Flavors...Since You Didn't Ask
submitted about 11 years ago by [deleted]

It never ceases to amaze me (not really) that 99% of new reddit diy'ers here buy mostly all TFA/TPA flavors and most of the time from WL. I never see a new diy'er say "I just placed my first order" and bought all FlavourArt, Inawera, Hangsen flavors and/or a mixture of the above...why is that...because most of the regular posters here for whatever reason primarily promote TFA/WL as the be all/end all when it comes to diy.

What little I post here, I'm usually suggesting other sources for diy flavors/supplies...not because I have an agenda against TFA/WL, I'm just simply trying to point out, there are other option and plenty of them.

I'm not big into fruit/dessert/candy flavorings. I lean more towards tobaccos, vanillas, chocolates, creams, coconuts. I knew this going into diy...but regardless of anyone's flavor preferences... on my first order I bought an assortment of these flavors from several flavor manufacturers and I'm glad I did. It didn't take long for me to cull the flavorings from certain manufacturers that I didn't like, otherwise had I bought just one brand of flavoring I'd probably have questioned my mixing skills as opposed to simply failing to develop a good mix because of a horrible flavoring....no two apples are alike...you may love Inawera apple and hate Capella apple or vice/versa...but to have only tried one? or to predominately suggest one flavor manufacturer over another....come on reddit/diy, do new diy'er a flavor/favor and inform them that there are other choices besides primarily WL & TFA...you don't even have FlavorArt, Inawera or Hangsen in your "Popular Flavor Companies" sidebar.

FlavorArt should definitely be in the sidebar.

Does anyone else do bulk pricing like TFA?

Inawera does

I dunno about real bulk, I don't do eliquid for sale. But Flavor West is cheaper. People bitch about the shipping, but what I think they miss is that the shipping is huge on a single 4oz bottle. But it is the same for 8 bottles (12? can't remember how many fit in the shipping box). Once you have figured out what flavors you like from them, you can get a lot of flavoring fairly cheaply as long as you buy in a bunch.

But I might be missing something. I don't order that much stuff that often, and TFA might have a better deal somehow and I just haven't taken advantage of it.

This is why I feel tfa receives so much promotion in this sub. Their prices are cheap and the flavors are pretty damn good for the most part.

Reading this thread, I'm personally feeling both positivity and negativity from different posts, like somehow the moderators of this sub have let people down by not listing every possibly concentrate vendor.

The sidebar says "popular" flavour companies, which, when I re-formated and re-wrote the sidebar 12 months ago (when the sub only had a handful of users) were the most popular concentrate suppliers.

So I guess the view is that the information in the sidebar is out-dated. Fair 'nuff.

If I were to add, say, 5 new companies, which ones would the good people of /r/diy_ejuice prefer?

> I'm personally feeling both positivity and negativity from different posts, like somehow the moderators of this sub have let people down by not listing every possibly concentrate vendor.

I tried to be both positive & negative...didn't want to leave anyone out lol.

Lots of Plp keep saying TPA is the easiest flavors to start with and also mention the affordable sample sizes...then there are a lot of folks that experience an underlying perfume taste in many of the Perfumers (sic) Apprentice flavors...but then purevapes offers small samples of FA flavors that are much more concentrated and in my opinion much easier to work with than TPA flavors.

As far as the sidebar I'd like to see FlavourArt, Inawera, Hangsen, TPA, Capella. In all my browsing around various diy forums it appears to me that folks that have been at diy for a significant amount of time and have worked extensively with all the various flavor manufacturers have culled brands such as LA especially, I see very little interest in FW and many that were exclusively using TPA are finding FA & INW flavorings more realistic in actual flavor profiles. But don't get me wrong, many still use TPA, all I was trying to point out was there are other brand options that goes mostly ignored as TPA for whatever reason is the standard bearer here. Same goes for Wizard Labs.

Hangsen is another that has many good flavorings but many folks associate some sort of unwarranted stigma against a company that has been in the ecig business longer than any.

Nice post Mate I'm right there with you on try different flavors from different company's. I have about 8-10 different flavors from company's other than the big 2. There is so many different one to try and I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to sample something new. You never know you might like Inawera, Capella much more than TFA. Its cheaper to buy in bulk from TFA than it is to buy from Wizard. Although TFA does make some good flavors. I just think in my case I love to have a choice of different ones to try. The same ol same ol gets old to me. Its all about variety when it come down to it in my case anyway. I like TFA for some flavors and Inawera for some other ones. Capella have quite a few I like also. Hangsen has some good ones but for Tobacco flavors I myself like Flavors Express from Ecig. I don't vape to much Tobacco but I have found a couple from Flavors Express that I do enjoy.

Just got my DIY starter kit from DIY Flavor Shack. It's actually a little overwhelming all the stuff it came with. Not as many flavors as a lot of you guys use, but plenty enough for me to get my feet wet.

Totally agree with OP. I, myself, have had good luck with overseas flavoring. Inawera and Hangsen are my ADVs. Finding venders that deal with USD and ship here can be a bit tricky though.

I get pissed when I see someone asking about a little or unknown vender and people answer with something along the lines of ''Why don't you just order from (for example) WL?'' I love trying new suppliers.

Nice. I agree that you should have more than just one brand, but I think for someone just starting out it's easy/cheap to grab a few TFA flavors and give it a shot.

I mix a bunch of diff vendors to make more complex flavors (I'm sure many others do too)...I'll use 3 or 4 diff strawberries to make my "Strawberry Sprite".

by scoopylooabout 11 years ago

That's what I've done: Used TFA flavors because they come in small amounts, for cheap, and while I'm learning and getting my feet wet they have been great. I still love a lot of their flavors - maybe it's because I haven't tried many others. I have tried some capella's, and liked TFA better for some flavors (coconut for example). I recently ordered some flavor west flavors too.

To start, I don't think there's anything wrong with starting out with small, inexpensive bottles, and I've been happy with TFA overall so far. Some of them are gross, but maybe I just haven't mixed them right - yet.

A note on Nobacco all their DIYs are from Atmos Labs.

A couple more flavor producers from Greece are Ecocig, Ecig Hellas & Vapenova from Cyprus.

I like Vices, Drusilla is pretty awesome, quick to answer questions and excellent pricing. I buy flavorings and my nic from her, 24.99 250ml @ 100mg as well as some equipment. But when i find something i like i usually go to the manufacturer because of sizes. Nice to see them on your list.

Since yo usad that tobacco is your forte I am curious what your best concoctions have been bro.
So far my favs have been Black mild plus from e cig express, and MBV ry4 and USA

by Bluesedabout 11 years ago

I use INW S'Camel, TAV, DNB, LSD...Hangsen T5, Indian, RY4 in all sorts of standalones and/or various blending...also Azure's TA. If I'm wanting something tasty I'll use various vanillas, chocolates, coconut, marshmallow in various combinations...all INW-FA- Hangsen flavorings.

I will say for me the INW Dersert Ship taste horrible, first DS I had ever tried, I also bought INW Dark Fire and haven't worked up the nerve to try it...it smells very floral and putrid. I didn't really care for their RY4, I must prefer Hangsens RY1 & RY4 because the vanilla/caramel are hardly noticeable.

As a newb (3 months) I use WL/TFA because it's one stop shoping for most everything I need. A new mixer is over loaded with information to sort out. As I get better at mixing I am going to branch out to other flavors and cut back on TFA.

Silver Cloud Estates makes some damn good flavors.

I was interested in trying them but they had so many different ingredients on the labels of the few I read. Any ones you would recommend ?

1 points

by BobJob123about 11 years agoMixologist

Honestly most of them have been great. The fruit flavors in particular. If nothing else get the blueberry and strawberry, they are amazing.

Cheaper by a longshot. That's what it was for me.

I am a first time diy'er and bought a kit from nude nicotine. I bought the highest tierd kit for $80 with a coupon (normally a $100). The kit comes with everything you need and 5 flavors. Even though it stated 5 flavors, I actually received 10 different flavors including the 5 I selected. Also a 0nic sample premixed juice was included. The kit arrived within 4 days of placing the order and so far I am impressed with it.

Cool...once you get going and try out different flavor companies you'll start finding the ones you prefer. I'm lucky in the sense that I'm not into fruits, candy, dessert flavors but I still have a box full of flavors from different manufacturers that I simply don't like after several, several attempts to make them work.

Good posting sir. Hopefully the newer folks don't miss this. Could save a lot of ppl a "step". Personally I feel there is a higher success rate with non tfa. Not that tfa doesn't have some awesome flavors I just feel fa, iw, and cap are more forgiving. And overall higher quality IMO. Haven't tried hangs em yet

by m_i_rabout 11 years ago

Agreed. And- for whatever reason- it seems TFA needs more "steeping/aging" time for a flavor to become vape-able. That's my biggest TFA issue. Don't have this as much with others.

Why don't more people go with Lorann? They have a great selection and you can get bulk pricing. Is it because they don't cater specifically to the vape market?

5 points

by Fuzzy_Logikabout 11 years ago

Because many of their flavors are fucked! not good for vaping, good for baking.

2 points

by cwlippincottabout 11 years ago

Honestly, every flavor I have bought from Lorann has been horrid. I have a little bin of flavors that I don't use for vaping, and almost every single one of them is Lorann. Last time I ordered from them, I vowed never again.

That being said, plan on using said flavors for confections or baking...one day.
