The July Recipe Thread (And some etiquette reminders)
submitted about 11 years ago by InertiaCreepingJust another Moderator

Wow, just a few days ago we hit the magical 6000 subscribers mark!

Did you know that adding a small amount of menthol to fruit juices can give them a creamy taste? I make a solution of 20% Menthol Crystals (by weight) in PG, then use about 2% in some juices to really make them pop!

Edit 7/13

OMG TFA GUAVA IS SO GODDAMN JUICY

Just a reminder on how things should work around here (these aren't hard and fast rules... yet)

  1. Use the search bar, it's actually very good.

  2. Use the god-damned search bar!!! ----------->

  3. We put a lot of work into the sidebar resources, give them a read!

  4. "Clone" request threads are frowned upon. Instead, maybe ask in what proportions some known flavours taste good together.

"Does anyone have an Obscure Juice from my Local Vendor clone??" threads will be down-voted mercilessly. No-one is going to do your work for you.

  5. Selling/buying/requesting to buy/requesting to sell posts don't realllly belong here, try /r/ecig_vendors

  6. Don't message me (or any individual moderator) directly with sub-reddit related questions. Instead, Message the moderator team

Cheers :)

Blue Raspberry Slurpee

All TFA flavors

  • 6% Blueberry (Wild)

  • 6% Gummy Candy

  • 4% Citrus Punch

  • 2% Peach (Juicy)

  • 1% Pomegranate

  • 0.5% Sour

  • 1% EM

If you ask me, this tastes pretty much dead on like blue raspberry. It's sweet, with a sour kick from the Citrus Punch. A smooth vape nevertheless (I'm big on minimum throat-hit). In my opinion it requires zero steep time, just a quick microwave and a really good shake, and it's ready to vape. Let me know what you think.

EDIT: Updated the EM percentage, sorry to anyone who tried it and got a bitter vape.

I'll have to try this. Is your Gummy Candy the PG base, or the Triacetin?

Just mixed this up, will update by the weekend with comments from some folks (long weekend with 3 other vapers...)

by Raiden395about 11 years agoMixologist

Please do, I look forward to hearing your review. I've found people either really like it or they really don't. If it's not sweet enough (even after the EM) try upping hte Pomegranate to 2%.

2 points

by Botboy141about 11 years agoMixing like a mad man...

Tried it a moment ago. To be as honest as possible, I think it's ok. Not really where my taste buds have been hanging out recently though. Will try it again over the weekend and come back and let ya know.

Would Blueberry Extra work in this at a lower %?

1 points

by Raiden395about 11 years agoMixologist

I'm not sure as I've never tried Blueberry Extra. I've found that TFA Blueberries tend to have drastically different flavors, as in the difference between Blueberry (Wild) and Blueberry Candy. It might work and turn out fantastic though; give it a shot and let me know.

Have you given any thought to adding koolada? This looks awesome. Next order imma get the last few flavors I need. I like cool vapes so I'm wondering if a drop or two of koolada would work.

1 points

by Raiden395about 11 years agoMixologist

Honestly, though not a menthol cigarette smoker, I'm a huge fan of menthol/fruit mixes as far as vaping is concerned.

So do I think that a cool vape would work??? Try Koolada 1%, if that's not enough, go to 2%. If you're looking for a hint of mint that won't overpower your vape I've found that 0.5% Menthol, 0.5% Koolada is a pretty perfect ratio.

1 points

by Trelgaabout 11 years ago

Yeah i'm not a big menthol fan, been scared to try them in juice. I'm ordering some flavors this week i need a few for this, so i'll try 1% koolada

1 points

by derangedfluffheadabout 11 years ago

microwave?

1 points

by Raiden395about 11 years agoMixologist

I use the microwave to heat the juice so that it mixes together more thoroughly. While I in no way think that this is a substitution for steeping, it allows me to feel generally assured that if I am to taste the flavor I won't get a swirl effect and throw off the end result.

This one was more about the journey than the destination, and yes, you could just buy the single flavoring from OoO or FW, but it's spot on so I'll share it anyway. It's kind of a pain to make over and over again, so consider making your own pre-mix in bulk if you like it.

Any recommended steap time on this brew? Just ordered the few flavors I didn't have.

3 points

by Krigaabout 11 years ago

Really just a day or two for everything to blend properly. You might notice the citrus mellow out with a longer steep, and vienna cream has been said to take a week, but I don't notice a lot of change after the first 2-3 days.

I've had someone say that the lime is too forward for them, but I'm fine with it. Start with a small batch, and you can make small tweaks to the fruit blend (.5% at a time) to suit your tastes if needed. It's also only at 10.5% flavor as listed, plenty of room if you want to experiment with adding more "milk". I tried Fresh Cream initially but felt it muted the highs of the fruit.

For all intents and purposes, it's blueberry. That's what they call them in Europe. Any difference is like the difference between a Navel and Valencia orange.

Haven't been able to put this one down. FA Banana is more Laffy Taffy than Runts, and mixed with so much cream and custard it really does taste like banana pudding. Sometimes you get cakey-vanilla cookie, sometimes you don't, just like the real thing.

'Nana Puddin'

  • 5% Banana (FA)

  • .5% Banana Ripe (TFA)

  • 4% Vanilla Custard (CAP)

  • 5% Bavarian Cream (TFA)

  • 2% Vienna Cream (FA)

  • 3% Whipped Cream (TFA)

  • 4% Vanilla Cupcake (TFA)

  • 1% Cookie (FA)

Sweeten to taste.

Give it a day or two for the banana ripe to settle and it's delicious. Gets better over the course of a week or two as the creams continue to emerge.

by testaccount54about 11 years ago

I don't mean to hijack your post, but I was trying to make a Peaches n Cream with Banana ejuice but ended up making something that sounds pretty similar. I think dialing down the banana cream a bit and upping the juicy peach will give you guys a juice less overtly banana, but I like it as it is.

Wasn't a fan of the FA cookie in the mix. It had a weird taste. But other than that it tastes great. I'm thinking of switching to a graham cracker to make it more of a banana cream pie.

1 points

by Krigaabout 11 years ago

You know, it did for me too at first. At some point it settled in and now I only taste a hint of it like every 3 vapes and enjoy it... but you're right, something else could be better there. TFA Cheesecake Graham Crust would probably be great for banana cream pie. I'll mess with subbing Capella Sugar Cookie and see where that takes me. Thanks for trying it!

Inspired by MBV's Jizmoglobin, I made my own take on a nutty blueberry custard that I've really been enjoying. FA Bilberry is a strong blueberry that doesn't disappear in the mix. Nice and simple:

Ermahglerbin

  • 7% Vanilla Custard (CAP)

  • 3% Vanilla Swirl (TFA)

  • 3% Bilberry (FA)

  • .5% Nut Mix (FA)

2 drops per 10ml Tart n Sour (LA) (optional)

1 drop per 10ml sweetener (optional)

1 points

by TheXysterabout 11 years ago

Quick question. I have been struggling to find a blueberry that taste like blueberry. I haven't tried FA Bilberry yet and read your remarks about it. So is it a good blueberry by itself as well as in combo with other flavors?

Thanks

3 points

by Krigaabout 11 years ago

Yes, IMO. It's somewhere in between a real fruit flavor and artificial blueberry, more like BooBerry cereal or blueberry bubble gum than blueberries in a muffin or pancake mix. More dark, wild and sweet than tart. Plenty strong though, and good to go right out of the gate.

1 points

by davidk48about 11 years ago

I'm adding this to the list next time I place an order. What about the nut mix? I already have aceytl pyrazine and like it in small amounts to add nutty flavor.. is the nut mix much different?

This is my last test, and yes. TFA Banana Ripe is strong as shit. There's just a hint. I originally tried it at 1.5% and it overpowered everything else. 0.8% is my preference, but you can adjust as you like.

I don't want to spam this site with vapecrafter posts but what would you guys think if I had a page on the site where you could visit and pick up a 5 mL of any of the blends in the monthly recipe thread with a single click (would be able to customize VG/PG and nicotine)? Is that something people would be interested in?

4 points

by lemcottabout 11 years ago

What about a site that runs like steam's greenlight? Post user made recipes, let people comment and vote on them, and then the ones that are popular enough makes it into the store?

Maybe sell up marked small batches during the voting phase?

2 points

by vapecrafterabout 11 years ago

This is a great idea and I'd love to integrate something like this into the store. I'll bring this to our web guys and see how we could implement something like this. We definitely won't be able to do it for Alpha but maybe during Beta or full commercial it's something we can try out!

For the time being I'm just asking people if they'd like their recipe featured on the store for others to be able to buy and try before they have to buy a bunch of flavors they might not otherwise use.

Thanks!

This one was inspired by Nicoticket's F5 (Refresh). It's described as, "Mango/Lychee with notes of Apricot, Green Apple, Coconut, and Naturally Extracted Orange peel", but you taste things that aren't in the mix, like grapefruit and cranberry. No clue if it tastes like the original, but it's one of the best fruit vapes I've tried. Sweet, tart, and definitely refreshing.

~~Raspberry Yum Yum~~ my husband said I should name it "My only regret is I didn't name you Clem" so that's the new name. Clem for short.

3% TFA Raspberry Sweet

3.5% TFA Raspberry

5% TFA Whipped Cream

2% TFA Marshmallow

1.5% TFA Bavarian Cream

Needed a little something, so I added:

3 drops TFA Fig (sorry for the drops, this was on the fly)

4 drops EM

I made this in a 10 ml bottle. Gave a hot water bath, and let it air overnight. A nice, subtle raspberry flavor. Might need a little more raspberry, or some koolada or menthol - very subtle though, and I do like it as is. Edit: Yup a couple of drops of menthol in the tank makes it even better!

Not quite snickerdoodle but Capella's sugar cookie is really good. I use it in a banana pudding to add that nilla wafer type flavor. I'd bet with a little tfa cinnamon danish or similar you could put together a good snickerdoodle.

Also how do you like the banana cream pie? I'm a banana junkie and always looking to try new ones.

Thanks for the tip! I'll add sugar cookie and cinnamon danish to my next order.

Their banana cream pie is really good. Nice creamy banana with a slight hint of pie crust. It works really well as a stand-alone, but can easily be used to add a unique banana note to mixes. I really like Capella's and Inawera's banana as well.

question on the milkstone: when you mix the percentages of extracts together, do you leave it as is? or do you dillute to X number of ml's with PG/VG???

1 points

by Hodorhohodorabout 11 years ago

Just mix as is you don't want to dilute it. You basically use it as if it were just another flavor concentrate. Though this recipe has 25%pg in so you would dilute it by that much only.

I'm working on a similar recipe... try version 2. It's great for this mix, but it's not as weak as version 1.

TPAs is much dryer and has a very distinct flavor that I can't quite describe. Caps seems a bit sweeter and more like a bakery flavor. You can probably sub the TPA for Cap, but I haven't tried this mixture specifically with cap's custard

Green candy apple

TFA Green Apple 13%

TFA Gummy Candy 5%

TFA Cotton Candy 2%

This has a smarties like candy flavor but much more flavorful. I am trying to work in a sour flavor to make it taste more like the candy shockers. This should be left to steep at least a few days.

EDIT: This flavor is an awesome palette cleanser as well.

I don't have any gummy candy, any idea for what kind of flavor would be best to replace it with? Maybe honeydew?

1 points

by 120z8tabout 11 years ago

Sweet and tart would work, I have never used honey dew so I am unsure about that. Also when in doubt add a cream. It will change the flavor drastically but is almost always sure to be good.

/u/InertiaCreeping, what do you like to do with TFA Guava? I got a dram with the first batch of flavorings I ordered. I haven't experimented with the flavor by itself yet (it's up next), but so far I've made this:

8% Guava

4% Strawberry

4% Mango

After steeping it's definitely good - it's a very sweet juice. I might try some of the CAP Grapefruit I have in it, idk. I like the sweetness of guava, but I feel like it needs something sharper or sour to make it better. Maybe pineapple?

Guava has the same smell that TFA Blackberry does... really sweet, full, juicy. Grapefruit would be awesome to add for a little bit of tartness!

Maybe 8% Guava, 2% Grapefruit, 2% Menthol

I have a bottle of Capella Grapefruit, I'm not a fan of it though... I might need to vape it some more, but idk. I did a mix of 10% grapefruit at 70% VG, it just had a strange taste. It didn't taste like a strong grapefruit, it was more of a subtle flavor. It was tart but not really a good tart... maybe I'll try it in this guava mix, perhaps with Koolada. Thanks!

Edit: I think I'm going to try something like this for the next version of my guava mix:

7% Guava

1% Strawberry

3% Pineapple

3% Mango

Probably just a flavour that needs to be used sparingly, as a mixer, rather than a full-blown component.

You're welcome!

Here's a basic gummy cola I've adapted for FW drops, found on one of those mixing sites. From my experience, the FW gummy flavor is a bit of a coil 'gunker' so to speak, so I can only recommend using this in rebuildables.

My experience mixing 15mL, 0 Nic Max VG yielded a slightly cloudy juice after a hot water bath and 5 hour venting on a heating pad. I don't know how concerned I should be, because it tastes amazing. Any thoughts?

Gummy Cola

* Cola (FW) 5%
* Gummy Bear (FW) 5%
* Sour (FW) 1%

This is a good start, and tastes great (though it is still clouded) fresh out of a hot water bath. Adding a hint of your favorite vanilla and/or cherry can really fill out the spaces, though I haven't yet found the sweet spot.

Holy shit. Steeping does incredible things.

I made this recipe a few days ago:

7% TFA Mango

4% TFA Ripe Banana

2% TFA Vanilla Swirl

1% TFA Coconut Extra

1% TFA Marshmallow

It tasted weird when I first made it, so I threw it in a drawer for a few days. Now... this is amazing. The clove taste from the banana is completely gone, so all I get is fruity-vanilla goodness.

I might still try it with 2% Ripe Banana instead of 4, perhaps a little more coconut, maybe another flavor... but this is damn good.

Apple Pie - Really good! This is V2 and i'm pretty happy with it but there's room for improvement. All flavors TFA

  • 4.5% Green Apple
  • 4% Cheesecake (Graham Crust)
  • 2.5% Bavarian Cream
  • 1.5% Marshmallow
  • 1% Cinnamon Danish

Keeping in line with Guava, I think I finally hit the jackpot. Hands down the best fruit juice I've crafted in my 2 months of DiY (including clones and other folks recipes).

Confessor's Blend

  • 6% Guava (TFA)
  • 3% Juicy Peach (TFA)
  • 3% Nectarine (TFA)
  • 2% Honeydew (TFA)
  • 1% Pineapple (TFA)
  • .5% Coconut Extra (TFA)
  • .5% Lemon Lime (TFA)
  • 1% EM (TFA)

Add Sweet/Sour to taste.

Guava with a hint of pineapple on the inhale with a wonderful peach and nectarine exhale with a Honeydew finish.

It's quite sweet with the 1% EM I added to the initial batch, will likely mix next without EM.

A vigorous shake and good to vape.

I mixed 60/40 with 9.6mg/ml nic. Vaping @ 3.3 on a 1.6 ohm in an Aspire Nautilus tank on my Provari.

Give it a vape. All feedback is welcome/appreciated.

I'm loving that guava/pineapple combination, I agree. I want to mix this up, but I don't have any nectarine or lemon line... I might mix in some CAP juicy peach I have. For the lemon lime... maybe .5% sour instead? Or grapefruit? Something with that slightly sour bite.

Yeah I think those would work fine in here instead. It's just a beautiful tropical sweet/sour with a medium throat hit.

Might want to drop the honeydew down to 1 or 1.5%, it kinda dominates the exhale at the moment.

So my first recipe that's fully my own, tried for a strawberry cheesecake. All FW flavors, cause I'm a cheapass.

Strawberry - 10%
Cheesecake - 2.5%
Graham Cracker - 2.5%
French Vanilla - 1.5%

Tastes okay (read: not like NYC garbage on a summer day), but definitely needs to steep. If anyone has any suggestions on percentages or changes I should make, feel free to call me a hack and let me know what I should have done.

Adapted from On The Rocks

Keep the name the same just adjust the 2% menthol for 1% menthol, 1% koolada.

  • 9% Orange Cream (TFA)
  • 7% Mango (TFA)
  • 2% Pineapple (TFA)
  • 2% Strawberry (TFA)
  • 1% Menthol 1oz/30ml (TFA)
  • 1% Koolada (TFA)

Been a huge hit even among non-menthol vapers. I gave it 4 days to cure but it's decent right out of the gate. This became my ADV on 7/25 and I've since had to mix 8 more bottles for friends/family.

Finally got around to trying a Virgina Tobacco recipe someone here suggested to me awhile back. I substituted the FA Virgina for TFA Virginia. It's pretty tasty right after mixing but waiting to see what it's like after a proper steep. I do max VG at 12% nic.

  • TFA - Virginia Fire Cured Tobacco - 5%

  • TFA - Vanilla Swirl - 3%

  • TFA - Caramel - 3%

  • TFA - Ethyl Maltol - 2%

  • Apple Cider Vinager - 1%

Strawberry Cheesecake

All Flavor West flavors

 12% Strawberry
  4% Cheesecake
  3% French Vanilla
  2% Graham Cracker

Let it steep for a day or two to let the creaminess come out. I'm going to basically completely overhaul this recipe since I just got a TFA order in, and should be able to really improve on it, as FW's strawberry isn't that great IMO.

Strawberry Vanilla Cupcake

  • TFA - Vanilla Cupcake - 8%

  • TFA - Strawberry - 4%

Haven't tried it steeped yet but it's good freshly mixed. Cupcake goodness with subtle hints of strawberry. I was inspired by AiV's Zombie Apocalypse to make this even though I never tried it before. It sounded good but I wasn't going to drop the money on an order of it.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries All TFA flavors

  • 12% Strawberry Ripe
  • 6% Milk Chocolate
  • 1*% Marshmallow

Really simple mix, but taste so good! No steeping required, but I'd guess with steeping the flavors would blend together even more.
