sour pear?
submitted about 11 years ago by [deleted]

Hiya looking for a sour pear as TFA's pear is too dry/strong/sweet? I guess just too overwhelming. Is there a sour pear? What about prickly pear? What is that like?

thanks.

Try Flavour Art's pear, it's bright andmuch sweeter/candyish, so adding a sour note to it can be easily done.

I'm making a 10ml batch I've put .10ml of sour and it's not strong enough, how much sour is too much?

Not sure, I only use it to accent flavors at 1%, you could go up to 1.5 or 2% and see if there's a difference. Also, time will help the mixing.

that is true. I'll give it more time to become more pronounced.

Maybe toss in some grapefruit or lemon flavor, or add some lemon juice. Yes, real lemon juice.

Inawera's pear has a more bitter flavor to it. You can smell and taste the skin of the pear. Maybe use that with Flavour Art's pear and it could be what you're looking for.

Inawera also has a cactus flavor (prickly pear) that's really good. It has an aloe taste to it as well, so be aware of that. I wouldn't call it sour though, more sweet and dry then anything. Good on it's own or I like to mix some strawberry with it.

Yeah I'm finding strawberry and pear go really great together.
