get a peppery taste but it can leave my throat begging for mercy from the KFL+ if I go too high on the power. Might be nic, will have to get some different nic to find out.
I did get one liquid from a vendor that tasted peppery. Supposed to be apple and strawberry, I could occasionally taste apple under the pepper taste when dripping. I'm assuming it was the nic in it.

Worst nicotine I've ordered? Has to be around a couple months ago when I started DIY, and I ran out of my nicotine so had to rush to pick some up from a local B&M... It was so bad I went back to smoking actual cigarettes for about a week until my order shipped (I live in Hawaii so it's bad as it is already)... That's actually how I am right now. The nicotine was clear when I got it from the B&M, but started to brown without me noticing, since I keep them in amber bottles.
Made about 200ml of.my various DIY creations for a good friend of mine who when asked said.they tasted "interesting" a couple weeks later he asked why I added pepper to all of my juices turns out the "fresh" bottle of base I received was definitely not that. He gave them back to me and I was shocked at how peppery they tasted. Needless to say he buys his juice from a b&m now...
Gotta post this one from a throw away.... I've gotten nic base from a prominent internet based company who happened to have a mix lab near me. This company got their nicotine from china in 55 gal drums and would mix it down in other 55 gal drums.
The nic would sit in these drums for ages, getting pumped out using a hand air pump that forced more and more air into the drums. Needless to say the nic was straight brown. Pepper taste is a given but it really interfered with the flavor of a mix so much, I could never get a consistent result.
A liter of 36mg nic would make me 200 30ml bottles of juice.... that would last quite a while.
I don't have a terrible nicotine story. :( I mean, I guess that's a good thing, but I would like a sample to compare.
I currently mix with a black bottle 100mg/ml nic base and it seems to be affecting my mixes with a peppery and (sometimes metallic) bite.
I actually have been going back and forth about you guys and vaperstek because I hear great things about you both (and both are the same price). Right now I dont know if I should get more nic or flavors.

I haven't had any really terrible experience with bad nicotine, I've only ordered it over so far though. That said, it has picked up a decidedly nasty smell after having it for a few months. Didn't seem to be affecting the flavor at all though, thankfully. Still perfectly clear though.
Well I'm just getting into DIY, but I keep hearing how good your nicotine is. Just made my first purchase from bull city vapors yesterday and went with some Capella flavors. Was going to go through wizard but kept seeing posts about how peppery it tastes and even though I'm new at DIY I've had peppery juices before and did not like at all. I've been researching a lot about how to do this all and it makes me wish I would have gotten into this sooner.

It had a very nasty spicy taste to it. I was lucky that it was only 120mls. I didn't have that kind of taste with my first batch I bought. I ended up buying a new bottle of Nic and it was much better. I loved that Nic that I tried from Nude Nicotine in the free sample. I am really getting low on my supply and it would be KILLER to win a supply of fresh good Nic.

i had a bottle of 100% vg 60mg/ml nic base that i used for around 4 months. it was ok. but not great. it was peppery and a little harsh, but vapeable.
well, i forgot about it for another 3-4 months and decided to try to use the rest of it. waste not, want not, right?
the second i drew it up into the pipette i knew i was making a mistake. it was bright pink. but i thought, fuck it, it can't be that bad right?
wrong. that juice was so harsh and peppery.it was like just dumping a jar of pepper directly into my lungs. it was fuckin gross.
I've been trying to convince myself not to buy my nic from you guys until I finish my wizards labs stuff, but it is so horrible tasting I might just have to jump ship earlier. Nothing but pepper and scratchy throat afterwards. It's actually turned me off of DIY. I just so happen to have a friend who brews his own juice and he used your nic. It was incredible tasting. We both love our vanilla custard and follow a recipe for grants vanilla custard, but it was really eye opening how much better his was. I can't wait to get your stuff on my shelf!

The real issue was user error. I had bought a huge bottle, used quite a bit, and then put the rest in some shitty plastic bottle I had laying around in my house - and then decided that I wasn't sure if DIY was really my thing. So I put it in the closet and forgot about it. For almost a year.
So maybe a few months ago I'm thinking, "Hey! Juice is super expensive and I kinda miss DIY!" so I pulled it out and mixed a pretty simple juice - bit of apple, bit of strawberry, bit of coconut. Probably the only DIY juice I had made that I didn't hate. Shook it up and dripped it and...
HOLY SHIT. I didn't puke but damn did I come close. My girlfriend was in the room and started yelling after me as I ran out of the room coughing and hacking and dry heaving.
This stuff wasn't even remotely vapeable at this point. It tasted like I had just inhaled straight pepper mixed with a little bit of mold. I promptly threw the juice away and sniffed at the bottle of nic. That caused me to nearly puke all over again.
The main issue here was the only way to get into the attic in my home is through a hatch in my closet. I had stored that bottle of nic right under the hatch all summer.
So yeah. Loads of heat+shitty plastic bottle+several months = the worst nicotine you can possibly imagine.
So I kept getting vaper's tongue when I was starting out. Really badly. 4 days, couldn't taste vapor at all. Kept happening. Couldn't figure out why my mixes were doing this. Almost gave up on DIY.
Finally realized it was my nic. Every time I would use that nic in my mixes, even at 6mg, it would completely fry my tastebuds. I have two bottles of nic from the same supplier around the same period. Opened the second bottle and it only slightly numbed out my taste buds. A couple of days later they would work again. Hey, that was twice as good as the first bottle, so a major improvement!
No idea what they had done to their nic, but it was nasty. Since then, I have used some of your nic, and it is unlikely I will ever use anything else. Great stuff.
So this was when i started using a proper mod: I went to my local vap shop and got a 30mL, 10mg bottle of a fruity concoction. It tasted good as a tester but when I got to my friends house to set it all up we taste tested it in his setup. Imagine eating a bottle of pepper with an aftertaste of fruit on what was left of my seared pallette. Whats worse, because I was new to the drip I was all like "ohh this is way better!" My friend took a HUGE toke and almost coughed up a lung. we went back to the shop and asked for my money back. That didn't go too well....
I was wondering why all my mixes were so harsh (only 6mg). I thought maybe it was the flavoring I was using. I smelled my nic base, and bam, got a huge nose full of pepper. I kind of just assumed that's the way it was until I started reading about all the peppery nic posts on this forum.
Okay so the nic that was the worst for me was from a fairly well known company on this and other subreddits -- I decided to get a 120 ml to supplement my previous purchase of 1L of 100mg/ml because it was on sale, and I swear to god it was the color of coffee with 3 creams in it and smelled like FISH.
So glad I found nudenic.
A local b&m had some unflavored 12mg in their tasting bar. This isn't the first time I've seen an unflavored nic on offer, and I actually like the vape sometimes. This was, however, the first time an unflavored sample tasted like bland chili strained through gym socks. At least now I know what makes their shop mixes so... "special."
The current nicotine that I have is actually the only nicotine that I've ordered, and it's terrible. Ruins all of my excellent flavors that I make. But I just don't want to throw it out. Should have done my research properly and went with NN to begin with!
I ordered some nicotine from a cheap website, luckily it was only 60ml but it smelled like death. Was light brown, but after watching a few YouTube videos I found that it wasn't high quality and tossed it. Would love to try out your nicotine though, I've heard great things!
The second time I ever got nicotine it was from a bulk vendor. It was 36mg in VG and from the first time I made a mix, nothing seemed right. The throat hit was too harsh and the taste was off. I dealt with it for a few days and then the whole bottle started to turn brown. It was only a light brown but it was noticeable. I got the bottle for decently cheap, but it wasn't worth it. Barely used any before I went back to my previous vendor.

Oh boy...... we can see 3 steps right off-the-bat that are awesomely wrong in that scenario. Glad you've moved away! Enjoy the 500mL bottle, and be sure to store in the freezer when not in use to prevent that unwanted oxidation if at all possible :)

Brown nic was the worst I've gotten. Smelled horrid. Didn't even have to get your nose close to the bottle to smell the bitter pepper scent coming from it.
Contacted the vendor with pictures and got a reply saying that it is due to the variances in the extraction process etc,etc.
Never ordered from them again and will not recommend them to my enemies.
So, I've been vaping for a little over three years now. Took the DIY plunge a mere 4 months after I started. (In retrospect, I know that was a little too early.)
I merrily ordered everything I was told I would need and then agonized over where to purchase my nicotine from. For days I read and absorbed everything I could I find about DIY, using nicotine, proper precautions etc... So much that I probably gave myself a lovely case of brain fry.
Now, the whippersnappers might not know this but way back in the day when dinosaurs roamed the earth, pyramid tea bags feared for their lives and the best mod you could get was called a "Chuck" (It had a clicky button! /gasp!)...there were only a handful of vendors that sold nic.
But then, on the horizon... we saw a new vendor! There was much rejoicing, circle jerking and even a bit of drama. I ignored the... interesting...tactics of said vendor and ordered a small bottle of 36mg.
I was on my way.
Now, I knew my first mixes were going to suck...and suck they did, with the power of a 1000 Meile vacuum cleaners. (Thanks Vacuum AMA guy!) Yet again, I poured over DIY boards in an effort to make something vapeable. Less flavor, more flavor, additives, steeping...I tried everything. All of my juices left a HORRIBLE taste in my mouth.
Needless to say, I was vekelmpt. I eventually ordered nic from another vendor and what do you know? My juices all of a sudden were much better. Now, I make juice for family and friends who say they like it even more than the stuff they buy at the "Vape store". (Personally...I think they are just saying that because the juice they get from me is free!) :)
I just vaped a juice today that tested at 6mg(my preferred nic) and it had such a peppery taste I couldn't vape it. For a pepper flavor it was quite nice, a cross between peppercorn and white pepper. The flavor was suppose to be peach cream :(

We definitely hit all 3 points for the destruction of your poor nicotines :P high heat, plenty of oxygen exposure, and lots of UV light. Oh wait, and we have a 4th, the bottle!

Well, I got a 250ml a few months back, looking to experiment A LOT. After sitting sealed at room temp for 5 days (open only for a total of maybe 15 mins over the course of time) it drastically changed in color. It smelled like wet dogs and surely tastes similarly, sans actual taste reference.
Got a sample of your stuff from a friend, and it's absolutely the most tasteless nic base I've tried (luckily a compliment in this context).
