What's your process for improving juice?
submitted about 11 years ago by sxeQ

I'm trying to make my bad juice less shitty, but it feels like I'm just throwing darts at a dartboard. I really have no idea what I'm doing here...

Here are two of the juices I've made -

A mango/banana cream flavor - http://dot1ml.com/mixer/8p6o5us

A blackberry bubblegum flavor - http://dot1ml.com/mixer/28j0tk3

Both of them turned out absolutely awful. The blackberry has been steeping for 4 days, the mango I just made today. I have the same problem with both of them, the exhale just tastes god awful. I can't even put a taste on it, it's just bad.

I don't really know how to make these better, though. I can't taste any individual flavors in juice, so I don't really know what's too low, what's too high, or if there's anything that needs to be cut altogether. What do you recommend?

the first one looks a little too heavy on the creams/custards... a little goes a long way and you may have "overflavored" it. Rather than toss it, for the sake of experimentation, I'd say split it up into two containers equally, let one at the original % steep a week or so, and the second one, cut it so you double your PG/VG with the same flavoring, and see how that develops after a week.... you can always add more fruit, if you'd like. The blackberry one? Seems like a reasonable flavor %, but I've never used bubblegum, so.... more steeping? Good luck!

You ARE throwing darts at a dartboard. But sometimes you get a bulls-eye.

I'd simplify it drastically, as in that first mix I'd cut down the percentages to 10-20%. Personally I've never made a flavor over 15% and the ones that were good certainly didn't need that extra 5-7%. Hell I've made a badass flavor at just 10%. A really good way to see what your working with is to mix individually flavors and try them separately.

Blackberry is a really strong flavor, so id lower that to like 2-5%. Perhaps bump up the bubblegum if the result tastes bland. If you find yourself getting frustrated try making a different concoction altogether. Then after some time you may realize exactly what you need to do. Really though a personal rule of thumb is always start simple and work your way up. Your wouldn't dump 9 different seasonings on a steak and expect it to be 5/5 stars.

Yeah... I made a guava juice that tasted good, so that worked out. I just don't really know where to begin. I overdid it when I ordered my first batch of flavors, so now I have probably 40-45 flavors, tons of ideas... and nowhere to start mixing with them.

The first mix kind of got out of hand, I don't really know how to use any of the cream flavors I have so I just started throwing shit into the recipe. I might remix it, idk. I don't think the custard works. I want a mango banana vape with a slight hint of creamyness, I don't even know if custard is really the flavor I'm going for.

Alright, keep ripe banana and mango. Mix those two flavors and figure out a good ratio. When done with that figure out whether you like bavarian cream, sweet cream, and if you have it whipped cream, the best. Pick one. throw that in at a low percenatge.

Is banana a stronger flavor than mango? If not why is it at such a low percentage?

Try Mango-7%/Banana 4%/Cream 2-3%. Still not creamy enough? Add more. Too much? Subtract it. Would you eat mango vanilla ice cream? That's actually a stupid question cause that sounds damn delicious. Point is why vanilla swirl or vanilla custard?

You'll get it eventually and I'm glad you've made at least one mix you enjoy. I know what you mean about too many options. I went overboard myself and got like 100-150 flavors. One time I made Red type/Sour/Tobacco. That was so horrible I took two drags and threw the whole fucking bottle away. Thinking about it makes me wanna vomit.

Everything I've read says banana is a really, really strong flavor. I didn't want a ton of banana, so I put it at 2%. I was vaping on 10% mango and it was a decently strong flavor, so I knew I wanted it in the 10% range.

The cream is what I'm really struggling with. Mango vanilla ice cream does sound fucking good, so I think the idea is sound. I might try 2% vanilla swirl, 1% marshmallow, and maybe 1% coconut. Custard isn't really the flavor I'm going for, I think I just want that vanilla flavor, so bavarian cream and vanilla custard might not be the flavors I'm looking for.

Thanks! I'm enjoying vaping on just 10% flavors - right now I'm on Capella Juicy Peach - but the temptation to start experimenting is strong. I just want to make juice that's good enough that I'm not tempted to buy B&M juice... which is a challenge.

Alright, so I just threw this together:

7% Mango

4% Ripe Banana

2% Vanilla Swirl

1% Coconut Extra

1% Marshmallow

Note: I knocked over my bottle mid-mixing, and some of it spilled. I was too lazy to remix it... so this recipe isn't exactly what I ended up with. It's probably fairly close.

This might actually be something great. The mango I think needs to be a little bit stronger, and it could use a little bit more coconut. For whatever reason, I can't stand the taste ripe banana gives on an exhale. It just tastes... off. Every mix I've done with it has the same thing. I might throw this in a drawer to steep for a week and see if the banana settles down, otherwise I might just get rid of it and throw in something else.

but if you truly want to go "back to the drawing board" you could do a search and find reccomended % gor the respective flavorings, do single flavor mixes, then play around with mixing ratioes (of those single flavor mixes) to get the best multi-flavor mix

I looked around for recommended flavor % for most of the flavors... idk. I know I should go through all my flavors and vape them individually, but I'm so impatient. I have so many ideas bouncing around my head for juices that I want to make, and I have no idea how to do any of them without it turning out like these did.

not trying to be rude, but your problem is your impatience. if you take the time to use the flavors individually, you will get a better idea of how they taste at a specific percentage. after that it should be easier to mix multiple flavors at the right percentages.

Yeah... It is. I'm slowly getting through all my juices at a simple 10% mix, but it takes a long time to mix and taste each individual flavor. It's hard not to mix stuff up while I work my way through those.

Developing complex recipes takes a LONG time.

Start by making single flavor juices. Let those age at least a couple of weeks, so you know what the individual flavor is really like, and the percentage of flavor that is ideal. Build your recipes by mixing those single flavor juices together. 1 part this, 2 parts that, and a dash of something else.

If you want to be successful, you really need to show more patience. I promise that you will be swimming in juice before you know it, even with just single flavor mixes.

In the meantime, there is nothing wrong with relying on vendor juices for just a wee bit longer. You can even try using the premade DIY mixes from Mom&Pop or Want2vape to bridge that gap.
