I am a bit overwhelmed by the number of scales. I am looking at around $50 or lower budget. Would something like this.

Be worth the extra cost over something like this?

I am just getting into DIY and will be starting off with a lot of smaller sample batches.
I have the one from the Amazon link as well and have used it with success. The auto shutoff feature is a bit annoying. I've since purchased a different scale so if you want to give that one a shot and want it let me know and I can send it to you.
I also have that scale and dislike the auto shutoff. Can I ask what scale you ended up with that you liked more?
Sure.I tried 3 different mini scales and they all had the auto shutoff feature (some a little longer than others). I ended up picking up this one http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/my-weigh-ibalance-601.html based on a recommendation from /u/dthangel
It's quite a bit more than the pocket jeweler scales but I'm sure over time it will end up paying for itself.
Looks like a really nice scale. I didn't realize the shut off feature was so common on pocket scales. It makes sense to have it but it seems really short on the one I have and it's shut off while measuring flavors before. I'll probably need to invest in something better in the future.
How do you distinguish the different weights of different components when mixing by weight? VG weighs more than PG and both are different than flavorings or nic.
