Mind checking if my DIY extraction process is ok?

Is there a reason you're refrigerating them? There's nothing there that will spoil in the heat, so you're probably better off keeping the mixture warm instead of cold.

You also probably want to filter through more than just cotton. Your solutions are still pretty cloudy. Maybe a coffee filter as well to get out the larger particulates.

Why would his filter catch smaller particulates, while passing large ones through? If it's still cloudy wouldn't he need a finer filter and not a coarser one?

Though regardless, an initial filtering through a coffee filter would probably be a good idea.

I suspect he meant the larger of what particulates remain, saying 'larger' to clarify that he doesn't expect every bit of particulate matter to come out.

Thanks for the tip. I recall reading somewhere about keeping it in a cool dark place so I stuck them in the fridge. Will definitely try leaving them in a cupboard next time to see if it makes a difference.

You're right about the mixture being slightly cloudy - I'll get some coffee filter and run the extracts through them in the morning!

I highly recommend filtering through a coffee (or some other paper) filter. I suspect the cotton let a good bit of suspended solids though, which will likely gunk up a coil very quickly and might not be the best idea to vape.

Steps

  1. 1 heaped teaspoon of matcha/coffee in a glass container with 15ml of PG
  2. Cling filmed and allowed to steep in a fridge for 3 days
  3. Filtered through a piece of cotton in a syringe into bottles

Taste Test

Mixed 10ml of each extract at 10% (65PG/35VG)

Definitely tasted like their respective flavours freshly mixed but could be stronger. I'm going to allow these to age for a week or two to see if the taste improves or I may have to mix them at higher percentages. I normally prefer drinking richer high roast coffee but the 'roastiness' of the Vietnamese coffee extract is slightly too much for me and overshadows the flavour a bit - might have to try this again with a medium roast coffee.

Slightly off topic but can any one think of a good milky/creamy base that could recreate something similar to the taste of condensed milk?

Maybe try to make up some milkstone and try it out at like 3%- 4%?

Nice work on the extractions.

Thanks. Good shout on the milkstone! I'll mix some up tonight and give it a try once the coffee extract has aged a bit.

The milkstone is very over powering. I would start @ 1% and go from there.

I've been using 3% Capella's Vanilla Custard v2 with 1% TFA Sweet Cream and 1% TFA Marshmellow with quite pleasing results~
